Great video. Racing is a hobby and like all hobbies the cost is relative. The reward is great both in the racing and building especially when its a team effort. Merry Christmas and God bless y'all. Keep them coming
Merry Christmas Mark! I completely agree with you
Great vid. Great information. And, of course, thanks for the laughs too (A Flem) Let's go !!
He is hilarious lol
Love the ghia in the background!
Thanks we have 3
thank you. that my baby. Big stroker motor
Good morning Guys. I know its an older video, but this the first time I've seen it. I'm building a "low cost" Cavalier currently. Trust me, building a car from scratch is not "low cost" LOL I bought a 2004 Cav for $600 that had only 52,000 miles on it. I gutted it and purchased, in my opinion, the best kit cage on the market. It's a Dickinson cage kit for $495.00...next was changing fluids(tranny filter/fluid and oil changed), that was another $200. Then it was new struts all the way around for $280. Aluminum rims (used) another $100. Containment seat used was $500. Then there's the misc things like new plugs, fire extinguisher and quick release holder, new belts, kill switch, electrical switches and wire, aluminum sheet to cover holes, steering wheel with a quick release hub, paint and so on. That's an additional Add another $500 or so there. I still need to get new tires...Another $350...whew..LOL I already have a trailer from last years racing though. All total....that's about $3025 so far. Of course then there's fuel for the car and truck and entrance fees. Racing is not cheap, no matter what level you are on. None of the things count towards time either. Time is also money. Time is what one of my sponsors gives me. What I mean is, a machine shop sponsors me and they do all my machining and give me materials for free. I just wanted to add what I (and my sponsors) have spent so far this winter. Thank you for ALL of the great stuff you guys help us small guys out with!! Have a great 2023 racing season!
Yes it can be expensive but sometimes you can make money in certain ways. Good luck in 2023
Racing in its self is never cheap, but i give you guys props on making a budget car. Both of my altima builds 02 sedan and an 08 coupe ran about 5000 each before seeing their first race.
Thanks man. We have been very fortunate to actually make money building ours cars. Such an awesome thing. Racing is too fun to worry about the money though 🤘🏻 we had an Altima that sucked money like crazy
The beauty of Facebook marketplace! Lol. Never would of thought you could come out with $100 like that though. That’s awesome.
Yes sir. Facebook marketplace has been my best friend this year! I was kinda shocked myself when adding it all up
Nice breakdown on everything. I’m itchin’ to get me a car now!
Ross if you get a car we will be the first
Sponsor hands down sir! 🤣
@@flemingfamilyracing hey ya never know!!!!!
I hope so!
I build a sport mod motor off of eBay years ago! Still have the motor to this day. Bought everything but the block off of it.
That’s awesome. Sometimes you can find amazing deals out there
What a good idea. The part where a lot of money is needed
Yes the initial cost!
Racing doesn’t have to break the bank when you do a little planning 😎
That’s right buddy! We have been doing
So much research on these cars this year it’s insane! Hope you are doing good
Awesome job guy's love it!!! I can tell you one thing. I've never made money building a race car lol 😆 😂 😅 But I don't sake parts off them either. Most my cars is getter dine type thing like hornets and bombers. My personal cars are more high end builds as you've seen. I get more car than I not and dumb them down to fit our rules lol . Like the new street is basically a late model dumbed down haha
Yes sir we are excited to see the new build. Hopefully we will see some videos of it soon!
Looking forward to the winter nationals in a few months, Wyatt tells me it’s gonna be cool (I hope I didn’t accidentally leak a big announcement)
No sir you didn’t. Hoping we can make it!
Bought a 1997 dodge neon in 2014 for $400. Put around $5-600 in it to daily drive it. Then gutted it but didn't part anything out. Spent $500 on a cage and safety equipment, won a couple races, then have been racing it a few times a year since 2016. Overall it has 28 races and I've spent around $3,000 to keep it going for the last 7 years. Thats not including sponsorship monies, race winnings, and donations. Definantly time for an upgrade but the car has been a great father/son hobby.
That’s what it’s all about. You can’t beat that for the amount of time you have been running it
500 cavy
1000 cage that installed to
600 Wiring harness
500 full con. Seat
400-800 cams
150 timing chain
200 plus gauges switch’s
300 safety hub Campbells
Tires rims fuel pump filter brakes struts belts and all safety equipment I mean keep going you can have 10k in one just to even be competitive around here
That’s crazy. But we totally believe that! It adds up
Great video. But gosh fwd is a lot more expensive then I thought. It be better to start in sportsman late model. I payed 7,000 for mine and 1,500 for my trailer
I have a civil running and driving I might just try to see if I can build one and make money 😂
Overall it’s a very inexpensive class to run. These certain cars are just pricey for the initial purchase. You can get into FWD racing for little to nothing if you go the cheaper route. But as we know all racing is expensive if your not smart about it.
Yall gotta make a trip to wisconsin! Few rsx race cars but mostly neons down here where i race!
We would love to do more traveling next year. We plan on going to a few new tracks next year for sure!
Plan on traveling next year since i will retire in May. Maybe me and the bank can travel up there
That would be awesome! Hopefully I can go!
I hope u guys can would b sweet! Awesome group of guys to race with as well! Darlington Wisconsin try lookin some vids up on CZcams:)
We sure will! Thanks man!
I’m looking to get into 4 cylinder racing in NYS seen that it’s pretty cheap I’d prolly be able to easily run a $5,000 budget per season don’t even need a top of the line I’ll take the beater that finishes last I’m hoping it all works out cause I wanna race badly I’ve always wanted to
That’s awesome. Yes just go to
Your local track and as a few FWD guys they can get you in one quick
If you lived in nh I have a car that only needs a cage and is ready to go
Easy on the dodge neons Austin. We have some neons and even a pt cruiser that your car won't run with. We've got way more in them though 😆
We have seen some bad to the bone ones but just not down here. We use to race one in fact. It was fun
@@flemingfamilyracing I get it just messing with Austin. Are you guys going to try to get in on the race at The Freedom Factory in February? It'd be great exposure for your channel for sure.
We would love to make it down there. Looks like it’s going to be fun but I think
we have made the decision to stay on dirt with the FWD!
Can you put any engine in the car or do you have to use Oem stock engine to that car?
OEM stock engine
I am a big toyota fan never been a fan of the fwd celica but how do they do in this race
Not quite sure. I’ve only seen one since I’ve been racing and it didn’t do to well
I know someone who.had a fast one on dirt if they setup they fly
I fount a 100$ 4 door Saturn that should run I don’t know yet so it should get me started racing
Yes sir that would be a perfect starter car for you!
Saturn's get done depends which one
@@youknoweverything7643 SL1 I think a old car
Anything is better than nothing
@@flemingfamilyracing yes very true and my uncle the driver of the k20 is going to help me build it I get to swap the transmission this weekend by my self so I am pumped and he is just going to give me tips so I learn
My speedway doesn’t have payouts for this division cause it’s a “development” series just a way to keep the poor, poor and out of the street stocks
Man that stinks. This is an up and coming class down here
@@flemingfamilyracing I live in a wealthier area so there really is no “up and coming” more like “my daddy bought me the best car”
Man that’s horrible when people are like that
@@flemingfamilyracing It is what it is just glad to see guys like me and you succeed
Does the car have to be straight drive to compete? Or can it be a automatic
Can be either
Cost of trailer? How do y’all suggest we start transporting?
If you are racing FWD we use several different ways. We have our enclosed trailer, we have a car trailer or we even use a dolly. Depending on how far you have to go will determine best choice. Our dolly is used it we go long distance to help with gas but also can be a bad choice if something major happens and you can’t pull it home on the back wheels
@@flemingfamilyracing thanks! Storage is also a cost. Where are you keeping it? Mines in a storage unit because apartment life.
@@Artynos_YT we don’t have that issue we have 40 acres so can’t help you with that unless you find a friend at the track that will let you store it
@@flemingfamilyracing exactly. Storage is a cost for people not in privilege
Also, if you’re going to store your car, make sure it has a title and insurance coverage. They ask for that.
I wear my hey dudes to race in lol
That’s funny. We don’t advise it but that’s up to you lol
@@flemingfamilyracing yea not smart at all lol........... Am getting new suit and shoes for Christmas this year tho so won't anymore lol
But if hey dude puts out a racing shoe I will have them lol
Very smart decision!
How much to build a engine??
These engines in these cars are stock but the SCDRA guys have a lot in theirs
@flemingfamilyracing5752 like to build a dunebuggy and put a 4 cylinder or a ecotech motor in one
Sorry I’m so late but I’m really surprised about price of the car
We all were surprised. Very blessed by how well the part out turn out!
i put a car together together for 400 bucks once haha
That’s awesome. We know it can be done
A $100 race suit is crap as is a $100 helmet.
We agree. We have brand new suits and helmets
All ya need to win in this class is the most money. Full blown racing engine with vvt, vtec, you’ll half track the rest. Make all the cars equal. Then see how many of these boys with those racing engines hold up. No vvt, no vtec, no racing engines. Also, all tracks need to USE THEIR SCALES. I’ve seen several people run 250+ hp cars, with a weight rule of 2200 lbs, running 300-400 lbs light and track never weighed them. The cheating will kill this class.
We agree cheating will kill a class. But the most money won’t always win. We have proven that with our cars.
Driving has a lot to do with winning in this class
@@flemingfamilyracing must be different where you’re from. Around here, the most money always wins. Basically no tech, most tracks don’t even weigh the cars.
No we definitely are different down here
@@flemingfamilyracing Glad to hear it, best of luck to y’all! My cousin has been in a cavalier for 3 seasons, followed all rules, just to be beat almost every weekend by Hondas with fully built racing engines with 270hp+. I’m talking $10k under the hood. Just not fun if it’s a spending contest, and the tracks don’t make it fair.
@@mrpotato_d3ad663 thanks man. Yeah that’s not fun at all. What track y’all
At?
Can you add a turbo to it and race ?
No we have to stay stock in this class
dude that cage is scary looking.
This is Dickinson cage. Brand new. What’s scary about it
@@flemingfamilyracing there's nothing to it.....barely any cords bars especially on the passenger side...... My cage cost 1100 bucks
@jaimesonritter3375 we didn’t add all of the extra bars to this one. These are professional built cages. It’s solid
