Grow Turmeric in permaculture Garden for.a Big Harvest!

  • This video shows how Manisha, the founder of Aanandaa Permaculture Farm, plants her turmeric each year. Usually, farmers, harvest their turmeric, keep the seed aside, and replant it several months later. However, Manisha replants her turmeric the day she harvests it!
Yes, she sorts the turmeric right after harvesting and buries the mother stock back into the ground, when the soil is still fresh and fluffy from the harvest. At the same time, she sows onions along with the turmeric and thereby does temporal stacking. Onions are harvested by May, and turmeric will grow only in August when the monsoon becomes quite heavy.
In this video, she shows which parts of the turmeric to keep as seed, and which part to process for turmeric powder. She then takes you to the bed from which the haldi was harvested, and demonstrates how to sow the turmeric back into the ground!
We hope this video will teach you how to plant turmeric in your own backyard or garden. Thanks for stopping by, stay safe xx

Thanks a lot. These days I don't work so much in the garden, as the videos and courses etc take up much of my time. But yes, when I started working in the gardens, for the first 10 years, I did a lot of work myself.

This was a very informative video. I have been waiting for it.
Can we sow the market bought haldi which has no roots attached to it in a similar way and at this time of the year?
Secondly, I just curious to know if we can do the same thing for growing other similar vegetables like arbi/taro?
I have seen taro beds in your previous videos. Can you please make a video on that also. I am a beginner garden who is learning a lot from you.
    Keep up the good work.

Also, when we plant new seeds do we have to till/ do gudaai for the soil. Please explain how to plant and identify new seeds when the soil is covered with mulch.
Would also appreciate a video about companion planting, intercropping, multilayering along with permaculture for a front lawn area.

The method is wrong mam. Do not keep turmeruc under level just place in a line and then cover with soil and make line so that it would be easy to take turmeric out.
