The Bullet Hell With Absolutely FLAWLESS Game Design

- In today's episode I talk about my favorite Bullet Hell game of all time, Ikaruga and how it makes me feel a "certain" way. Ikaruga's design is essentially flawless with every piece of it working to be a perfectly balanced, hard as nails shoot 'em up. Very few games can truly be called perfect, but because Ikaruga is such a short experience it manages to use it's short run time to make each facet of it's design as perfect as possible.

@@SlightlyInDepthGaming I was looking into making a bullet hell game and ran into the same issue. I wonder if the genre has either been stagnant or underground for too long in the US? Like, maybe the lack of design info comes from a lack of innovation

i'm sorry for i may not be able to summarise my thoughts in a short and readable comment, because i am not sure about what to say and i am not an english native speaker.
1st: i reeeeeally like the titles you show and talk about (i play smash, want to play omori, and i'm still trying to finish ikaruga etc.)
2nd: nice scripts (the best i can describe it is that you talk about things that i thought about but have not delved deeper into or shared with friends)
3rd: the mastery topic you often put in your videos is very relatable.
4th but it's the 2nd part two: this kind of videos are a way to understand our gamer-selves, so it's nice stuff.
i'm tempted to say that your channel is for me.
P.S.
there aren't enough videos that make ikaruga justice so super extra bonus golden points that can change polarity and have a timer.

tbh right from the get got I know you don't know shmups all that well. Ikaruga is anything but "standard bullet hell". It barely qualifies for what the broadest definition of bullet hell is. Its polarity mechanic is like nothing else in the genre and shapes the gameplay to such extend that it plays like no other shmup. And it's not only that. The level design differs from shmups and especially bullet hell games A LOT. It focuses on set pieces, it is way more tight and does allow way less freedom of movement, espeicially when you start score chasing. Calling it "standard bullet hell" is like calling SUPERHOT a standard FPS.
