  • What can we learn from one of the worst novels written by one of the best writers to ever live? In short, everything.
Yukio Mishima is an absolute master of craft, and his short absurdist novel "Life for Sale" was one of my more enjoyable reads of the summer.

I've just recently finished Life for Sale as my first book from him. I came in expecting something really different from what I've just read, and I've enjoyed it a lot. Throughout the book I started to grew fascinated by his writing style and how much he wanted to get his point across. I thought that this book was acclaimed when I first picked it up and, even if it not and will never be, I though of it as a really good introduction to who Yukio Mishima is and how he brings to the reader some harsh internal debates about mortality and morality while delving into eroticism and many taboos fom Japan at that time.
Loved your video! You did a great job summarizing the book in a cohesive way. I'll be waiting for next uploads, even if it's related to books or not. Wish you the best!

Thank you so much for the kind words! I think that if this novel was written by anyone other than Mishima it wouldn't be nearly as heavily criticized, but because he has the reputation of being one of Japan's greatest ever, he gets judged the harshest.
Either way, I really enjoyed the book as well and will 100% be doing more Mishima books on the channel at some point.
