I'd like to know his take on counter steering for the first time. It was hard for me to wrap my brain around when I first did it. This is an awesome mini series btw. Loving it.
Also this series needs to continue until he can quickshift.
Any ccm spitfire test rides in the future ?
Please put zard exhaust on it
Definitely loving the series with Derrick. Enjoying watching his progress. Keep kicking ass D!
Great series guys, great way to break in a new rider. The Enfield actually seems like a pretty good beginner bike. Your dude looks pretty comfortable on it.
The 350 RE single might be "better" beginner at first but the 650 has the long term value for most people.
i found the 650 to be very very forgiving for it's engine size when I was looking, the 350 is really just to fill the cheap commuter gap imo
Man I would really love to see an episode where Derrick actually gets his first motorcycle from a dealer or whatever that would be pretty cool
The more I hear about motorcycle and driving training/testing in the states the more amazed I am that there's not more accidents. You guys hardly have to do anything to gain access to ridiculously powerful machinery
You should probably check the US statistics on that and compare it to other countries. Just going by mortality rate in 2016 the US was 12.4 per 100k but Germany was only 3.7. The rate is insane.
And bikes are twice as hard as cars to get a license for in most cases. That said any dealer will sell you any car or bike without even having a license at all because you don't have to have a license to buy or own so if you drive it without a license, that's on you not them. But yeah you could theoretically go buy a turbo busa or a Bugatti Chiron as soon as you turn 18 or so and without any lessons or license hit the road, and then a tree shortly thereafter.
@@arfreeman11 thats why the US need to have the A2 A1 A license categories
Or just A2, A like Australia and New Zealand
@@R1___ No lmao
Just passed my msf course and got my motorcycle license!! I’m so excited to ride my rebel 250😁
Really enjoy that first ride
I passed mine in September and man.
The exhilarating of that first ride is fantastic.
Also on a ninja 250r so low cc too
@@yuriteixeira5816 definitely man! I’m so excited to ride. Stay safe out there.😌
Always fun to see Derrick improving. Glad he enjoyed it as well, and even rode a bit on the road. When I got out to ride on the road for the first time, I felt so happy and euphoric. It was so relaxing, even though you literally need to be on guard haha.
That lean feeling will definitely hook ya
Love this series. hearing from a brand new rider as a non-rider who wants to get into riding is great. Thanks
Derek absolutely hit the nail on the head, a bike makes simple tasks like running errands and commuting a joy instead of a chore. And the interceptor is absolutely a great beginner bike, the weight makes all of its actions, from acceleration, braking, turning, a little more muted and smooth compared to something smaller and lighter.
Yeah let’s absolutely follow his progress from ms course, license to purchasing his first motorcycle. Yep, Let’s go!
So awesome Derek👏 Bro definitely follow through and buy yourself a bike pronto! He’s good on video with excellent voiceovers as well.
This is a great series to watch. I take my MSF course this Saturday and Sunday and can't wait. That being said I plan on taking my bike out to a parking lot afterwards and work some of the same drills
Yay Derrick! Bro, you been bit by the bug.
I was 24 yrs when I picked up my brand spanking new 76 Triumph Bonneville T140V. Rode across the street to fill up the tank & jumped on the freeway for a 50 mile (locked elbows) ride home.
MSF & Coach Spite didn't exist back then, but I survived.
Loved that bike.
Welcome to the community
really like this video, great intake for all, beginners and reminders for others , that everyone gotts start somewhere. Love that bike btw.
I think making a video on his first bike buying experience could be something interesting. Like documenting a dealer experience or used bike buying experience.
I'm loving this series, looking forward to following more of Derricks progress!
Very much enjoy this series
Yam, the classical background music is glorious. Keep breaking the internet with fire content.
As a guy who just started riding motorcycles this year, 250ccs feel so fast to me😂
Its not just cc but what kind of bike it is, how is the volume acquired, SS or LS , gearing ratios and much more things
Started on a K9 GSXR600, I still don't know how I didn't die.
@@lifeins.a.5168 Similiar start for me, CBR600. Same thought, glad I didn't die. Now much older & wiser, RE Classic 350, lol.
@@lifeins.a.5168 u were stupid to choose the bike but not stupid enough to underestimate it or overestimate your skills
Hence u lived
some of the old 4 cylinder 250cc sport bikes can still go pretty fast tho
Proof that hanging around Yam and Spite is a gateway drug.... to becoming a squid. Seriously though, fun video. Looking forward to Derrick doing the MSF course, getting his license and going for his first run on some twisty roads with you guys. Hope you make videos of those events. This series is shaping up to be some really good content for the new rider to take their first steps. I'm a new-ish rider and you guys were definitely a gateway drug for me. Squid life!
Just finished the MSF course 2 weeks ago and bought a Bonneville T120 Black Gold Line! No regrets!
Nice to see new riders, the more the better
That's a give away bike, man. Don't break it. : ) You did a great job, Derek.
For the rhythm, I'm 2 years into my first bike at 40. And I love my Suzuki Boulevard c50t. Great content bro.
Please 🙏 explain counter steering early to new rider's - it saved my life . Learning to counter steer rather than "lean into a corner" was what saved me drifting towards a kerb on the outside of a corner in my first month's on the road ; thank god I had good instructors who made sure I had "felt" and really understood the concept of it.
Have my class scheduled for the 6th of next month! Excited
I wanna see him on TURBO busa baby next time!!!
This was comedy gold. The intro was like an episode of The Office.
A lot of people have said it but the same, I am loving to see the progression. Also it takes me back to my first days on a bike 33 years ago. The reason you dream of a higher powered bike is to recapture that feeling from that first year, not because you will ever use all of the power. Just knowing you are on something that you could let get deadly out of control is intoxicating, even if you never really get much over the speed limit.
Please keep doing content with Derek! This is amazing stuff watching a new rider!
Nice to see Yammie's noob on Yammie Noob.
Started on a Yamaha V-Star 250 and now have a V-Star 650 because I just love the sound especially with vance/hines pipes.
He did great! I watched so many videos before I rode one in figure-eights in the parking lot.
I'd probably recommend a 350-650cc to start with, and you won't have to buy a 'big' bike.
Cant wait to hear feedback from his experience with the msf course!
Good job Derrick! Keep it up man! Maybe loosen up a bit so your not stiff arming the bars as much.
That bike has a feature that I haven't heard mentioned, that being the slipper clutch. If you bang a hard downshift, the clutch will slip a bit to soften the blow. Very nice if you're also doing a panic swerve.
Quite interested to see Derek’s progression as a rider!
Yeah the fireblade is a good starter bike man. I started on the R1, even though it's a little slow it does get the job done
I watch a lot of this channel, and I watch a lot of the FortNine channel. Yammie Noob it's like watching Saturday morning cartoons, kind of fun. Fortnine is like taking a college course when you want to really learn something. I must admit, I prefer college or cartoons.
Much Needed video
I needed this so much today…I love these videos so much because they keep me excited about getting my first bike.
Salesmen have sucked every ounce of excitement out of my person. I finally passed my MSF and got my permit, so I’m shopping around for something (preferably used) with a smaller displacement around $5000… They always beat up on me so hard for wanting something small…trying to convince me to go bigger. It’s become an awful process :(
recommend 390 for fun torquey get up n go and z400 and ninja 400 for highway and smooth power the Kawasakis have lower seat height which induce confidence if your average height
Ktm duke 390. Or a grom. It just really depends on what you want from the bike
This is exactly how I felt during my first week squidding around in my bike, that was a great time
I am still amazed at how well the RE 650 hits the $$$ vs value equation.
This is great for people like me who haven't ridden since I was a kid on dirtbikes.
I bought the Continental GT650 this year in the month of April on my birthday.
It is my first bike.
And I am watching this video with a big smile on my face and with goosebumps on my body.
Way to go!
Next video = Derek on the turbo busa at Eagles canyon
10,000 k's on my RE Interceptor and love the bike great video guys love the channel
Great seeing new people get the bug.
Derrick looks ready for Wheelies 101.
Going Saturday to pick up my first bike a cbr650r can't wait
That quote "rebel 250 or the fireblade, both are like, identical motorcycles, so..."
I laughed harder than anything on Y.N. so far!
KEEP HIM IN THE VIDEOS
LOVE HIM
That combined with the low key believable delivery of the joke had me rolling too hahaha
I sent my brother this video. I'm slowly converting my family into motorcyclists.
go for it motorcycle riding is lot of fun of you get in too it
Frame by Harris -leaves you great handling bones to start with.
Do a new rider living with vlog when he gets his own bike
Get the rebel 1100. Put it in rain mode the first few months and switch to standard mode once you feel comfortable. That’s exactly what I have done and I have loved it. I spent a good bit of time on a friends 500 before purchasing the 1100. To me the rain mode of the 1100 feels super similar to the 500. So go ahead and get the 1100 from the start so you’re not wanting to get more bike later on. Just what I did and it works for me.
My first bike was the Yamaha virago 535. That thing can do almost 100 with me on it, and it's a pretty sweet semi bulletproof bike. I can't tell you how glad I am I didn't get the rebel 250.
When I'm teaching a new rider, after the basics I always teach them counter steering, cause in my country none of the schools teach it. And I find it very important that a rider knows how it works. That is the reason why you'll see a beginner trying to do a turn and end up too wide, cause if it's a left turn they will try to turn the steering to the left and they will end up fighting with the bike, instead of turning the steering right in a left turn.
Would be awesome first bike. I went with the Triumph Bonneville T100
Derrick is like at this point: Can I apply to the beginner bike giveaway ? Cause that bikes looks exactly like what I am looking for.
He has to part of the channel, like not the star of the show like yam and spite, but like a side character like Whitney or Josh, that do appear from time to time
If it wasn’t for papa yams holding my hand and pushing me towards taking the MSF course, I wouldn’t have the joy of being on 2 wheels right now. Thanks boys!
It took me about a solid month or 2 until I first dumped my starter bike, and I did so in the damn driveway @ 2mph followed by a 2nd dump from not turning the motor off immediately, lol!
Derrick is cool, pls give us more content with him!
Third thumbnail, in going to watch eventually.
My bad didn't realize it was a series
Man im all over the place, haha. I cant decide Ninja 400, Royal Enfield, or KLR650. Such different bikes but I love them all.
For me as a Dutch citizen it’s almost unbelievable to see that in the US it’s accepted to just jump on a motorcycle and join traffic, without almost endlessly learn with an instructor on a reserved parking lot for days in a row and then pass a test for that first.
In The Netherlands you have to pass 8 tests picked out randomnly out of 12 skills we learn:
- fast slalom
- slow slalom (3 mph)
- quick evade
- emergency stop
- comfortable stop
- quick stop
- steering an ‘8’
…
And so on
No wonder I felt comfortable starting out on a 600cc supersport!
Anyway: love to see how you guys roll in the US. Big fan of the channel
same here in singapore! we have all those tests and we have to pass them all on 3 separate occasions before we can even take the official traffic police test. by the time i get out on my own im gonna feel so confident lol cz i already feel comfortable doing almost anything. they even teach you to slide the rear tire!
the whole process takes like 6 months though lol and i wish sometimes it was like the us bc im soooo impatient to get out already!
Hahaha. First time I road a real bike ... 1985, Honda Nighthawk S ... almost dropped it and almost put it in a lake ... headed down a road that ends in a boat ramp. Was a fun night ... at least what I remember.
Put him on the turbo busa!!
Nice back to basics content, that Royal Enfield looks the part, suits Derrick, the British design team really hit on something there I think, its easy to see why 1.4 billion Indians and many others around the world love this thing.
Let’s see what a big guy like Spike looks like on the Interceptor.
I love how you said the rebel 250 or the fireblade. I started on a rebel 250 and after 15 years of riding i daily a fire blade
Get the enfield bro, I had a rebel.... you will out grow it too quick. Get something that you can grow into. That int 650 is perfect. Or grom?
Let’s go you did great 👍 I
He's the next Rosey or Markles. 🤣 Classic.
Derick is ready for the turbo busa…
The roads will be better with more riders and fewer cagers.
Apart from the MSF, it would be interesting to produce an episode documenting the budgeting, criteria and acquisition of your first motorcycle - much more adequate than another beginner bike list.
Cheers
As fuel prices skyrocket you will see that happen, the irony of seeing American roads looking more like Thailand or Vietnam would be sorta funny, 6 lane HWYs lined with the rusting hulks of stupidly large and wasteful pickup trucks will lend a nice Mad Max (Road Warrior) vibe.
When I bought my very first bike (suzuki c50) after the MSF, I had to ride it home on the highway. Although it was only a c50 it felt like I was going 200 mph
For your first bike not sure if you get a chance to ride the royal a little more and if you can and convince yammi to let you ride a sport bike some and make your choice nothing crazy. so no turbo busa
How bout you guys get him his 1st motorcycle? That would be pretty cool.
Yammie have you heard of rust issues with the mt-07 r7 platform like brand new bike rusting after washing them once I really want to get the r7 for the cp2 but i don’t want a bike that’s going to quite literally fall apart
I wonder if the RE 650 cruiser is going to happen soon. That would suit my short legs more
250 might be good for starters however a 650 would definately be more practicle, the enfield suits you... stay upright brother.
Once you get him to figure 8 he'll be ready for the test.
Probably a very good bike size and weight wise to learn on. It's not that much different than the 500 BSA Royal Star I learned on at 16. Really that Royal Enfield 650 is so similar even in looks to that '67 BSA Royal Star.
Literally grabbed my girlfriend to watch as I thought it was going to be instructional. Didn't know I signed up for an 11 minute Royal Enfield commercial...and yes now I really want one...TAKE MY MONEY PAPA YAM!!
Our dear savior Rossey :"D
Turbo BUSA for a starter bike 👍🏻
Maybe he can take a lap on several different bikes to find out what style fits him? Cruiser, sport, scooter, scrambler?
Have yall considered making him ride passenger on something like the pan am, they if he's comfortable, drive it himself?
Super green wow
Good luck deric... idk If riding is for you with how timid you naturally are
1983 Honda 650 Silver Wing. I am 5’2” can only get tip toes down.
Only taken it out twice, and alone since no one to help. I dropped it 3 times, when I was stopped. Help!
Get a Triumph Rocket 3.. Best beginner bike! 😈
Depending on your preferred riding style get a Rebel 500, Ninja 400, or Z400
The way they both laughed when he asked who's gonna pay if he drops it was cringe 😨🤣. Wait, you can downshift without the clutch???🧐
You CAN but the gearbox may not like it for long. 😅
of course, but it’s not the smoothest shift in the world. I always clutch my downshifts and quick shift everything above 2nd gear.
The RE has a slipper clutch
Too many people are going to say (ironically) the turbo hyabusa next for Derrick but that’s ridiculous…
Blatantly needs to ride the triumph speed triple next…
That bike starts at $13000 here in Denmark. Damn u guys have it easier in the States.
Drag dandan the fireman there to coach him on the msf
guys serious question , ok so I have been driving a Yamaha Tmax for 2 years , and Im kinda bored from scooter like motorcycles , I was thinking of buying a ktm 890 duke R , but the question is . am I considered a beginner ?? so I need a smaller bike ? like a 390 ? I mean like Im used to drive a 600 cc bike
Where I am the motorcycle courses take you out on roads and on the last day out on the highway
