Always the best books on this channel. I just purchased Too Loud A Solitude 😘
Did you really?? Wow, that’s amazing then. I actually made you buy the book… yaaayyy!!! It’s a must-read, really.
Update - I loved too loud a solitude. Getting to boredom and the sea, the sea next
We have very similar reading tastes. 💕
I am so glad that someone made a review on Life for Sale. This is an unusual book for Mishima, because it is written very simply. Given Mishima's ultra-right nationalist views, I am sure that in this book he wanted to show how American culture is trying to replace Japanese culture (for this reason, so many characters resemble a parody of comics or noir movies, and many problems are literally the fault of Americans).
What an excellent video! I always want to read everything your channel recommends- your explanations and descriptions are informative and insightful. I am so glad you mentioned Sputnik Sweetheart; it's an underrated Murakami for sure but it might be my favorite one by him thus far. Fairly short but still poignant and devastating- emotions that he does best. Did you know he's publishing a new book this April?? I will be eagerly awaiting the English translation :) thank you for all the work you put into these videos!
Thank you so much 🤓
So happy to know that you like our recommendations, really.
And I had no idea about Murakami, although my sister told me just recently that he published a new book. There’s another one coming out? I had no idea! You somehow want him to keep writing, to never stop.
@@ReadADayClub Ah yes, I think his "Novelist as a Vocation" just came out in English late last year, but it's a memoir told through a collection of essays , whereas the book coming out in April (in Japanese at least) is his next novel! They haven't released any details on the title or plot at all though =/ This man just can't stop, won't stop haha, but I don't believe he has published a novel since "Killing Commendatore" in 2017, just some short story collections and most recently that new memoir.
I have been curious to check out Mishima for a couple of years now, maybe this will finally be the year, and if so I might go with Life for Sale :D thank you for the recommendation and the backstory!
9:38 - the word "sputnik" is pronounced "sp-oo-tnik" (U like U in mUrakami) because it is russian word (спутник)
Amazing book recommendations! Mishima & dazai (their honesty especially) have always captured a special place in my heart. the movie about Mishima looks interesting, will check it out! I have been reading Saramago's "Blindness" which helped me get out of the slug. It is very psychological, witty, funny, and kafkaesque at times. Waiting for your videos on his books. :)
Thanks a lot 😊🌻🤓
Haven’t read Blindness yet, but I’ll check it out since you used psychological, witty, funny, and kafkaesque all in the same sentence. Haha. So curious!
@@ReadADayClub Just my sincere attempt at making it sound kafkaesque, lol!
Thank you for the great video. I really do like how you often feature non-western writers. There are so many authors not from England or America who don't get enough attention. And from your reviews I'll be ordering "The Sea, The Sea" and "A Too Loud A Solitude". Murakami gets everybody out of a reading slump. Personally I like "Kafka On the Shore" and "Sputnik Sweetheart" often gets overlooked as does "A Wild Sheep Chase". I've just finished reading "Falling Man" by Don DeLillo, often regarded as one of America's finest living writers. This book was far from his best.
Hi Barry, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. :)
I recently spotted Don DeLillo's book or books (don't remember exactly) at a bookstore, and now that you've mentioned him, I'm gonna add Falling Man to my TBR list. Thanks for the recommendation!
Cold coffee, Croissant, and Stoner. Couldnt get better, Amo.
The Shell: Memoir Of a Hidden Observer by Mostafa Khalifa.
This is my favourite novel of all times, and am sure you would love it. Read it, i want to see you review it. Good luck.
You girls should do like a Q&A video or one of those tag videos to let us know a bit more about you.
That's actually the next video we're planning on doing, but it's going to be in a podcast format where we're answering some personal and some book-related questions that some people dropped in our DMs on Instagram.
@@ReadADayClub Looking forward to it!
You mentioned Charles Bukowski that he's writing is commendable, in a certain way I'll agree too because i did experience his way of attracting his readers, but one thing i do not appreciate is, the way he talks about women, and his attitude towards them. What is a the backstory to understand that which is frequently mentioned in his books?
could you make a video about windup bird chronicle by haruki murakami
I was thinking of re-reading it anyway, so yes I’ll make a separate video on that 😀😀😀
You are a gem
I'm really glad to listen u...and I suggest you to summarize long novels like brother Karamazov and Leo Tolstoy and Arthur Schopenhauer books too..and Frederick nitezche Books too..I will be thankful to you
