Well Pikmin can be considered a Farming game if you think about it hard enough. Link was also a farmer at the beginning of twilight princess so we got the full blown farming direct experience
Sony is going in a bold direction with no farming rpgs on the roster. It really is a shame to see them so out of touch with the wants and desires of gamers.
Best part about this is that they announced pikmin in that direct. You know.... The game where you fight by effectively pulling plants out of the ground.
I remember seeing a comment saying "They didn't show the title for Tears of the Kingdom during the UK direct because the Queen had just died." Which honestly is just the most coincidental thing I've ever heard when it comes to naming a videogame.

I kinda think that Game Devs loved the idea of Farming Sims because of the impact Animal Crossing had when the pandemic hit, and it has created a small surge of similar simulation games that aren't story-driven or lore-heavy, similar enough to other games like Stardew Valley, Story of Seasons(Harvest Moon), Minecraft, The Sims where there isn't a lot of finality in choices or severity in them, being more Chill and Relaxing, rather than ominous and intimidating. Also WTF do we have to complain and make comparisons, it's like that old argument that Playstation and Xbox are for "Real Gamers" and that Nintendo make "Kiddie Games". It's so bizarre to see something similar to that resurfacing a bit. We should just celebrate the fact that a lot of great games have released this year a few lot more will release in the next few months before the year ends. I kinda hate it this Sony vs Nintendo since I love both and the games they have even if I can't afford both a Switch and a PS4 nevermind the fact that it seems that there is a shortage of PS5 stock.

Squeenix churns out too many game, generic games, for Dunkey's claims about AI to be false. Seriously, that studio is huge, but there are other, bigger companies that spew less. And they don't care one bit about any of it. If you develop a game with a story, you have places and people and events in place that you could use to inspire a thematic title, but they go with dumb shit like "Triangle Strategy." Cuz yeah, it's about something but they don't know or care what it is.
As a farmer, I appreciate the fact that on my limited time off during the day I can sit back and play a farming video game and immerse myself in farming because that defines me. ~Farmson Farmington the third.

Well no Harvest Moon has been getting games since the 90s and Stardew Valley is directly inspired by it and Rune Factory, the original rpg dating sim farming sim that is actually a fantastic game and everyone should play

What makes this farming game presentation even better is that Harvest Moon 64 was also announced for the Switch’s Virtual Console in Japan on the same day.
For most of the Direct the focus was on farming games and Square JRPGs, but when they showed the farming JRPG developed by Square that was when they really caught my attention.
I liked that they showed off the new farming mechanics of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I really think that this is unexplored territory for Nintendo, introducing farming as a whole extra side game to a portable platform such as the Nintendo Switch is a smart move to step in on an entirely untapped market.
You joke, but if there is not a mechanic for improving your relationship with Zelda after finally saving her, I'm going to give the game only 9.9/10 so help me God.

I felt the exact same way about this entire direct, but that gasp at the end... that was me doing that. I missed out on botw when it came out and I'm gonna try to play it now despite the fact that I'm not good at video games, but even then i still get hype for new games
Frankly I don't think they care that much about the names. Not to mention the Times New Roman titles being practically identical in terms of logo design make more sense when you think of them as the same series
So glad to see that Nintendo has finally given us the farming, fishing, and town simulation gameplay that only completely obscure games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing have done up until now. Truly an innovation in the field of pre-2016 gameplay.

Really looking forward to God of War: Ragnarok. I was surprised that the devs decided to go with the very niche genre of action game. It’ll be hard for Kratos to compete with all these quality farm life simulation RPGs. I respect that bold design choice. A lesser developer would have chosen the safe option and gone with a God of War farm life simulation RPG. Although, narratively it would be difficult for God of War to go down the popular route of farm life simulation RPG. I’m pretty sure Kratos has murdered quite a few harvest gods / goddesses.
Due to the upcoming global food shortage, Nintendo has got the ball rolling by making everyone who plays on their consoles subconsciously accept the farming lifestyle to come. Excellent work as usual.

edit: nintendo had the better direct by a lot. the suspense actually had me sitting at the edge of my seat. "is it going to be another farming game?!", "there's no fucking way " totally stole the show. just when i thought it was over, always. never felt more alive

what's happened here is just like the year we got like 5 soulslikes and the year we got seventeen roguelikes. All of the slow developers have finally finished their starview valley-likes (including disney)

Really looking forward to God of War: Ragnarok. I was surprised that the devs decided to go with the very niche genre of action game. It’ll be hard for Kratos to compete with all these quality farm life simulation RPGs. I respect that bold design choice. A lesser developer would have chosen the safe option and gone with a God of War farm life simulation RPG. Although, narratively it would be difficult for God of War to go down the popular route of farm life simulation RPG. I’m pretty sure Kratos has murdered quite a few harvest gods / goddesses.
Plot twist the new god of war game is really a farming game LOL.
