No one seems to know. My peppers and tomatoes get rot on the stem. Is that also "end rot" or is it another issue?
Best tom vid I've seen in a bit. Cheers.
Zucchini care? I just got through eating a volunteer squash from my compost pile! It was a cool hybrid. Yum!
What are the easiest summer crops to grow?
Cucumbers and peppers next please!!
Good concise common-sense tomato growing tips mate. I'm going to give the weave a go👍
Thanks Mark! You'll love it. The Brisbane Bundle 😂😜
@@epicgardening It's the Dynamic Duo, Mark and Kevin.
What is this a cross over episode the only reason I really watch CZcams now are because of you two.
Love both of your channels! 💚
Love that you guys support each other 👊 just heard mark give Kevin a shoutout in his live video lol
Love is hating tomatoes with a passion but doing everything in your power to make them thrive because your wife loves tomatoes. Thanks for this video, it came just in time 😂
@@Carnie773 it helps that they are a pretty plant!
You are a true gardener
09:33 It's important to make the bzzz noise so that the tomato plant thinks it's a bee and not just some nutter with a toothbrush 😉
Ba ha ha...I'm not there yet but..ha ha
Exactly 😂
🤣 This is absolutely hilarious 😂
I have blared Flight of the Bubble Bees in my headphones while toothbrush vibrating.
Lol right 😂
This is my first year growing vegetables and I'm pretty sure I've made every mistake with my two tomato plants!!! But hey, they're still alive and I've harvested 10 whole cherry tomatoes. I'll do better next year and the year after that now that I've subscribed to your channel!
Just trimmed my 1st tomato plant! Called the garden center to confirm it is an indeterminate variety. Happy 99th Grandma! (Her gift)
That is so amazing ❤ What a wonderful gift
When you spray yourself with a hose just "keep on and just live our lives" . Great advice. Great video.
Immediately liked for that guaranteed juice bonus.
man we need a full homestead and graden tour! 1hr plus video next?
Yes!
Cool video man. I’m sure it will help a lot of people to grow some healthy and juicy tomatoes!
Some people like the smell of flowers but the smell of a tomato plant... 👀 top tier
Truth
I agree. The smell of a tomato plant is wicked good
6:49 got me 😂 love the video! Mid-season advice like this is so rare, and so valuable!
Coincidentally, I've just started growing my tomatoes this week. I need this info. Salamat po.
E: And I also planted some holy basil
Try adding a bunch if gypsum your soil. You will be amazed how it will loosen your soil and help absorb water quicker.
Does it help with water retention for sandy soil too?
Lots of gardeners coming out with tomato videos today
I finally pruned my tomatoes yesterday, mostly thanks to your awesome videos! I was super nervous but they all look so good now 😊
My tomatoes are in an area where they are protected from the really strong storm winds we get here in the spring, so my morning routine involves walking trough and gently tapping each flower with an electric toothbrush. It really seems to make a difference in fruit production compared to before I started doing it.
This video inspired me so much to grow tomatoes in our winter time that I might just do it indoors now.
Great video as always! 👍
Dude I can't stop coming across your channel whenever I google certain gardening questions. You are the BOMB! Always have amazing advice. THANK YOU!
I have learned so much from you, Kevin. It's wonderful to keep up with your journey from the urban garden to this homestead. Thank you for your videos. They are entertaining and very educational!
Been watching your channel for years! Love to see the evolution of your channel and the work you have put into developing your techniques and your brand! This tomato series especially is really well done!
I have two tomato plants one indoors and one outside, so far the indoor one is winning the race on growth and flowering. Probably because it’s 100 degrees outside most days!
I have only just discovered your channel and I'm very impressed with your common sense approach and advice. I have only been taking my garden seriously for a year now and I'm learning a lot quickly but your experience is now saving me from making mistakes with my own garden and giving me fresh ideas that I would never have thought of. I have already ordered your book, it will be my new garden companion. Many thanks for a truly educational channel and keep the videos coming.
Yea we also use Espoma and we love it. Creates good yields.
I live VA housing. I formerly used mound system. My g-father & mother, taught me a lot about gardening & vermiculture. So, I'm considering getting back to my passion.
Last time I gardened, my cherry tomatoes totally took over, and couldn't control them.
Going to use broom stick to utilize window.
I don't eat tomatoes but this is our second year growing them. Our family and neighbors love them. I need to know more about better planting them.
I planted my basil next to my tomatoes, what a fortunate accident for me!
I will follow your instructions to the best of my ability. Hopefully this year I get a lot of juicy tomatoes!
Love this! I have about 16 tomato plants this year and this, and your other tomato videos, have come in really handy!
Thank you! This year I am growing tomatoes for the first time. These tips are so helpfull.
I'm going to try harder this year with tomatoes because last year I didn't do anything but prune and I had hornworms and blossom end rot on all 25 tomato plants. This year I'm determined to get a good crop 😤😤
Today in the morning only +3 degrees Celsius. Hope the tomatoes will survive it... very cold weather in Central Europa. 😌 However, the rain is so good for nature 💚
Thanks for this, Kevin. My tomatoes are suffering from blights so I have been solving that problem since March.
Lol, these jumping into the scene moments at the beginning of the videos kill me : )
TIP- A Gardening Fertilizer success. We first made our own bio char. Filled several large plastic bins 1/2 full of the Bio-Char. Then we put Choir/soil mix with Red Wigglers on top.. These Tubs were maintained feeding and watering the Red Wigglers (worms) on top of the Bio-Char for approx. 1 yr. We dumped three large tubs in the Planned garden area this year and our Tomato Blooms look like Dandelions-(Super Blooms). The other plants thriving include Squash, Cucumbers, Peas, Corn, Swiss Chard, Beats. This is a first year garden (1250 SF). Heavy Clay Dirt, the kind that is cement in the summer. Good Gardening from The Hipps
Love the sense of humor :) thanks for this information, so well-timed of course. Had a lot of issues with splitting last summer. Hoping for a better crop this time!
I need to start more seeds because I ran out of things to put under tomatoes lol
I'm growing tomatillos for the first time, verde and violeta. I started them in March, 8-12 weeks prior to last frost......they are now 2' tall and full of flowers! Huge! In my house, under the lights. They don't self pollinate so I'm tickling flowers from plant to plant to plant to plant....and back again. My husband doesn't even ask questions anymore, just watches me with a bewildered expression. I can only imagine if I started using an electric toothbrush on them.
I actually do use an electric toothbrush, brush side up into the flower itself, and I have loads of tomatillos alraedy!
I planted 4 tomato plants in containers on my patio and two of the croaked immediately 😭 I think it’s because I didn’t harden them before planting. Their replacements are doing great, though. Thanks for the extra tips!
I had a big problem with souther blight last year. It killed all my pepper plants. So this year I pruned all the lower leaves just like you did to your tomato plants. This year all my plants look very healthy.
Perfect timing for this video, I will be doing the Florida Weave for my early tomatoes today! Everything looks awesome in your new space.
Thank you for aIl those tips! I just transplant my tomatoes to my garden yesterday and trail them following your previous video 😃 this follow up is perfect!
Did you and MIGardener got together and planned "Tomato Tuesday"? 😂
Hahaha nope!
if Mark from Self Sufficient Me also did a tomato video today, I would definitely say there was some planning going on. lol.
@@silverskyranch except its fall for mark.
I needed them all.
@@SgtRudySmithbRet he lives in QLD it's always summer there, just cooler and hotter Weather.
Another amazing video! love watching your garden grow with you and using your tips straight away in mine
Love the videos tomatoes started my garden. Thanks for helping me spend a little extra time in the garden today.
Thank you for this video! I just recently bought my first tomato plant. I'm already excited!
We love growing tomatoes. The leaves smell amazing.
you just saved my tomatoes from certain death lmao
Always nice to learn something new. I might try planting one of those plants between my Tomatoes this year.
Thank you Kevin for you knowledge and information! The tomatoes are looking good!
👍 I tried the best homegrown tomato ever last summer called a black krim. Ate it like an apple.😋🍎🖤
As always thanks so much for your expertise Kevin! Have a good day💯
Thank you for all the gardening tips sir you’re awesome 🙌🏽 can’t wait to get your book. Blessings!
Thank you for the heat wilt tip because I was stressed I wasn't watering enough even when soil was adequately moist.
What you teach works for me. Thank you!
Just found your channel the other day and love it. Thanks for all the great info!
I opted for the Florida weave this year thanks to your previous video. Ty for showing if I missed a prune it's ok weave in. Excited for my 55% lol. Awesome video ty
Where just keeping on and living our lives well said my friend
I set up a Florida weave for mine and it's working great!! My pineapple tomato is almost 5 ft tall!
Hi Kevin, I'd love to see a guide for those vertical sets I've seen you use. Which plants will do well those, which won't (if they have wide roots for example), and how well you like them.
Really informative video! I enjoy your videos. keep up the great content. Cheers!
Thanks Kev!
I just put some dwarf tomatoes in some small pots and put one in my little greenhouse as we're going into winter here in Australia, hopefully they will be ok and i can extend the harvest a little bit, plus i have romas and cherry tomatoes that self seeded starting to flower, very exciting
Now I know summer is here!
Love how much you love your soil! Haha...that "woooo!" 😂 All the gardeners said amen
Very enjoyable video, thank you 😊 Cloudy and cold here today, so vicariously enjoying your weather 🌞
Just in time. In from the garden I solarized and am prepping then Boop there you are. I bought tomatoes started cause they take so long to start from seed and I'm starting too many other things from seed...have to look up determinate and indeterminate varieties prior to planting. Basil I will put in containers amongst the in ground tomatoes cause they dislike that much water. Peppers will be nearby. That colour green looks great on you Kevin
Glad it’s summer in America because it’s winter in Australia and I’ve just started my tomatoes and can use all this advice (except to not grow tomatoes in winter) Kevin is giving
Love this video, can’t wait to see an update on those GIANT tomatoes!!
Haha the way you just drop in at the beginning lol love it, thanks for sharing
Always good to learn some more on tomatoes!
Tons of great info here for us new veggie gardeners!
Your videos are always so helpful, thank you
This will help my mom with her tomatoes. Thanks.
i like doing quad stem method this season where you prune the bottom suckers but then after a certain height, ill let one thick sucker survive while picking off the rest, then on the main stem and sucker, i will let another sucker grow on each of them turning it into a quad stem, then removing the suckers after that, i feel like it creates a nice, clean uniform plant but also bushy to protect the fruit.
Timely video, we had a late frost a couple of nights ago. They came through ok but I did need to trim up the bases.
Love watching our Australian blue banded bees stopping for a fraction of a second on the tomato flowers and you can hear how their buzzing gets higher in pitch and then fly to the next flower...
I just planted my tomatoes last week and I was going to plant some basil this week, think I'm going to wait for the tomatoes to grow a bit and interplant them now
Love those tomato 🍅 clips🤩. I use them for so many things in the garden. Good advice for tomatoes 🍅 also👍🧤
He do be leaping in from the side tho
So, I had watched a previous video on 2x speed and forgot to change it back, and then he lept into the frame and did a jump scare on me! LMAO!
Hi Kevin! This came at a perfect time. I'm getting ready to plant my tomatoes in the next day, or two. I always plant marigolds with them and cucumbers in my two raised beds. I plant marigolds with my zucchini and peppers, too. My raised beds are 8'x3'x18" high. I live in zone 7a, Nampa, ID and am wondering how long I should run the soaker hoses each morning? I will have them set up on a timer to run early in the morning. Also, you mentioned in an earlier video on trellis's for tomatoes that there is a better way to trellis cucumbers. Do you have a link for that? Another question ~ do you prune your bell pepper plants? I've never done it, but wondering if I should. I'd love to see videos on growing cucumbers, zucchini and peppers. How to prune, or not to prune, water, support and fertilizing. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Love the basil in between the tomatoes…💚
Hey man! newbie gardener here and just want to say that this video was SUPER helpful for me - also, i'm from the Philippines soo.. Salamat Kababayan! :)
"were just keeping on...and living our lives" lol and then the hop in at the start lol bro , videos are gold🥇
Thanks Kevin for your advice continue to learn from you! (Goldfields Victoria Australia)
Thanks for the tomato video, I like seeing tomato taste testing when they ripen also, gives me more ideas on which tomatoes to grow for next year! :}
My husband and I are challenging each other to see who can have the better tomatoes now that he has his garden and I have mine and after watching this video I think I’m gonna win😆👏🏼🍅 thanks🤞🏼🙏🏼
Some people don't like the smell of granular organic fertilizer. I love it. It's a promising smell for the garden.
Thanks for that advice 👍👍
Thank you so much, I love watching your videos❣️❣️❣️
Can you do a how-to grow Peach video
We love growing tomatoes more than any other crop.
I super love your channel 😍 I love gardening too 🤩
Are there benefits beyond maximizing space when inter-planting basil or other plants with tomatoes? Any mutually beneficial exchange of nutrients? Your videos are great & very informative! Hoping to dig a little deeper.
What kind of mic do you use? I’m completely amazed that your audio is so clear while I see I the trees move so much.
Watering in ground tomatoes vs watering tomatoes in a grow bag is so different. I wish people would make the distinction. Or do a separate video on caring for tomatoes in grow bags. Saying they don’t need watering a lot would cause problems for tomatoes in grow bags; especially in 90 degree weather. At least in my experience.
I know. I just transferred my zucchini plants because grow bags did not retain any water. High 90s where I live too.
I do my tomatoes in grow bags as well and during our hottest summer days, sometimes I have to water twice. I’m zone 7, Baltimore, MD
For sure...working on that!
@@katiebratt2814 I might have to do the same. I’m not supposed to plant anything in ground (rental agreement). Greetings from California zone9b.
@@PatriciasPrimerJardin this will be my 3rd or 4th year using them. They work great!
Thanks for the info.
I anticipate your videos like waiting for new episodes to my favorite TV show to come out♥️
Me too and there were new sound effects today! LOL
Wow I wish I had a garden like yours! I am growing my tomato plant in a pot this summer!
