Long before they decided to collaborate and write together, Kristin Mooney & Willie Wisely were friends and singer/songwriters both performing and recording in and around Minneapolis. Working together happened naturally, if only because Willie's wife, one of Kristin's closest friends, suggested they sing together. No one remembers exactly. But from song #1, the music came easily and seemed to be sourced from whatever was making the two laugh on the days they met; be it in Willie's nestled Laurel Canyon studio, in Kristin's East LA home with the breathtaking vista or more recently in Willie's sunken 1970's living room out near Stillwater - Minnesota's historic former state capital.
Willie: "Kristin brings out the poetry in our lyrics. It's not about literal meaning. Everything is implied."
Kristin: "Willie brings a musical playfulness that's liberating."
Willie: "We work together in a forgiving way and don't get too attached to ideas, keeping the music loose and flowing. We actually do say to each other 'no' a lot, which isn't what you're supposed to do when creating, but it works for us."
Kristin: "When we get creatively stuck, we don't push too hard. We just keep gently poking around at it."
Willie: "As friends there's a dozen other things we can (and often) do besides write: cook, scream about politics, rearrange furniture, repaint a wall."
Kristin: "Or drink potato vodka. That keeps the music plenty fresh."
