@@tomlaptain646 His death was Random and out of the Blue (Like most D&D deaths)
But what made me Tear up what like you said, the aftermath of what Molly left.
The "visiting Mollys grave" scene was when the tears hit me. Outstanding storytelling!
Nolagadh Same. Visiting the grave, and Matt's narration of Yasha's reaction... I was done.
I cried so much during this part
Finding out that Jester, Fjord, and Yasha could hear them fighting and Laura's delivery of "We heard people shouting, I heard you call for Molly" fucking KILLED me
"What did you do?"
"I made the earth remember him."
Ouch that hit in the feels. What a way to bid farewell to your original character.
Doubly so when you think about how Clay is doing it because it’s what he believes in, but also because the first time Molly “died” the earth didn’t take him. I don’t know how much of the overlap was intentional on Talesein’s part but I love all of it.
I kind of got a little mad. Thought bo might be.
We held onto the hope that he would come bacl from the dead. That hope is gone
@@luckywithpaint7773 I mean, out of character, it's Taliesin's choice to end that chapter. I get that the actual RP could've been different, but I guess they didn't necessarily know what he did? But it's also good to move on and not dwell on past characters.
@@luckywithpaint7773 It’s what Molly would have wanted. He was someone else before, and he’d be someone else after. He always said the body was HIS. And now it forever will be. I think it’s quite beautiful.

You are right on time, friend!
“Late” doesn’t exist - wizards arrive precisely when they need to
@sydneyellen5273 yes but I'm a barbarian. And I'm still late
Oh, absolutely the same! Such fantastic storytelling
The way Taliesin said “who?” When Jester asked where Molly is... oh my god, Tal. Why???
Because he has to remind the other players that his new character just met this group. Easy to forget if he doesn't RP it. He also has to make a point of thinking from the outsider POV so he doesn't slip up himself and know things that Molly knew but Cad doesn't.
That's my guess at the purely pragmatic reasons, anyway :P
Peter Cordes The question was mostly rhetorical, the way he said it just struck a cord in me. As a narrative it makes sense it just hurt because I love Mollymauk so much.
@@tbugmurphy Same here-
I'm glad he said that. I hate losing Molly but appreciate that Tal was quick to point out what he had no way of knowing.
@@Xiatter I know, but it still hurts
I knew the "Where's Molly?" part was gonna hurt but finding they were in the caravan when he died? That was what really pushed it over. And you can see Liam's face sink as Jester asks about him.

@@TravisStocktondude what
I'm upset that Ashley wasn't able to do the scene where Yasha found out about Molly's passing, BUT WOW Matt did such an outstanding job, as he described her hair, which isn't something Player Characters tend to do, and the lighting in the distance. It was almost poetry
Hal F Yeah I've always felt bad that Ash didn't get to do it, but I'm not sure, and I say this as someone who loves her so much, that she could have done it any better. Matt just nailed it so hard, and made a whole scene.
rewatching this again, man I am so impressed at Matt' in that scene. I don't think you could come up with a more beautiful and nuanced description if you had all the time in the world and he is just going in the moment. Really makes me appreciate how freaking cool and special the live format of this show and the skill the cast puts into making such a compelling story
I have a sneaking suspicion that Matt was texting Ashley behind the screen for Yasha's reaction to seeing Molly's grave.
@@michaelbryant3640 yeah I like to think he would've messaged her beforehand asking how Yasha would react should they stop at Mollymauk's grave.
Yeah, he did.
I'm not sure when he talked about it - probably on Talks Machina- , but I'm quite sure he said, that he talked with Ashley how Yasha was going to react in this situation.
Edit: So I looked it up, it's in Talks Machina for episode 31 of campaign 2 at 29:42.
Having Taliesin still decide what card Jester would pull just signifies that those cards were special to him. I love that touch, makes it feel more real and special.
See further in episode 88 I think he explains a bit on them
That was very emotional...
I loved that part, but goddamn did it make me cry...
Matt asking what card was drawn was the last thing he addressed to Molly
I cried when they visited his grave and they pulled a card. I didn’t expect to cry. And then Taliesin, in a way, says good bye to his own character. ;_;
Caleb: "You cannot blame yourself for being taken advantage of. You know what I mean?"
Fjord: "You don't understand though."
He says to the one person who understands better than anyone.
That was also Liam talking to Travis. Because Molly died on a filler arc because they where gone for a couple of reasons. I assume Travis and Laura wished their characters could have been there to help.
better than anyone? better than yasha?
"Do as I say, not as I do"
Fjord doesnt know Caleb backstory yet
@gobeheroes Honestly, I feel like Caleb WOULD know better than Yasha. Yasha was literally, magically controlled to do what she did, and while of course there's still guilt and shame, Caleb CHOSE to do what he did. He bears the guilt not just for the act itself but for the fact that he chose to do it. Yasha was forced against her will, but Caleb had his very will warped to match Trent's.
“I made the earth remember him.”
That line is so powerful.

This episode is fucking sad for a lot of reasons, but that little bit of Jester kind of "losing" her Faith, writing "Why didn't you come?" In her diary, trying to communicate with the traveller felt like a throat punch.
There once was a flood, and as the rising water enveloped the town, and man sat on the roof of his house.
Another man in a boat came by 'Climb into my boat,' he called up to the man on the roof.'
'No need thanks,' response the man on the roof. 'The Lord will save me'.
The rain continues, and the waters rise, and then, another man rows up. 'Hey there, get into the boat, and I'll take you to safely.'
But the man on the roof says 'I have faith, the Lord will save me.'
As the flood waters rise yet higher, a helicopter flies over the town, and hovers close to the man on the roof. 'Quick, climb aboard', calls out the pilot 'we'll save you'.
But the man refuses, 'No need, for I have faith, and the Lord shall save me!'
So the helicopter flies away, and the man remains on his roof.
The waters rise, and he is swept away and drowned.
As the man's soul reaches the gates of Heaven, he angrily complains to St Peter, who's manning the gates. 'Why didn't the Lord save me?' He demands.
'Oh, for goodness sake!' Says St Peter crossly, 'He sent two boats and a helicopter, what more did you want?'
That was the bit that got me the most out of everything. Just so unbearably lonely and vulnerable
@@dromankass8655 unlike the ‘Lord’ in that superstitious book that little story draws from, The Traveler has actually done tangible things for Jester so it’s a bit of a flawed comparison.

I'm so glad she is back. I find it hard to watch the episodes she's not in
These past few episodes really hurt the soul.
Same! When I heard Fjord and her voice I was soooo happy
Keg, Nila and Shakaste did a lot to fill the void, but Laura/Jester is so freaking outstanding. I missed her a lot.
"He tried so hard to get to you" just really got me for some reason
I love how secretly badass Caleb is. Like whenever he rolls a natural 20, he's so casual and then the rest of the table is all like "WOOOOAAAAH!! " Its really cool
The same energy as when Sam calmly and confidentially says he rolled a nat 1
How surreal this must have been for Taliesin when they stopped at Molly's grave. I wonder what was going through his mind.
It must feel odd. Going to your own funeral/ memorial, in some way
His face just looked sad same with Caled
I had an experience like that. My paladin got killed, so I rolled up his sister he was searching for and the first thing she did was bury her brother, get VERY drunk, and burn down the house he died in.
If I was sending off my own dead character with the rest of the party as a different character I’ll just be crying. Thinking about regrets my character had and imagine them looking down at everyone saying goodbye to my grave.
@@nuyabuisness7526 thats one hell of a way to join a campaign though
I could be completely wrong, but I imagine purple orchids on Molly’s grave. Growing despite season or weather, springing up around the marker.
I'd always imagined hollyhocks because of the name, and some fanart, and how bold and bright they are, but purple orchids are a beautiful thought. You're making me cry. Again.
If you watch the relevant live Talks Machina panel, a questioner asks Taliesin what flowers Yasha might place on Molly's grave. He says red & purple snapdragons are his favorite flower. It's the very last question!
m.czcams.com/video/YSLu_mwax0Q/video.html
Caduceus just, confused as hell, going "What's a smut shop?" is the best shit ever.
As soon as Taliesen gave Jester the moon again, I started crying for the first time since Molly died, because I vaguely remember the meaning of the card being a very positive one. Molly told her it meant she'd find what she was looking for, and she was really happy to hear that. Molly was always making everyone happy, and he gave her that hopeful card one last time, a happy card.
Actually, and unfortunately I don't remember where I've heard this, but Molly showed her the moon card to test if the knows about the Moonweaver, the god of lies that Molly worshipped
He might have chosen this card again because, even though she doesn't worship the Moonweaver, she's a trickster and that's kind of a common thing between the two of them?
Caleb: alright everybody raise a glass
Several others: to freedommmm
Caleb: ...No
That killed me
Something they can never take away! No matter what they tell you!
Marisha's and Travi's reaction to the letter got me so good. Ashly Burch is a genius!
I had to re-watch that scene like 5 times lol
Keg was a really great chatacter. I'm often apprehensive about the guest spots because no matter who it is, it *almost* always feels like the regular crew is catering to the guest a bit...even characters I've enjoyed like Shakasta.
Keg is the first guest I can recall...season 1 or 2 who felt she legit just belonged. She could be a member of the regular crew, and it would feel totally organic and normal.
@@Aiglos78 Yeah I had to skip over Mark Holmes' episode with how much Marisha got drunk and broke character and ran over everything else. Like, at least with Jester, you know her character beat is to be intrinsically trustworthy of any new person they meet, who is clearly an adventurer of some kind. Beau is played off as a jaded asshole who refuses to trust anyone, especially not new people who are trying to use the group for personal gain.
U.S.S. Chucklefuqer the only reason worth watching the Mark Hulmes episode is how big of a dick Fjord is to his character. I found it absolutely hilarious. At one point when he says something to fjord and he replies “I do not care. Like at all.”
@@MrWaffleman2521 I mean it also shows you that Yasha’s blade works against magic items
Travis's face when they mention the "cantaloupe with a cut" and again after Matt literally describes the gem in him. No one else connected it immediately. Lol
That look was like “are you for serious man!” And no one noticed. I loved fjord going “you all recognise it right” and no one picking up.
I love Ashly's letters.
"Bo," everything's crossed out, "thanks."
LOL
So good. And Travis' burst of laughter in particular ended me on the spot.
Marisha: takes one look at the letter
M and T: *dies of laughter*
Nott asking for a insight check to see if Fjord changed, watch it in slow mo. Matthew tells Sam: He had a baby. Soooooo cute.
Dennis Slik how can you see his mouth?
:o you used slow mo to read through Matt's hand? That's pretty cool!
That's adorable I love that so much :3
Caleb: *to Fjord* "You cannot blame yourself when you are taken advantage of."
Caleb...honey, sweetie, my most precious boy...TAKE YOUR OWN ADVICE.
The yasha scream got me balling
I imagined how amazing Ashley Johnson is going to portray that in the series... my heart heard it and hurt for it.
@@rachelarpin9664 yeah especially when we know how heart wrenching her performances can be... i still can't get through that one scene in the last of us part 2 without tearing up.
if there were oscars for video game performances, i would have given one to her.
somethings really getting me about taliesin’s new character being the one who fully puts his old character to rest...feels poetic and also makes me cry a whole whole lot
I feel that
Me too. 😭
It was almost like a "Thanks friend, i'll take it from here." In a way, in my eyes, it was Taliesin passing the torch of watching over this motley crew from one soul to the next. From the hand of a trickster tiefling with tongue as quick as his blade. To the hand of a well-meaning Firbolg who is wise beyond his years.
It’s gonna get even more perfect circle :”)
Molly was the kinda friend to buy you things just because they thought of you. Clay is the kind to clean your house for you when hes over to just hang out.
The Dodecahedron: Is inside a lead box inside an extradimensional pocket.
Jester: "WHAT IF THEY CAN SENSE IT!!!"
They should probably put the Haversack of Holding into the bigger Bag of Holding, you know, just to be sure... ;)

2 years late but Liam deadpanning "what kind of sword would you like to eat this week?" Killed me.
I was sad when Molly died, but I didn't cry. I was sad when they buried him, but I didn't cry. I was sad when Jester asked where he was, but I didn't cry. So I thought I wouldn't cry when they all said goodbye......but I cried like I had lost a dear friend. I cried because it really sunk in that Molly was gone, and he probably wasn't coming back. But in that void he left, a family was born. A mighty one. A Mighty Nein.

@@pandamonium9135 I rarely cry at all, but Yasha's reaction to Molly's death got me bawling my damn eyes out and trying not to wake anyone up on the account of it being midnight
But you're right. When they left Hupperdook, they were a motley bunch of assholes, held together mostly by curiosity and self-interest. But with everything that's happened since... Now they're a family.
Jester: I think those guys are selling drugs
Clay: Oh, that’s cool
Hahaha I love this laid back attitude
Cad and Molly would get along swimmingly
@@SorchaSublime I agree, but the contrast is astonishing. Molly lived to try everything and experience all that life had to offer, Caduceus cooks eggs and makes dead people tea.
@@lordraven1991 contrasts make for good relationships.
honestly the only reason i dont ship them is because it feels sort of weird shipping two of the same persons characters without them hinting at it themselves.
@@SorchaSublime Oh in this case I could see Caduceus getting his mind blow every five seconds being around Molly as they just walk down a street. Molly was just so much to handle and Caduceus is awe struck by everything. I would love to be a third wheel in that group.

Liam: “Grab your milk. Everybody raise a glass.”
Laura and Marisha: “To freedom”
Liam: “No”

Best moment in the whole episode right here.
Caleb: "You cannot blame yourself when you were taken advantage of"

I’m pretty late to the party but the entire scene at Molly’s grave has me crying more than I ever have for a fictional character.
The visual of the snow covered coat, Jester leaving the card, Yasha waking up to the worst possible news and erupting with her wings..
This right here is peak fiction. These guys are such talented storytellers.

3:02:35 I’m so proud of Caleb. I’m not sure if Liam knew what he was saying, but ‘you can’t blame yourself when you were being taken advantage of’ is it just me or is that kinda Caleb owning up to not having to be guilty with his own past as well
I feel like Caleb knows that logically but not emotionally. He doesn’t see himself as having been taken advantage of, he sees himself as guilty, I think.
I was thinking okay darling and now look in a mirror and say it again
@@juliaj1069 the mirror would shatter under the weight of all his emotional baggage
Couldn't imagine what it felt like to watch these episodes weekly, especially since it sounds like they've taken a few weeks off between episodes... Mourning for this pretty purple tiefling, long may he reign

I've been up to date since ep30 C1 and damn it sucks. So many cliffhanger episodes with a week or two in between.
for as rough as beau is, she's caring, empathetic and nurturing when she needs to be..... being so gentle and soft with leading jester to molly's grave. I love it

That was one of the first things I thought when Caduceus stepped through the door! Can't wait
"Do you know Pumat Sol?"
I’m watching this for the first time, and all I can imagine is it just being slow and mellow and friendly and amazing.
The idea of Yasha being out cold this whole time only to wake and see his grave, her oldest companion of this group dead learning his fate in particular that scream imagined in my head is so heart wrenching more than anything. That moment I felt more than any other just far even if it wasn’t Ashley playing her for that.
My favorite part of this episode was when they were talking about Jester being ok, and Caleb just says authoritatively, "I think it is an act." He would know...
Poor fucking Caleb:
Takes a massive hit from Lorenzo
Spends the rest of the fight stumbling around
Keeps assuring himself the healers will be along any minute to help him
Never gets healed.
Frees his friend, the healer
Doesn't get healed

I adore the fact that Matt let Liam misuse the dome spell (only those who are already inside at the time of casting should be able to pass through) so that he didn't waste the spell, it's a really minor thing but a lot of DMs wouldn't have
As a wise former gnome and current goblin* once said: “Rule of Cool always beats rules as written”
That's how my DM tends to rule it as well. It can be a little annoying being like, “oh, they cant come in because they were searching this exact thing at this exact time,” so it just gets ruled that its who I invite in
I had a gm that let "experiment" things like that go on purpose, especially when it dealt with training without a proper teacher.
@@punketsu6222 I believe that's something the actual rulebook says, too.

He speaks as if its not a medical thing but any possible other reason. Amazing delivery
For extra IRL context, Marisha has hyperhidrosis. It's one of the reasons for her aversion to sleeves. She got an operation for it a few years before the stream started, but as I understand it that only helped with some specific body parts.
(Matt suffers from body dysmorphic disorder, so they probably grok each other's body-image issues pretty well.)
@@TimpanistMoth_AyKayEllnow that i know that, i love even more matt's response to nott when she ask if the gentlemen just got out of the shower : the gentleman response is nothing but confidence, he doesn't feel bad about this. This show is full of wholesome life lessons.

I've cried lots of tears over our favorite Circus Man. But hearing Jester ask "Where's Molly" hurt, and then "I heard you call for Molly" broke me again
You know it's a sad scene when Travis doesn't eye Matt with a funny face when he said "groggy" ;-;
However hard it may be for Taliesin to lose his character, it must be heartwarming to know so many people and friends have cried over their death, even real people crying over this character that you've made and embodied for so long. That's something you don't get to know once you die in real life.. Mollymauk was amazing. Taliesin should be so proud.
Jester and Nott helping Caduceus as he drinks alcohol for the first time, while Fjord, Beauregard and Caleb are having a somber heart to heart to heart in a back corner booth. I love how natural these characters are.

Beautiful.
I LOVE how Matt describes everything for Caduceus just as though he really hasn’t experienced any of this before. ❤️😭
This is important as it gives a chance for the new character to react, and it helps the actor picture it through 'new eyes' as it were. The first time hearing it, you interpret it through one set of eyes, but as another character, if it gets hand waived away, you miss out on that chance to react as the character would.
last couple episodes hurt... saying goodbye to a friend... lost two a couple years ago and this brought it back.
