George Harrison was a true genius as a song writer. Here are just a few of his creations.
    1. Something
    2. Here Comes the Sun
    3. All Those Years Ago
    4. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
    5. Give Me Love (Give Me Peace)
    6. Taxman
    7. If I Needed Someone
    8. What is Life
    9. Blue Jay Way
    10. It's All Too Much
Yeah!! He was talented songwriter. Sinatra was correct in his observation of Harrison's composition of "Something". It may be the greatest love song of the century.

He wrote some great songs, that's for sure. "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is in my personal top 5 Beatles songs. "Something" is in my top 20. But yeah, I agree, John and Paul were a tough bar to clear to call him "the best" and the problem is not with the quality of his songs (they are all great, if you ask me), but with quantity. For each of his awesome songs you have a couple dozen amazing songs written by either Paul or John, so it's kinda an unfair comparison.

My mother's and mine too. We play different instruments but love harmony and melody. I can only go as low as a high alto range tops. She might be able to hit lower. Those who exercise their soft palate regularly are less likely to snore. She has so many talents I wish I had a fraction of. When I lose her, may I see her "in my dreams" playing with George. May it give her love and peace having jam sessions that will let her see herself as I have incredibly talented and a brilliant composer and teacher in her own right. She was very particular about which artist out of each band she liked and even the instruments. May she find her mother in law and mom playing music to guide her way to find the "sun, [and show her] it's alright..." I find that so many still don't know the extent of his music and writing and even comedy with several bands, as an individual artist, in collaboration with others, and what role he played in Monty Python humor and music...the loss that creates the sound of silence that renders you stuck in time. If only certain greats could be in a time capsule as opposed to politicians, criminals, capitalists, and the vicious hearted and minded. "If I fell in love with you..." Blackbird was the 2nd song I learned how to play on one instrument though the version was by a different artist it lead me back to a library where things are free including sheet music books. The great works of the Beatles. I didn't always choose easy songs to try and learn but music theory would have destroyed my enjoyment of the one instrument the other I only played when I was young though not hard to learn you do need air which at the time of renting it, it was impossible to get. Moody's inspired me to play that one.

I happen to know someone (vaguely) who is very closely involved with Paul; he's recorded 3 albums with him. I'm very much looking forward to asking him for his opinion, once I've investigated it all a bit more. The scope of that theory / story, and all the ripples outward, is MASSIVE. No, im just going by what BB and Buddy said about EC.
Both said he was on another level then his hereos. EC to the blues that the phenomenal founder's created and brought to a world wide audience, at a level of musicianship that was on another level.
I think BB and Buddys opinions are a little more relevant and knowledgeable then yours.
I just have to listen and see to know that EC surpassed the greats.
I watch the amazing Freddie King, and then watch EC version's of his songs Torn down, Have you ever loved a woman, and others and realize that Clapton's playing and vocals are the gold standard!
Just watch his From the cradle shows and the Martin Scorsese documentary nothing but the blues featuring EC. It is the finest display of blues playing and vocals ever laid down.

Add George Martin to that list too. I think by the time they got to Let It Be (early '69), they all knew George was an incredibly competent songwriter. Unfortunately, George was not always given the encouragement by the others (aside from Ringo perhaps) that they should have. The entire group knew Something and Here Comes The Sun were fine and worthy compositions.

It’s one of the big blessings of the peoples but also a curse, having 4 guys who in their own rights were extremely talented , had the charisma, looks and songwriting ability to all be successful by themselves or frontmans in other bands all living together for years, growing up together and their egos being in conflict. But the problem for George was one, his personality, he was more of a people pleaser, and more of the type of guy who being the youngest and the quiet one coming into the group dominated by two of the best singers and songwriters of an entire generation and so I think for years he didn’t mind and while he was crucial, had really good back up medlodies and guitar riffs and I think made his contributions whether they credited him with it or not he wasn’t a songwriter at first but once he became a better songwriter, one that honestly was even on par with Lennon and McCartney, and once he grew out of this being the quiet people pleasing kid who just wanted everyone else to be pleased with him I think he probably got much harder to sit back and accept that not only were his songs not being taken seriously for how truly great they were, Paul specifically at the end was very nit picky with George and thought George should play his songs the way he directed him too exactly and George who was growing into a very good talented lead guitarist who was getting all sorts of inspiration from eastern music and had his own ideas and stuff not only was having super top hit songs put on the back burner but was being told how to do his job as guitarist a lot at a point I think with all of them there was just a lot of tension and a lot of them being just tired of each other and they’d outgrown each other and needed to move on from that saga. I honestly think as great as Paul and John as songwriters were and as funny and likeable as ringo was that George was by far IMO the best beatle if that sort of thing could even be measured outside of pure personal preference

Bruce Powell looking back, WOW, we had no idea what we had. Being a Baby Boomer is great. CZcams its like being in the 60s/70s. Hope they invent a time machine soon, I'd go back to 1976. I was a Sergent in the Marine Corps, no bills, no worries, just take care of myself and the Marines in my Squad. Peace.....Semper Fi

I actually took a class called "History of the Beatles" in which we would learn their history and listen to their albums in order. I told myself after the white album that I don't think they can ever make something so great again, especially since they were falling apart at the time. Then I listened to this song.... George Harrison is definitely equal if not better than Lennon-McCartney's song writing abilities. It was truly a great experience learning about them and watching them grow as just boys into these musical geniuses. George Harrison is truly my favorite Beatle. Lennon and McCartney had each other when they wrote but George was independent and still created master pieces like Blue Jay Way and She Said She Said. I hope you're resting in the heavens where you belong George and smile as you watch new lovers of your music grow.

I think George was the Beatles ace in the hole.He contributed so much beautiful guitar playing, put the Beatles in a different class altogether. Then add the fantastic harmony singing he came up with that's why the Beatles were the best.I think if you watched the sessions for Abbey road, you will see that John and Paul, both give George help with some of the words for Something. The BEATLES worked very well in the studio

I agree that George was an ace in the hole as was Ringo. That's why they're the "Fab Four" they all brought something to the plate. Take away anyone of them and you have an average band.

Kiks in relation to your comment: I told myself after the white album that I don't think they can ever make something so great again. You have to analyse the following songs: Ohh Darling, Hey Buldog, Don't let me down, the majestic Here comes the sun, Let it be, Come together, and in Mexico we called some like Assembly 1 and 2 to those little songs from Abbey road, which I think they were mixed as a symphony (several magnificent movements), to understand that they continued their way to make inspirational music, and then it was their individual period which gave us to many great songs.

George is also my personal favorite :) I think although his songs contributed to the Beatles were amazing (especially "Something" & "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
But I must correct you - "She said She said" is John's

01:01 and 01:28 my fav shots of George. If I could model myself and/or be any guitarist, it would be George Harrison.
Without all the high expectations of the "heavy" guitarists, I just love his humble, unassuming nature.
