Great video and very informative. One question I have is about the solar electric fence. I may have just missed it, but does the solar battery last during the night and on cloudy days? Also what brand and set up from the solar panel?
Hi, Joseph. Yes, the battery can persist through night and cloudy days if charged and positioned correctly. We use mostly stafix chargers, but have experimented with a few others as well. We also like Gallagher.

Thanks for doing these videos. Looking at starting a farm with pigs, sheep, and poultry next year and these are invaluable, especially appreciate all the specifics (brands, sizes, where to buy, etc). I just wanted to clarify how much land you are using. I believe you said you are running 100 pigs on 15 acres, 4 times a year, is that correct? Trying to understand how they don't overlap and how much time elapses before a paddock has pigs on it again (what interval of rest between paddock usage). Thank you.

Holy cow you just made movie night for the kids and I. We raise pigs and even have a few pig videos on CZcams...how do you find producers selling in such large batches? Do they come from auctions?
Please enjoy more of our videos as apart of your movie nights. So glad the whole was able to enjoy it. We work with a farrowing farm out of Missouri that is able to accommodate us with large batches of 100 pigs.

How many days would you wait to graze another animal (sheep for example) behind your pigs? I've seen from Joe Salitan that he waits 3 days between cows and chickens.

At what low temperature do you have to put a heat lamp on them if at all
Good question. To date we have not had to put heat lamps on them. However, if we were expecting to have single digit temps for a few days then we would set some up.
How could you get started with a large buyer so when you get 100 pigs ready you can sell them and start over
That's a great question! We're members of Grass Roots Farmers' Cooperative, which means our finished livestock has a guaranteed market through the cooperative's e-commerce site.
If you can find and join a local farmers' co-op, your fellow farmers may help you locate a market for selling livestock in bulk.
I think up to 2 lbs a day of weight gain is amazing. As much as I love beef, producers need to feed two cows for each one that goes to market. I don't know how much less feed a mature cow needs per day compared to young ones gaining weight, but doing the math pork is a much more efficient form of protein.

Hi, Darrel. We sell directly to Grassroots Farmers' Cooperative here in Arkansas, and we are paid on hanging weight.
Im a bit confused with the amount of feed per pig 700 to 800 LB ?? at 100 pigs that is over 30 tons of feed. Is that in any way financially faceable? or your buying at a very very low cost. Please more info ?

My biggest worry is people backing out on buying the hog for that slaughter date
Securing market opportunities is a big part of this process for sure! But if you are delivering a quality product and there is demand in your area, then that buyer is missing out and someone else will get it instead!
You could take a deposit. Like perhaps around 30-40% of the estimated total price that aren't paid back if the customer pulls out. The difference is paid at delivery.
I know people don't want antibiotics full time to increase weight but would you allow a pig suffer and die rather no antibiotics temporarily? So to get into pig raising, the most important thing is to 1st find a place to butcher them before even buying your farm.
Hi @safffff1000 that is a good point on the antibiotics. We will attempt to treat a sick pig using non antibiotic methods. If we find that those methods are not working them we do have antibiotics on hand and will treat that pig. If we do have to treat with antibiotics then that pig will be marked with an ear tag and sold to a different market once it is recovered and healthy.
Yes- one of the most important things before getting animals is to know that you have a place to get them processed and that they will have an appointment to get your animals in.
