He taught for many years for Natural Golf Corporation, Single Axis golf, and the Moe Norman Single plane golf swing for Todd Graves and the Graves Golf Academy. He currently teaches his Single Plane Setup 4 Impact swing which has many similarities to all of the above. The big difference is that Kirk fits the swing to each individual golfer.

    I played single-axis golf for many years, after reading the '96 Golf Digest article about Moe Norman. I went through various schools of thought, Jack Kuykendall, Scott Hazeldine, Todd Graves, and then a few years back I found your online instruction. I think yours, and Scott Hazeldine's (how to master the golf swing) are the easiest, quickest to learn. For the past few years I've delved into other non single-axis swing methods, thinking that I was missing out on some speed/power. I have a monthly membership at a local place which has Trackman bays, and I go there almost every day. Long story short, I saw this video pop up in my feed last night and it got me curious to try it again. It was easy to pick up again, and I found that I get just as much swing speed with this as any other, but I hit the ball much straighter, and my average ball speed went up due to making better contact I'm guessing. The other methods I have tried also work, but they brought in too much inconsistency. I should have just stayed with single axis.

      I found that as I got older swinging like Moe got harder so I moved closer to the ball and lowered my hands. My vision and balance deteriorated and finding the sweet spot got harder. I still swing that way sometimes and I have always been amazed at how my body can get it all right one day and then lose it all the next.

    So glad I found you Kirk! You confirm what I've discovered on my own while trying to learn the GGA method for the pasts 5 months. FYI, I tried Natural Golf 20 some years ago and had to deviate from that in order to hit the ball more consistently and farther. I've recently narrowed my stance and moved closer to the ball which has been a big help. And a big shout out to fitting the swing to the individual, not the other way around.

    I am 71 and just returning to play the game. I used Hogan's method in the past, at times with great success. I think the genius of Moe Norman was twofold: 1. He dropped the Vardon grip. 2. He reversed his setup to what he wanted at impact giving him the single plane swing. I can see what you mean with Moe's dip. It seems to be his adjustment which he perfected for himself. I am perhaps in the best shape of my life, working out all winter on my Bowflex. I don't expect to lose distance and gaining accuracy is what it is all about. Perhaps in all of this, I just might also lose some weight. Thanks from Kirk to KIrk. I will keep reviewing your videos. They are a great help. I might even finally buy some good clubs. I believe that it is not the clubs, but the man behind them.

    I began SPS in the 1990’s with Natural Golf. I went because I could and was curious. Tried it unsuccessfully. Went to Graves several times because they made it sound easy. It wasn’t. Copying every move of Moe Norman was a nightmare. I struggled for years. Ran into a few of your videos and it was like a revelation. You showed me why Moe was not for me but why your SPS method was. @@Setup4Impact I have been practicing almost daily from the mat with impact tape and in the yard with the birdie balls. Took the swing to the local Par 3 twice and going again today. My iron striking has improved so much. I always struggled with hitting the ball first but find it a lot easier with the SP swing. When I do make contact is is nice and crisp. Accuracy with my irons has improved dramatically too. Not so much with my hybrids which were my bread and butter, but I am able to strike my long irons again so there is that. Still not taking a full swing either since I tend to come out of form when I do. I'll get there though.
      I don't travel too well so was planning to do the online course. I need to check out some of the indoor ranges near me to see if they give me the room I need to take videos and use my launch monitor too, otherwise I will probably start in the spring when I can get back outdoors. Either way I am committed. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Talk to you soon.

    You set the club with un-cock position to simulate the impact position. However, it gets cocked thru the back swing (for full swing) until the club is horizontal or closer to the ball in the forward swing. It gets un-cocked at impact and thru until it gets cocked again at finish. The reason why I am asking is that with that grip and un-cock hand, it is difficult to cock the wrist in the back swing (for full swing). If it is hip level shots then it is OK. I don’t know if it’s because I used to watch Todd Graves videos, but my grip is so out of control right now and I don’t know why. I grip it very neutral to weak and I hook the ball still. Then I’ll try to grip it even weaker and miss it right. It just feels so out of balance.

    • @Setup4Impact
      @Setup4Impact  Před 3 lety +1

      The problem comes from trying to copy someone else's grip which is the worst thing you can do. You need to find out what is neutral for you. Make the grip stronger and see what happens. You are compensating for too weak of a grip by flipping the club closed which is what I see VERY often from those copying Moe.

    • @OLD-MAN-GOLF-USA
      @OLD-MAN-GOLF-USA Před 3 lety

      You are aligning the clubshaft in a straight line from the clubhead all the way up through the lead arm to the lead shoulder. Therefore if the ball is further from the target than your lead shoulder there will be forward shaft lean. A wedge will have the most lean, a driver will have the least to maybe none, depending on the ball position...still keeping that straight line. A bit to much forward lean is better than too little or none.

      @@OLD-MAN-GOLF-USA thanks so much for the insight. This is something I realized as I was doing shadow swings. My p-wedge had a good amount of shaft lean, whereas the 4 iron not much at all. curious. when you set the club behind (2 inches) the ball, the club face is open to the target (inline with your arm) and will be square at impact. Correct? When I tried single plan swing, I was keeping the face square to the target and the ball was going left.

      Moe had an incredible swing which worked very well for him. Unfortunately it cannot be learned exactly as he did. Proof of this is that in 25 years of trying not one single person has replicated his results. I taught his swing for more than 15 years and while some did improve, nobody came close to what he could do. Until I made adjustments to fit each individual golfer. So using what I learned from Moe along with many other sources I have found the easiest way for people to quickly improve their golf games. Moe was an incredible player up in Canada and is in the hall of fame up there.
