Dane Whitman, played by Kit Harrington in Eternals, barely got any screen time, but his Marvel Comics counterpart, the Black Knight, is actually a really weird and interesting character!

A brooding, dark wearing, mystical sword carrying hero, who doesn't want all that power... So Kit Harrington, you were made for the role, plus you get to hang out with Blade now too, you're set for life!
Nice to see you here!
That description sounds super familiar. Like that character description has lots of potential to be great in a manga that's set in a medieval setting where demons and eldritch god like entities manipulating the world for their purposes that we know very little about. The character definitely has 1 eye and his amputated arm is replaced by a prosthetic arm with a cannon on it. He also carries a big sword, crossbow and is literally too angry to die. I mean this character could literally out anger the world breaker hulk. He may not be as strong as the hulk but his anger and hatred is exponentially greater than the hulk's anger could ever be. Now i'm interested in this story.

Something funny is that the most relevance the Black Knight had before the implied origin in Eternals was an appearance of Sir Percy and Nathan in Lego Marvel Superheroes 2
I feel that since Dane is in the MCU now they need to do a movie or series that shows the history of his family with flashbacks to the King Arthur days of Sir Percy. Especially since Arthur & Excalibur are MCU canon as mentioned in Eternals. Also please do a video on Dane's history as well as one on the multiple Black Knights in the comics. I know of Dane, Percy, Nathaniel Garrett, Eobard Garrington, & Augustus du Lac.
Hell, they could have his uncle Nathan be one of Hank's old enemies back when he was Ant-Man.
Hold up - there's a guy called Eobard OUTSIDE of Reverse Flash?!
@@Abominatrix650 literally I thought that name doesn't exist at all other than the reverse flash
7:35 Wearing a jacket over armor isn't actually that unreasonable. There are lots of accessories that are worn over armor, for example a "Surcoat" is basically a jacket over armor. Aside from looking fabulous it helped you tell whether the angry suit of armor was friend for foe.
I like the look, but I have to agree that Marvel one was as 90's as it could be, definitely not in a positive way.
I feel like they could do something really interesting with him in the MCU if they decide to adapt the Proctor saga
Wink wink
The answer to the title: The single greatest character in the history of comics. No arguments will be heard at this time.
I actually disagree with Drake's opinions on the Leather Jacket era, the Gatherers Saga and the story of Bloodwraith are both good reads, and his time with Sersi is dramatic and tragic. Oddly well written for the 90s.
Your right black knight is the best I love him so much 10/10
My argument:
Kite Man.
Hell yeah.
I can get behind that. And yes!!! The leather jacket look is amazing and Iconic
In theory, absolutely! If Marvel knew what to do with him, he’d be amongst the S tier heroes easily
So, the ebony blade is the berserker armor, but it's a sword
Black knight is one of the best characters Marvel has, but yes criminally underused
Not gonna lie I think we’re gonna see him soon adapting his struggle to retain his sanity he’ll be a fan favourite in the MCU people already find him fun
Gotta give it to him - the Black Knight's got the drip.
The coolest Marvel character in existence that's who he is!
I am hoping we do get to see black knight in more of the mcu some day.
Came back after eventually watching Eternals. I'd watched this months back and I felt so hyped as the realisation slowy dawned on me when I remembered where I'd heard the character's name before in the movie. So hyped to see him brought to the big screen!
I just watched a ton of videos of yours and I really like your channel. I dig the videos' topics, the humour in them and just how everything is presented. What I also really appreciate is how you handle rather controversal topics, and while I often have the same opinion as you, I'm glad about the way that you respect everybody's different opinions, sort of in the style of "agree to disagree", which is really rare in 2021. Just keep going the way you do, appreciate your work!
Started reading curse of the ebony blade. Love the book. Hope Marvel keeps Dane relevant and gives him some new stories. Definitely a character with a lot of cool potential
[ETERNALS SPOILERS BELOW]
It's funny because that one scene in Eternals had me like "Look dude I get it. If I was dating someone who looks like Gemma Chan I too would pick up arms against a being powerful enough to be a God to try and save her but unless that thing can kill one I think you're up a creek."
Looks like Dane is gonna do just fine.
Man I just wanna see what kinds of cool shit they do with Dane Whitman
Since they're probably going to redo the character like they've been doing to lesser known characters in the MCU for years, I'd love to see what kinda of character explorations we could see with a character like the Black Knight.
We only get a small taste of what Dane is like as a person, so seeing the potential of the character is fascinating to me.
3:00 Meanwhike Spyder-Knight from the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon has the town crier, JJJ's son to deal with.
I am pretty sure that they know pretty well what they're going to do with him in the MCU. That's why they employed Kit Harington for the role. It has a great future in the movies.
I'm kind of surprised they haven't faced him off (to my knowledge) against Marvel's most famous dragon character, Fin Fang Foom. You'd think that's such an obvious thing to do.
Would love to have more videos on this character. I’m interested in seeing what the MCU does with him.
Damn I kinda want to see a medieval Spider-man-esque Black Knight movie or show now
I read Captain Britain and MI13 and honestly enjoyed it. I liked the depiction of Dane Whitman there. I think Faiza Hussain also has so much potential as a character and think they have good chemistry together. It would be nice to see the both of them used more.
GRRM is a big fan of Black Knight and even referenced in ASOIAF through the character of Arthur Dayne.
I just thought that was interesting considering Kit Harrington is playing him.
For real that's awsome Black Knight's one of my favorites!
So what I'm learning is that the Ebony Blade in Skyrim is actually a super deep cut reference to the Black Knight.
Yes when I played skyrim I knew who Marvel's BK was and was like hold up lol
I hope they delve further into the more complicated nuances of his relationship with Sersi, like that time she essentially made him her celestial-soul-mate without his consent when she started going crazy and everyone but him thought, “…this is okay…”
A running theme for the Avengers. *_cough, cough_* Avengers #200 *_cough_*
She is borderline obsessed with him in the comics
I just don't get how he's not used more in solo series'. The ebony blade is on par with mjolnir, all-black, cap's shield, Logan's claws and the iron man suits as one of the coolest weapons around and you can do a lot with exploring how Dane struggles to stay good with a weapon that draws him to be more evil. Also it gave us a panel of Thor not being able to lift it which is great 😂
The blade cameo during the end credit scene was makes me so excited for the future of this character
Great video, would love to see the deep dive sometime.
The Black Knight is one of my all-time favourite characters 😙👌 I was so excited to see that he'd be in the Eternals, hopefully we see him in his full potential later on down the line
Great video, Drake!
Gosh I love the lore and history here. Would love and I mean LOVE a complete history video
One of my favourite characters as a kid. So excited to finally see them in the mcu!
I am very interested on what the Black Knight. Thank you Drake.
PLEASE DO ONE ON ALL THE BRAINIACS!!! I’m killing myself searching for this information.
What?! The jacket on the armor is siiiick juxtaposition. Love itttt
My brother definitely made his high school email address Black Knight themed... I'm so proud
5:45 So what you're saying is this blade (which can cut through just about everything) Takes all of your angst and uses it for its own power? I guess that'd make you some kind of edge lord, huh?
That's crazy, a comic panel wit She Hulk, Black knight & Monica Rambeau Cpt Marvel . Now we're gonna hopefully be able to see them together live action
Black Knight is so cool I hope they do him well in the MCU.
Cmon man the leather jacket is pretty cool!
Roy Thomas getting love in a Comic Drake video? Thats great man!
Can we get a Hit Monkey video I feel like I’m going in circles trying to find information on him
A deep dive would be wonderful. Black Knight is really interesting.
I would really like to see the Ebony Blade fill the roll of Knull’s All Black the necrosword. Avengers King in Black would be crazy!
A sword that's said by the creator of the symbiotes, God of the void to be powerful enough to destroy entire universes, able to resurrect its owner so long as they have Arthur's blood, can cut through anything and everything. Thats pretty fucking awesome. They really need to do a sequel to the eternals, give kits black knight his own movies, connect it to the rest of the mcu where he meets people like doctor strange and have him join the fight against kang. It would be very interesting if he turns out to be the trump card that ends kang given how powerful his sword is.
He would give it all up for ‘Muh queen’, ‘I dernt wernt eet’
whenever id see this guy in big events id always be like whos this medieval guy with a sword so its nice to know a bit more about him
I don’t know why but he’s been one of my favorites for a while
Wow what a complicated but fascinating character
Speaking of the black knight, can you do a video about the abilities of his most popular weapon, the ebony blade?
Oh it interests me, I’m sold
when I first got into Marvel and saw Black Knight, I fell in love instantly. He's so cool and underused it's borderline criminal. And out of all the jacket wearing heroes, he is one of the few who really made it his own and I want him to keep it. Let zoomers complain, I don't care, I love that leather jacket wearing edgelord.
I remember reading avengers comics in the 90s and fell in love he has one of the coolest comic book looks
now i am curious about a potential storyline exploring the time between the lady of the lake and the return of the ebony blade. End result, he either becomes a dual wielder, or the corruption of the ebony blade clashed with the holy power bestowed by the lady of the lake, and due to the blood bond with the ebony blade, the corruption could not be purged and for one reason or another he had to give up the other sword. Either way there is potential for a unique story, just as long as the character doesnt fall apart in the process.
Please do a complete history of the black knight
More Black Knight please🙏
Black Knight character is like Mike Moorcock character from his books about the black sword storm bringer
Good thing Hulk didn't get his hands on that sword.
For more swords and magic DC's Princess Amethyst had a few incredibly short animated shorts that from what I hear is radically different from her comic origin. (the shorts basically made her an anime magical girl)
I literally showed a picture of Hulk with the Ebony Blade cutting through a time ray in this video.
@@ComicDrake That was Hulk? Didn't recognize him without his pants.
I feel like there's opportunity here for Marvel to roll up all of Dane's history together and position him as a really cool cosmic character. Especially since he's left the multiverse before and defends a magical realm. I could easily see him appearing alongside characters like Dr. Strange and Silver Surfer.
I was playing the guardians of the galaxy game and when ruby thursday showed up i had no clue she was an already existing character.
I would love to see a video explaining her because shes apparently important enough to get her own bio in the compendium.
Im just putting that idea out there in case drake reads this.
Pls more of black knight.
just saw you were wearing the roxas necklace heck yeah
Are you saying Monty python black knight wasn’t a threat because King Arthur was the one running away
More Black Knight please
Welp, glad this was uploaded the day AFTER I spent an entire night reading Black Knight comics to find out everything about him
I'm sure we would all love an in depth look on the history of the Eternals by you
This might legitimately be a really great character for kit harington to play!
Hahaha, that hover bike
A lot of what you are getting at are the result of not knowing what to do with Dane. I mean this playing around with there power sets is an ongoing problem in the Avengers (Clint Barton has had a number of different personas (used pym particles to become Goliath, Tony built him a powered suit, his time as Ronin), Wanda kept getting power upgrades, Monica Rambeau got a power downgrade and then went back up, Wasp had a period where she went more insect like, Hank Pym has gone through super hero persona and power sets (my personal favorite was where he carried around a ridiculous arsenal of stuff that he had miniaturized with pym particles)). The writers seem to have characters with powers that don't inspire the creative team so the power sets get changed. Heck, even the Ebony Blades cursed has changed in the character's history. Wasn't it turning Dane into a metal statue at one point in the Avengers?
Great character and a really cool legacy that i hope gets a plus show or a good showing in moon knight, blade or eternals 2
He is the White Wolf, THE KING IN THE NORTH
I liked him in “Captain Britain and the MI 13.”
Same! I actually think he fits best with Captain Britain than with Avengers
Bring on the whole history Drake
The only thing I know about the black knight is that someone on the LEGO Avengers team really liked him because there were 3 versions of him in that game
I actually am quite fond of the era when Dane wore the leather jacket 😅
Thank you for finally giving this guy the props he deserves. Always been one of my fav characters (yes, even during the jacket & multiverse hopping days). Hope you can get around to a deep dive 1 day. But in the meantime I think I'll have to pick up cCurse of the Ebony Blade" for a quick fix. 😃
you should a lot of comical artist uses a concept of the Multiverse that Michael wrote in his books based on Al in the black sword StormeBringer
And black night has not touched his father sword it's just displayed in the office
*Gorr wants his sword back now!!!*
i hope moving forward the black knight has a bit more of a spotlight put on him
Soo... a broody hero with a cursed black sword that feeds on blood? Kinda sounds like Elric of Melniboné with Stormbringer.
I've always thought the original Vision was inspiration for Sleepwalker. 4:26
I see you with that Roxas necklace.
They already had Knull set up some more potential for the blade. Since Dane is a man of science and magic and doesn’t know the potential of the blade they need to bring in Dr. Doom to level him up just like he did with the beyonder.
When I was a kid (in the 90's) collecting Marvel cards, I remember liking The Black knight a lot...because of the lightsaber. I had never read any of his comics but he and Gambit were my doods.
P.S. Gambit is still my dood.
Ooh! I'm now excited for Jon Snow in the MCU!
My main takeaway from this video is that we need a Sir Percival revival series
I actually want to read Black Knight, mainly I love his costume, and I love swords.
His costumes low key underrated
Is Kate Carrington's character from Eternals? He meets blade at the end of eternal cake. Carrington Jon Snow is black Knight.
Will you do a Nova video?
I need to read some Black Knight comics.
a super powerfull magic black sword that compels the wielder to kill. Hello Stormbringer. Also the necrosword is also stormbringer
that's why Blade show up in the Eternals
The sword sounds like the same thing in the new Conan comics
It is Percival that had the Excalibur
Tis but a scratch
Fun fact: In lego marvel superheroes 2 he says "tis but a scratch" while respawning
Should make something about Maya Lopez since she's coming to MCU and is a lesser known character.
ayyyy i see that necklace
