Thank you for the video
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Nice pig farm
This where a herding dog comes in handy
We tend not to use herding dogs (just livestock guardian dogs) and our operation works well, but every once in a while, it would be nice!
Nice vedio

Hello animal lovers ,Am Paul from Uganda i love farming and I do alittle with a bigger hope to expand
Hi, Paul! Welcome.
I’m a small grower….not nearly this scale….but this is a great video!
We're glad you found value in the video! The regenerative principles we use can be applied at any scale. We hope this video helps!
We have done pigs for the last two years & don’t think we will ever do them again they were always so hard to get in the trailer and never had no friendly pigs! 😭
Sorry to hear about your negative experiences! They can certainly be a hassle sometimes, but we love our pigs!
@@HeiferUSA they best thing was is how they till up your yard we need that for sure maybe in a couple years we will do it again but not for awhile!
Chard TV Livestock Farming.. Watching
I like video 감사합니다.
Thank yoU!
Great!
Thanks for watching!
Great video! Thanks for sharing. Interested in how much grain they eat? How often do you top up the feeders?
Hi Samuel, we fill the feeders typically twice a week. It depends on the age of the pigs though. We currently estimate each pig consumes about 750lbs of grain during its life on the Ranch, but we are currently upgrading our process to measure this to get a more accurate result.
Great video! At what age and weight do you receive the piglets and what age and weight do you move them to pasture?
Perfect! We're in the process of getting our land and house built then it's time to farm! Thanks for all the information and keep it up!
Glad you enjoyed it! More great pig, cattle, sheep, chicken, etc. videos coming soon!
How do you go about disinfecting the barn? very Interesting.
Great
Thanks!
Very nice video, I don't know if I missed it but how many 'paddocks' do you have per group? As in If the pigs stay in one place for 7 days, how many days until they(or other pigs) get back on it?
50 pigs per 1/2 acre, rotate once a week, and depending on the weather..we might move them faster (like every 4 to 5 days if it is raining a lot), each paddock needs to rest a minimum of 60 days according to the standards we adhere to, but this is depending on the season. In the winter time you might go a little longer, in the spring a little shorter when things are growing fast. We try to use the same paddock not more than 2 to 3 times a year. Hope this helps! We are, of course, constantly evaluating and chaning things! Email us at heiferusa@heifer.org if you need more questions answered like this!
How do you get them back to the first paddock ?
may i snippet this video for learning videos at my school..?
Sure, feel free to share and give credit. Thanks for watching!
👍👍
Thanks!
Christine, can I get a Wooooooo Piiiiig sooooooie?!
We totally missed out on that opportunity!!!
Where are you located? Love to visit and learn nice job
Heifer Ranch is located in Perryville, Arkansas (USA). Please visit heifer.org for information on careers!
I was always da trouble maker...
Haha, you and our escapee pig have a lot in common!
Hi, what's the age of pig initial brought in?
We receive feeder pigs when they're about 2 months old. Then, they'll grow on pasture for 4 to 5 months before processing.
I wonder if the utilization of herding dogs would help with the herding of pigs?
Possibly!
How long does it take for those pastured pigs to reach market weight ?
Thanks for asking! We receive piglets when they're about 2 months old, and they spend an additional 4-5 months here on the ranch. When they leave for processing, they're about 7 months old.
@@HeiferUSA thanks love your channel. Waiting for more content. Cheers!
Please I need help for the types of grass seeds I can buy for chickens sheep goats and cows for all seasons like dry and raining seasons in Cameroon
Hi Edwin! We are not familiar with your local ecosystem. Try contacting extension services in your area perhaps.
Where do you go about buying100 pigs at a time?
we've used a few different suppliers over the years.
Where do we buy the pig feed advertised here? The website doesn't list it for purchase.
we don't control which ads you see, so we aren't sure what is being referenced.
@@HeiferUSA sorry not an advertisement, it's just what you have in your video that you feed them. The swine #1 by the Farmers coop, is that for sale somewhere?
Do you sell the feed? Grass Roots Swine Grower #1
How many acres is a paddock?
A paddock by definition is not a set amount of acreage, rather it is an enclosure to keep livestock in. It can be any size. For our pigs, as mentioned in the video, we use a spacing standard of 50 pigs per half acre.
@@HeiferUSA thanks a million. That's exactly the information I was looking for.
Great video. So much good information.
Thanks, Alex!
Can i apply as attendant at your farm..

Humanly raising pigs. Keep up
You Bet!
Can we use temple grandin system on piggy farm?
Absolutely, and we do! We are working on a low-stress Animal Handling techniques video(s) right now, actually! Subscribe to be notified when it releases :)
How do you keep predators from killing your pigs
Fortunately, we don't have any natural predators in our area that are large enough to harm the pigs. They are pretty big animals themselves and can defend well.
How do you butcher them?
Cypress Valley Processing in Pottsville, AR
@@HeiferUSA thanx
Any particular reason you don't use herding dogs?
Not really. Our system works for us as is. We always say, do whatever works best for you and your farm!
Bacon Express
Haha, sounds like our pig trailer has a new name!
I'm torn regarding allowing volunteers to work here. On one hand people should be free to choose to volunteer wherever they want and this type of work is rewarding in and of itself. On the other this is a commercial for profit operation with a legal and moral obligation to remunerate all workers fairly. Thoughts?
Love to see women work the ranch… hopefully your husband has ur meal already made when u get home and the hse cleaned…RIIIGGGHHT🤪
Thanks for watching!
no herding dogs??
We have yet to try that out!
@@HeiferUSA If it's feasible, try it out. Great content, I'm just learning from every farm that's all. 🗣HAT'S OFF🦾🦾!!
Wonderful for any wild predator to have so much meat on the doorstep...
Our electric wire works very well to keep predators from threatening our pigs. We raise all our livestock on pasture, and rarely have issues with predators.
