The presenter really has in depth knowledge of JMeter and this comparison is spot on in regards to JMeter weaknesses. I like using JMeter and have overcome most of it's limitations for the load testing I do but what intrigues me the most is no longer having to worry about java memory management. I will take a deep look at k6 and and see how it goes for my projects and consider converting.

This is the kind of video you need to move people to k6 from jMeter, great job.

Back in 95 when Microsoft was releasing Windows95 and treating it as though the world of computing would bow at their feet until the end of time, one of the best critiques of Apple was not that they already had most of the features that win95 had, it was that mac 95 wasn't much better than mac85, figuratively of course. The same for jmeter. 20 years of jmeter dev and it still has obtuse ways of doing things. Its user model, UI, etc are still early 2000 level concepts. Most of the time I can get it to do what I want but the hoops you need to jump through for some things are absolutely ridiculous. I'm pretty new to k6 but its looking pretty good so far. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses but I think jmeter is going to end up being left behind eventually because they are stuck with a mindset that doesn't see the writing on the wall. Don't get me wrong, it is a good tool, but they are handing market/mindshare to other tools because of their lack of flexibility.

Hi Nick - good analogy. I agree; I still think JMeter has its place, but I'm definitely seeing its age more and more. I think at this point, familiarity with JMeter would be MY primary reason to use it-- not its functionality or ease of use. Which is a problem. - Nicole

K6.io handles all these efficiently with 3rd party it easily integrates with.
