Nintendo holds some of my greatest gaming memories. The only things that come close from Sony and Microsoft are Halo(XBOX), Tomb Raider(PS1), God of War (Originals and new)(PS2/PS4/PS5), Devil May Cry 1 and 3 (PS2), Jak and Daxter series (PS2), and Kingdom Hearts 1&2 (PS2).
Nintendo gave me Mario games (NES-Switch), Zelda (NES-Switch), Metroid (SNES-Switch didnât really play the NES game), Mario Kart (SNES-Switch), Mario Partyâs, Kirby (GameBoy-Switch), and it introduced me to TETRIS!!!
Not to mention consoles like the 3DS!

Nintendo is a gem that we should cherish. They focus mainly on quality video games and hopefully always will continue doing.
Well Nintendo, exist since the dawn of Gaming and still thriving.
Gaming started long before Nintendo showed up.

It doesn't mean they're better but Nintendo knows this is a marathon not a sprint and they have so much experience that they pass down to their younger employees. Their business is designed to last and stand like Japan itself against mother nature.
Nintendo also get right about staying out of politics/social issues, which the other two like to get involved with and it excludes people by its very nature. Nintendo is simply just a gaming company which is how it should be
Another thing to think about in emulation and IPs is that they are far more incentivized to protect their IPs and software. Because games are Nintendo's main thing, unlike Microsoft and Sony, which have several entertainment industries to fall back on.

That's the interesting thing about Nintendo. Alot of their practices are heavily root in alot of traditonalist Japanese values, but in cases like this; this tends to work for their benefit. Granted, I'm one of those people that act like Nintendo can do no wrong, and even I admit they're not above their problematic practies(I still stand by the point that they're just as cutthroat as Disney when it comes to their copyright), and they had their fair share of blunders.(The Wii U, Virutal boy, N64DD) But at least compaired to most game companies, they maintain a consistant level of quality control.
Yeah and now look at Disney, they have gone completely woke and goes against the fans of their IPs.
Nintendo are in their own wheelhouse compared to playstation and Xbox, They don't need to rely on the same tactics or games. The Switch gave us the most popular console design of all time, the hybrid handheld was a game changer and paved the way for handheld PCs. PlayStation and Xbox days are numbered, all you need to cover the best in gaming is a PC and Nintendo.

Sony and MS aren't going anywhere. Neither is on the way down. People are also letting emotions guide their criticism of MS's recently announced shut-downs. It's a positive move for the business.

No, all you need is Nintendo you donât need a PC you donât need a PlayStation and you certainly donât need an Xbox. I only have a Nintendo switch and my next console will be a Nintendo Switch and thatâs all I need until Nintendo makes the next General switch or whatever console it will be after another seven or eight years, Nintendo is all I need my retro systems.
Modern gaming sucks.
But Nintendo is not modern gaming. Instead of unfinished games with a lot of microtransactions and games that have more cutscenes than gameplay, Nintendo makes smaller games with fun gameplay, such as spin-offs or smaller franchises, giving them more time to make the big games, making the game better, which makes the games sell better, giving them more reasons to make smaller games and rinse and repeat
They also make games with a lot of reply value.
Buying a Switch 2 kind of contradicts me liking my Switch as i said many times i dont need a new console cause of all the games, old, retro and new.
As an example i am on my second Mario Odysee run, i have DBZ for 2 years, just finished the Cell sage and played Bardock and Trunks dlc in order. Gonna backlog it for other games and pick at later on starting Buu saga and will buy the 23rd budokai DLC, and when finishing the Buu arc i will play the BOG/Freeza RF arc and than finish the End of Z DLC after Buu, so that will be months ahead.

Also have Batman Arkham and i am still at Asylum.
And many other games i can replay or need to finish and want to buy.
I can plan atleast 3 years ahead and upgraded to OLED last year.
So if i buy a Switch 2 it will be pure greediness, even when it comes to hardware power.

I love story focused games, but those games have much less replay value because the gameplay is often not that good and because you already know the story, there are no surprises in the story. Nintendo opts for better gameplay. and story focused games such as Xenoblade or Fire Emblem still have good gameplay

Nintendo carter to a younger audience. Thatâs why they can make relatively non-complex games that parent love buying for their children. Very smart.
They appeal to an EVERYONE audience. You donât sell 140 million consoles by selling to only kids.

All corporate businesses are greedy and coldhearted. They dont care about consumers. They just care that we consume, regardless if the product is good or not. Nintendo makes great original games, but since they dipped their toes in the online gaming scene, their service has been nothing but dogsh*t. Their retro libraries pale in comparison to a great emulator that has ALL the classics while the high impact and fast-paced games are given a basic service to connect everyone around the world, it is tremendously horrible with constant disconnects, lag, and unresponsive customer service. Nintendo may be wise for staying away from the spotlight, but that doesn't mean their customers aren't staying quiet. They just shut them up with new games or outright ban you their service.

Yeah, others are focusing on making newer games more realistic. But Nintendo mostly focus on making fun ones. I used to be impressed by "good graphics". But I realized I don't need those kind of games to be immersed when I finally got a Switch. Now my PS is dusty, and it's not about the Switch's ability to become a handheld device because I mostly play it in dock mode.

I am very happy with Nintendo, but we have to be honest with Nintendo here 2024 has been very slow with content other than remakes which I am very excited about but their NSO roadmap has been non existent and ultimately a letdown with no bangers since Golden Sun. Theyâve held out on banger titles on the N64 like Super Smash, Banjo Tooie, DK64, Diddy Kong racing⊠if they announced a release of these or a roadmap for 2024 for upcoming titles Iâd feel a lot more comfortable for being an annual subscriber. And it doesnât make their war against emulation justifiable when they hold on to their best titles that we the customer and loyal fans want to play on NSO and our consoles.
Yes nintendo are smarter because they don't play the rat race. they don't chase specs. all they do is compete for your time and strive for unique experiences. they don't even do m&a unless the company they're working with is going bankrupt. it's all about culture, cultivating genius developers and producing good games. They aren't trying to change the gaming landscape, the most they'll do is slowly adopt new technologies and make you play with a funny controller.
Nintendo isnt a perfect company, far from it. But what I can compliment them on and in my opinion many still overlook is their commitment to their employee's. Unlike sony and Microsoft who shut down studios and lay staff to save money, Nintendo instead decided to raise their employees salary because they actually value them.
Tears of the Kingdom had some issues in my opinion but Nintendo did do pretty good over the last year overall

Smarter?? We don't know about that, but what I can confidentally say is that all of them can be incredibly dumb at times.
The simplest way I can put it is like this. Nintendo "Keeps it real". With Nintendo, you as a consumer KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING. There is NO BULLSH*T. These is NO mixed messaging. Nintendo is on a straight path and they don't deviate from it.
Sony and Microsoft are confusing their fanbase and sending mixed messages. Sony is like, "Nintendo is kiddy" yet they copy Smash Bros, Mario Kart and made Astro's Playroom and call that garbage a "masterpiece". "We believe in exclusives". Yet they put their games on PC. This confuses and pisses off consumers. Xbox is even WORSE.
Pick a lane, stick with it, and stay laser focused on it. Sony and Microsoft is all over the place throwing sh*t at walls hoping it sticks.

Nintendo does some things better than Sony and Microsoft and other things worse. In the end, I think it all balances out; they're all corporations (even if some of my fondest memories are with Nintendo games).
Nintendo is one of the few companies in the world that has everybody happy. The workers are happy because they have JOB SECURITY. NO LAYOFFS. The investors are happy because Nintendo makes money hand over fist. The consumers are happy because they get COMPLETE products that are masterpieces and games like Mario Kart 8 that has infinite replay value.
I said it before and I'll say it again, Nintendo's biggest challenge in the future is going to be trying to make people STOP PLAYING MARIO KART 8 and buy Mario Kart 9. Mario kart 9 is in for a big challenge.

Xbox and Nintendo each take half of what Disney is trying to be. Xbox took Disneyâs idea of brute forcing their way to monopoly with no consideration for financial decisions, Nintendo took Disneyâs idea of aggressive protection of ipâs.

First let's answer the question posed in the title: No. Nintendo took a huge gamble and it paid off. But look at the Wii-U and you can see that it was as much a fluke as it was good planning. Thankfully they learned at least a bit from their enormous marketing blunder with the Wii-U.
MS's "weird" decisions will always be "weird" when you have no insight into the internals. Those studios likely cost too much money to run.
Nintendo's biggest strength is its own IP. Take away their big titles and what's available on the system is utter crap. I collect for all systems, and for the Switch, it's really depressing when you look at the overall landscape. They have 3 sales tactics which have led and will lead to success again. 1 price 2. portability and 3 their own IP and exclusive titles. No more no less. Specs didn't matter and won't matter again. They won't match PS4 Pro nor XBOX One X, but will still do well if the new system differentiates from the Switch and if the hardware is profitable.
It'll still leave Nintendo in second place, but likely ahead of MS and Sony. Apple will remain the #1 in gaming sales - units and profits.
But let's point out the huge elephant in the room. Nintendo's weakness is the speed at which it develops new titles, whether it be its tent-pole franchises or completely new offerings. Until Tears of the Kingdom, 100% of the best Switch titles were Wii-U ports (that were/are already amazing on Wii-U).

On the Mariokart 8 front, Nintendo dragged over a more polished Wiiu game and gave that to the Switch. Then, polished up a bunch of old tracks from older systems and jammed them on the Nintendo online only! I haven't fool for this sales tactic but I might pay for Nintendo online if they released all of the tracks and a separate Mariokart game that I can have in physical form.

If it was VC they'd make you buy the games everytime they released a new console, if they keep NSO for switch 2, all you have to do is migrate your account to the new platform. which one is the most anti-consumer move? i think it's the first one cause i hate wasting money. Iâve owned all three and the switch is the one I constantly play and still buy games for. Microsoft and Sony have only disappointed and screwed themselves over and over this generation itâs laughable. The thought that someone bought a scalped system for more than msrp to play a handful of mediocre/remade games the last 3 years makes me happy
