      I was actually born in Pakistan but moved to America when I was 4. My parents speak Urdu but I was strictly taught English when I came to live in the U.S. This caused an odd affect which allowed me to understand Urdu perfectly, but never be able to speak it. But like you said, this video's helping me return to my roots. To this video, I say, Shukriya!

      @@TheHyperTuber-VantaBlack , Your story sounds like mine!, I came to the UK aged 5 and only went back once for 10 days so I have been in the uk all of my life, like you, I leaned english and this became my first language, amongst friends and siblings, thats all we spoke, only with our parents did we converse in urdu or punjabi and so whilst I can understand urdu ok-ish I am unable to speak with any sort of confidence, I have always felt I have been missing out and need to understand my roots better but to do this I need to be able to understand and speak urdu fluently, these videos help but I don't think they will be enough, if your ever in the UK, come look us up, my family and I will be happy to give you a warm welcome, regards Naim

I can understand perfectly fine, because my parents still speak Urdu with me-its just that i reply back in English, which they can also understand.
    This morning I was talking to my grandma, who does not understand English. So i speak in Urdu with her. And its very obvious my Urdu is not very good, and that i have an accent when i speak the language that is obvious to Pakistani Natives.

So I need to learn urdu to get along with them when go to India, even though my parent and other in-law could speak English. I can easily understand Urdu letter because it's a bit similar with arabic, just Lil bit confusing with the pronunciation and memorize the vocabularies. Bahut shukriya.

    Haha I’m glad she said that about saying thank you, it’s true I’ve been Pakistani my whole life and in my 35 years on this planet not once has any Pakistani uncle or aunty said ‘shukriya’ to me when I do something for them. It just doesn’t seem to be a custom for Pakistanis to say thank you to a fellow Pakistani. Instead they just say ‘acha’, ‘ok’, ‘ha teek’ or even nothing and just shake their head a little or make a respect gesture with their hands and then walk away. Saying thank you is literally a foreign thing

    • @arxsyn
      @arxsyn Před 5 lety +2

      Nate Vic my Pakistani boyfriend told me, l don't need to thank him, only strangers do that, we're not strangers. But now he says thank you a lot, to me and his friends/family. So, Pakistani people would wonder what has happened to him, thanking people all the time. LOL not to mention there are two ways of expressing gratitude in English, thanks for a small, insignificant gesture and thank you for something more significant like a big favor or receiving a gift. My mother tongue is Cantonese, interestingly enough we have this distinction in our language too!
