GTRE is looking for volunteer Pilots to test Kaveri engines in single engine Tejas to get $1B more for Kaveri - that could buy a dozen multiengine test platforms with strong wings to hang test engines under and large enough for 6 techs and their tonne of testing equipment....

GE400 series estimates show modern 2Bn$ is required to develop an engine from scratch. Kaveri 90kN to enhance the core of kaveri 1.0 with 1Bn$ ask seems to be in this direction. It might take a few a more range upto 1.5Bn $ to develop.

It is very good that USA is offering its engine for AMCA and helping in developing. Not only in amca but for tejas mk1a, mk2 engines are provided by usa. Please try to be self dependent and reliant on engine technology as it main part in a fighter aircraft. Also try to integrate kaveri in tejas line up ASAP. Once it is integrated even with less power there will be no arm twisting no ifs and buts. Just it should fly. The world should know that india is capable of flying its own indigenous aircraft solely on its own without anybodys help. Even till now j20 is improving day by day on its engine refinement. Some failures can be there but this is how progress is made. Also the Government should sanction immediately 1 billion to gtre for kaveri2 as it will pave path for more advanced engine. Also HAL should try its hands on c295 as a passenger aircraft with a capacity of 60 to 80 passengers for regional aircraft. Also HAL can try for VIP this aircraft. Instead of using helicopter c295 is much safer for VIPs and defence personnel. Please consider.

Instead of just 1B$ funding GoI should provide 1.5-2B$ funding to GTRE plus extra funding for all the required Test Facilities to set-up.
But the aim should be Kaveri 3.0 (if I may say) with max. Wet Thrust of 100-105KNT and Dry Thrust of 60-65KNT.
Because I believe with current Kaveri 1 (say) prototype GTRE already aim to achieve max. 80-85KNT Wet and 50-55KNT Dry Thrust.
So why aim for only 92-95KNT max. dry Thrust. Aim bigger.
Note :- I know it will be very very hard to achieve this but isn't GTRE wants to develop a version 2 (say mk-2 variant) of Kaveri Engine. Than better to target something that can even upgrade your Tejas mk2 properly during it's mid life upgrades.

It is very strange Israel is arming Azerbaijan against Armenia. Anyone know why?

    • @user-lb8bg6kj9m
      @user-lb8bg6kj9m Před měsícem +1

Azerbaijan and Israel want an East-West corridor (mainly for oil and gas transport) between the Caspian sea to Israel. Turkey wants the same to its country.
Both are this arming Azerbaijan hoping it can capture more of Armenia's land and create such a corridor.
Azerbaijan's main export is oil and gas and that would flow from Azerbaijan across the captured territory of Armenia through to Turkey and Israel. Great for Israel as they don't have to depend on Arabs for energy supplies.
Russia, Iran and India are on the other team. All 3 want a North-South corridor so resources can flow from Russia to India.
Neither Russia nor Iran want resources flowing from the Caspian sea to Israel or anywhere else that bypasses their countries.
Both corridors East-West and North-South intersect one another and might be mutually exclusive if no arrangement can be reached between the above nations.
Russia is in a hard place as it cannot be seen as taking sides between its neighbors Azerbaijan or Armenia. It did not intervene when Azerbaijan attacked Armenia over Ngirno-Karabak region leading to Armenia losing trust in Russia.
If I'm reading things right, Russia has requested India to ensure the safety of Armenia against Azerbaijan to keep the North-South corridor alive.
Most of the weapons Armenia is "buying" are in fact military aid (free) from India to Armenia to help them defend themselves against their much larger and richer neighbor.

The Pinaka rocket systems worth about 255 million then the 155m self propelled artillery worth about 250 million again, than the surface to air Akash about 600 million and a few other stuff totalling not more than 200 million at the moment.
All this together does not pass 1.5 billion and you have to consider that this is being supplied throughout 2 years so Armenia’s budget is actually 1,5 billion plus next year’s budget.

Tot is a useless buzzword where the country hands over huge amoutns of money and only ends up assembling foreign research, designed and produced parts. Basically zero is learnt but a big bill is paid to subsizied foreign arms R&D base.
So stop saying 100% Tot because its utterly meaningless.
The only way to know is to do. And the do is not handing over money. The do is building the R&D base, having the scientists and engineers cut their teeth on developing jet engine technology, the materials researchers coming up with the metalurgy, the controls systems and simulations, the supply chain...etc.

Plus, "Make in India" or Indigenous is something you are saying do-do a lot but it takes much longer time and you need to think about handling or balancing current and future threats. Suppose we can make an engine in 10-15 years but there is war before that than what? At that time we will pay premium on already premium weapon systems just like we did in Kargil. I agree you have some valid points but you are missing the entire picture.

It is being _done_ at the present moment as Kaveri ahs been making good progress lately with a few variants under development and two approching certification.
Handing over a load of money to a foreign jet engine manufacturer and claiming "we are getting 100% TOT !!" as if the handing over of the money magically downloads the brains of the foreign scientists and engineers which made those advancements into the brains of Indian scientists and engineers and into Indian industry is lunacy. The supply chain that has to be grown alongside the engine development effort alone is complex.
Also all that money being handed over abroad means India builds a the R&D aerospace base of a foreign country at the expense of its own.
There is no way to build a modern jet engine other than to do it domestically. Even NATO countries understand that with US, France / Germany, UK..etc. developing their own engines.

there is far more to be lost waiting around than to start the planning, design and R&D process for Kaveri II.

    • @realpennywise

@@mth469 a valid point. But, I see following benefits with first delivering successful and reliability proven Kaveri with After Burner -
      1. With confidence and Technolgy maturity achieved, it should take less time for GTRE to design and deliver more powerful engine
      2. With the knowledge gained, GTRE can refine the models and simulators to understand how the engine might behave with different parameters. This can bring down the number of tests required while developing the new engine.
      3. the reliable Kaveri engines can aid with faster development of drones and CATS warrior as the designers can design/tweak the body around the engine numbers for optimal performance of the aircraft
      4. Potential for HAL/ADA to design a twin engine aircraft (Rafale weight class) around Kaveri engine that might replace or compliment the MRCA deal
points 3 and 4 will save a lot of dollars for Bharat as it will import less foreign engines and can potentially export jets/drones with no restrictions.
