  • What makes a great silage pit/clamp loader driver? We think we’ve pretty much found it all here in one, and we think you’ll agree when we say Kevin Finn from Galway seems to tick a lot of the boxes.
    Thank you to Enda Sweeney and his silage crew for the opportunity to produce this clip.
    Produced by FlyBy Photos Using our state of the art Drones our pilots keeps the camera moving with the action enabling us to capture outstanding footage form angles which are simply not possible for the hand held camera.

    He's doing a fantastic job in a tight/square space. Building the stack beatifully, and I liked how he 'walked' that whole load up. It could do with better compacting though I think

    1. Pushing the full load at once, doesn't matter its what the driver finds the handiest
    2. Cleaning the radiator? When it's to hot it says to the driver that it is over heating so the driver doesn't need to keep an eye on the tempreture

    Boy can put up a pit, no question. In theory all the comments about the banks not getting packed are absolutely right.... yet I've put up enough pits the same way this dude is doing.... including my own at home, and as long as it's covered well there's not any more waste then with a mole heap, it does work.

    how about rolling the clamp - the most important part of silage making? Keep the pitch forks handy boys! you're gonna need to fork a lot of water off the top in the winter!!

    • @SDTransport
      @SDTransport Před 8 lety

      Yep. I'd lose every customer if I left piles that loose. Oxygen is the enemy in silage. especially for the small farms where every ton has to count.

  • @MegaBomboloni

    wouldn't it be easier if there would be concrete walls on the side, so you just have to push the silage to the walls.

    Nice video - by coincidence, my neighbour asked me to film him collecting some silage at the beginning of July - looks like I missed out on capturing the best bit. Check my video out. Which quad are you using? I assume you had fpv hooked up - you kept the action nicely framed throughout. So far I'm sticking to line of site for my quad videos - nice when it works, but a bit hit/miss sometimes.

      Mikeo Sullivan it's actually better with single tires. You need as much weight as possible on one spot, by adding dual wheels you spread the weight out. So you have to drive over it more often to get the same result

    Nice, tidy job by a skilled driver and call me pernickety but.....
    The edges are not compacted in any serious way and they are way too steep to cover properly. This means that there will be huge wastage on the sides. Either reduce the steepness of the sides (difficult in that small space) or build some walls that the loader can compact the silage against.
    Also, that just isn't safe! Slip of the foot on the throttle or miss the brake and you've caused a lot of damage to an expensive loader. Hopefully that's all the damage done.
