A look around Caernarfon Wales including a walk around the Castle and Town Walls, and Castle Ditch, Castle Square and Castle Hill to name just a few of the places we see!
We begin this 4K Virtual Walk round Caernarfon Wales on Aber Foreshore Road looking across the Afon Seiont river that flows out to the Menai Strait
To cross we go across Pont Yr Aber bridge over to the stunning Caernarfon Castle where we can see just how majestic this historic building is, and the sheer size of the castle walls!
There's so much history to Caernarfon Castle Wales that it would be impossible to list it all in this description so please do as I did and search Wikipedia for Caernarfon Castle History and have a read - it really is fascinating and there has been so much happen here it's a must read!
Caernarfon is a royal town, community, and port in Wales, with a population of 9,852. It lies along the A487 road, on the eastern shore of the Menai Strait, opposite the Isle of Anglesey. The city of Bangor is 8.6 miles to the north-east, while Snowdonia fringes Caernarfon to the east and south-east.
Caernarfon is home to Wales’ most famous castle and an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mighty Caernarfon Castle commands the lion’s share of attention, but the town’s narrow streets and stylishly redeveloped waterfront also merit a visit. The castle, built in the 13th century by Edward I as a royal palace and military fortress, was at the core of a medieval walled town.
Caernarfon was formerly spelt Caernarvon in English, but today the Welsh spelling is universal. “Caer” usually denotes a fortress that pre-dated the stone castles built by the Welsh and Normans. ... The “n” in the middle of Caernarfon is a truncation of “yn”, meaning in. So the name translates as Fortress in Arfon.
Caernarfon is famous for its breathtaking castle and as a stronghold of the Welsh language. The castle and fortified complex is recognised on UNESCO's World Heritage List as one of the finest examples of late 13th century and early 14th century military architecture in Europe.
Although the castle is arguably Caernarfon's biggest attractor of tourists, it is not the only thing in the town worth visiting. It is a bustling market town with a busy port, as well as magnificent views over the Menai Strait, the channel that separates Anglesey from mainland Wales.
It may help you to pronounce names if you remember that the emphasis in Welsh is usually on the penultimate syllable. For example, Caernarfon (kyre-nar-von), Beddgelert (beth-gel-airt), Llanberis (thlan-ber-ris), Felindre (veh-lin-dray). C - pronounced as a K, as in English 'kick' eg: Caernarfon (kyre-nar-von).

Welsh is the main language, and the Food in the Black Boy takes some beating. Scoops makes some excellent pancakes. As you walked up Castle Ditch, the building to your left with the great big stone pillars were once the Crown court building and jail.

When I was a teenager my father bought a boat from a guy who ran a fish and chip shop in nearby Waunfawr, We moored it in the harbour in front of the castle and over time came to know every boat name and many of the owners. When exiting on a transatlantic voyage somewhere, we had to toot the horn with one long blast followed by two short ones so that the bridge operator would come out of the little house (shown at the start) and open the swing bridge. The balcony you refer to at 13:54 - I have a picture of Charles and Diana standing there waving at the crowds on the occasion of his first visit to Wales with his [new] wife. She was wearing red on that day too! She was beautiful.

@@GimbalWalkTV yes, was there from 2004 till 2012. Lots of history in Caernarfon with the prison & other places, even seen the Queen & Prince Philip come to the castle, also used to watch Remembrance Day parade & listen to the service by the Cenotaph you shown. Loving your videos, seeing a few places been & some not (so it's like being there in a way).

Walk around the castle?, you were in the castle more than once, you just did not enter the garrison.
