Zebs was where I started many many moons ago now, great little characters but definitely a single species breeder by which I mean separated into cages or zeb only flights if breeding. Would love for you to do a video on line breeding, pros, cons etc. As this is always a massive debate between me and my fellow bird breeding friends, some who do, some who are massively against etc. All the best Chris.
@@birdnerd thanks Chris. Early doors this year but 7 young Goulds on the perch, 9 more in nests and more eggs being laid so hopefully it will be a good one 🤞
@@gouldianuk9875 I love to hear that. i am hoping for some similar success this year too. Having the big move last year really threw my gouldians through a loop.
Please don't inbreed them as they might inherit illnesses and malformations. Also, do more reserch on zebra finch mutations and their inheritance. Thanks
I had zebra finches and honestly their song was annoying- Kind of a cross between a kazoo and laser tag, lol. Personality wise, they were too skittishly nervous in my opinion. In your opinion, are the society finches more calm and laid back in temperament? Also, it would be great if you could do a video discussing the different types of finches in case someone is trying to decide on getting one as a pet?
If male is grey with black cheeks then all chicks would be grey and males would have orange cheeks. That's because white is recessive to grey and black cheek is recessive to the orange cheek grey males have. .if the white hen carries the black cheek gene though you may get some black cheeks. Also if male carries white genes you may get some white chicks. Grey's often carry recessive colours.
I have also been pondering about getting a pair or two, but I would much rather try to get the more uncommon Sunda zebra finch (Taeniopygia guttata) rather than the bigger Australian zebra finch (Taeniopygia castanotis) Have you any experience with the Sunda zebra finch?
I have not had any experience with them. I have not even seen one in person. Not sure if we even have a breeding population of them in the United States.
I’ve had a pair of males for a yr got them young but can’t keep them together ( they didn’t want to be separated!) but the larger brother wants to breed with the other and stripped feathers from head and back of the smaller brother! I’m afraid to ever have them together again even with females! Any ideas on this turn of events? Thanks for your videos!👍
Bred these for 4 decades, still do. I have kept and bred 98% of all the mutations.
Very cool. They are great birds to have

Great idea. I’ll see
What I can put together. Thanks and best of luck to you this year.

I Love the black cheek morphs! Hoping to raise some soon!
Thank you.
Because they are cheap in my country, easy to breed and available in large numbers .the mutations is better than normal

My first pet birds was Zebras 🥰

My comment went in as a reply to shanarrosh🙄
I love zebra finches, penguin mutation my favorite.
Yes that is a very attractive mutation of zebra finch.
What nest box you use for all your cages ? Is it on Amazon?
Most of my nest boxes are standard finch boxes that you can buy at most pet stores or on amazon
I've bought my finchies every bird box but they prefer to sleep in there seed box lol
What mutation will you get of you cross a full white female and a black cheek male?
If male is grey with black cheeks then all chicks would be grey and males would have orange cheeks. That's because white is recessive to grey and black cheek is recessive to the orange cheek grey males have. .if the white hen carries the black cheek gene though you may get some black cheeks. Nice man how are they
They are doing great
Do you sell any? And can they be shipped? Safely shipped?
I do sell my birds. I don’t currently ship but yes birds can be shipped safely.
@@birdnerd OK. But, It is too far. I am basically, in Florida.
the mom and son got pregnant are the eggs gonna be fine or should i remove them
They are nice birds but having the option between them or the canaries. I would chose the canaries every time.

You have three male and one female it's in grey
update on the finches?
Can you house zebra finches with parakeets? Thanks
It’s not usually the best to house parakeet with any finches as the parakeets can get nippy and injure the finches.
Hey bird nerd why don’t you buy Yorkshire canary
Your BB Hen looks split to BC.
That is what I am hoping for.
