    Im confused about the cupboard. work = force x displacement. In the example, a force was applied and there was displacement so how is there no work?

    • @send_help_to_tas2251
      @send_help_to_tas2251 Před 3 měsíci

      There's work done by you thus making you lose energy, which is then gained by the cupboard but just as quickly removed by friction as it does negative work (probably converted into heat and sound) so there is no kinetic energy left in the cupboard

    The math equation explanation is correct. However, the push cupboard and raise puppy examples need to be broken into two parts: acceleration from rest, and deceleration back to rest. That would be a better explanation.

    I think explaining the first situations as adding/removing kinetic energy is not appropriate since you can't just add or remove energy. there's actually conversion of energy working behind it.

    • @KhanAcademyIndiaEnglish
      @KhanAcademyIndiaEnglish  Před 2 lety +7

      Thanks, I think I should have worded that better!
      You can always add/remove energy from any object. It's just that that energy has to come from/go somewhere. In the case of the video, that energy is coming from/going to my body!

  • @grahamflowers

    There is no kinetic energy in a moving mass there is force Mv squared, kinetic energy is the energy of consistent work from a consistent force regards Graham Flowers

      I was wondering the same thing. If work is equal to kinetic energy. Then, did he skip a step when creating connection between kinetic energy and work. When kinetic energy is equal to 1/2 m x v^2. I am very confused...

    i am confused with the puppy example. you raised the potential energy of the puppy which means you transferred energy to the puppy so how is there no work done blse the definition of work is clearly stated as the amount of energy transferred?

    For the case of the puppy, isn’t ur work done the gain in gravitational potential energy, mgh? How can it be 0?

    • @drofeng
      @drofeng Před rokem

      The work done by the gravitational force is the negative of the change in potential energy. Hence, the work done by an external agent (you) to move the puppy up against the gravitational field is mgh (the total gained potential energy).
      By moving the puppy up slowly (quasi-static, constant velocity, dynamic equilibrium, neglecting inertial effects) i.e. Fnet=F-mg=0 at all times
      If we are talking about the net work done, the net force (Fnet) on the puppy is always zero, and therefore the net work done (by the external agent + the gravitational force) on the puppy is zero
