Who could imagine what it was like buying Freakout because of the strange cover, not having ever heard of The Mothers of Invention. I can. I was 15 years old and it changed my life. To this day I know the lyrics by heart. Frank is in my DNA and very welcome there.

Tears are rolling down my cheeks. This is so much of my school days, in the late 1970's, 7th 8th 9th grade. I got introduced to the music of Zappa by my older sister and her boyfriend who was a dj and a crazy funny guy himself. And these students are so wonderfully free and happy with such a wonderful teacher as Trever who is giving the youngsters such a great gift of exploring the genious if Frank Zappa and his philosophy of being yourself and having fun and a laugh at it all. I coild just go on and on.
What a great inspirational teacher! And being so involved and engaging, and giving so much of himself it's just pure love. Of course the other teachers and parents as well. I'm just all choked up from this experience of watching this video.
I do love my upbringing and all I experienced at 13 14 15 years old, but I do wish we would have had more of this free loving and inspirational atmosphere in school.
I was also assigned the trumpet in school when I actually would have wanted to learn guitar or drums, as all boys did.
I made up for this on the side of course, tinkering with electric guitars, building amplifiers, fuzz boxes and stuff with my friends. Creating a band and had so much fun, still have lots and lots of 4 track tapes from that time. But, as said, I do wish one had had more of this inspirational guidance as demonstrated in this fantastic video! Peace.

Tears always run down my face when I think of Frank. I started listening to him at 13 yo in 73, When the band opened with Penguin and hit that first note was my musical epiphany, I was struck by lightning by that not.I saw Fank over 30 times from 73-88 always in NYC or very close.Saw him every Halloween he played in NYC.

~25 years of dancing about architecture (writing about music) was borne from chasing down Zappa band members (Belew, Ike, Vai, Bozzio, Colaiuta, Wackerman, Keneally, even Dweezil and "Vaultmeister" Joe Travers). Recently watched a concert and now this. Does my heart well. Thank you.

I think what should mainly be remembered about Frank Zappa is his continual attempt to make us look at things with our own eyes and not letting others think in our stead. Frank was an anti-conformist and a realist thinker, and used humor and satire to ease the swallowing of the truth he was trying to expose. And yes I'm glad that his vision, without which most of his musical experimentation would possibly not have kept its relevance over time, is in good hands. We, as a specie, need more cynical geniuses like Frank.

This doc made me cry,how strange ,a mixture of memories of being this young and constantly playing Zappa knowing every nuance of every lp and knowing then this guy was what's known as a genius, the most overused word was apt here, now all these years later watching this filled me with so much emotion , there is a truth to some music that just cuts through ALL the bullshit and Frank Zappa lived by this ,his music is only just begining.

Frank was never really played on the radio outside of Scandinavia (!), and without that vital outlet for his music,
his legacy has been threatened for years to become forgotten by people who aren't old-timers or musicians in the know.
Most of the time, if you meet someone under the age of 30 who's familiar with the Zappa name, what they do know
is that he wrote funny lyrics about sex. And many of them are also under the impression that he must've been high to
write such "weird" music, which couldn't be further from the truth.
Anyway, given how accomplished this music is and what an achievement it was for Frank to write so damn much of it
without it really losing any quality over the years, it would be criminal to see it be forgotten.
Zappa Plays Zappa do a great job of keeping the flame alive, but they're just one band and can't be everywhere.
And given the complexity of the music, it's not something that a lot of tribute bands would dare touch, or could do
justice. So that's why it's so great to see someone passionate like Trevor who cares about this stuff, bringing it to
    the kids.
It teaches people to REALLY play, it opens up a lot of ears and minds in the audience, and it ensures that this timeless
    music doesn't have a sell-by-date.
Frank wrote music in pretty much every conceivable genre, so there should be something for everyone.
Let's remember that and remind others!

The song Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy really has it all. I grin every time I hear it. It's soo rich with so much going on that first-time listeners miss the whole story played out in the song. Only Frank could compose a song about somebody who enjoys being stomped on by plastic leather shoes. The guitar solo on that tune is a facemelter.

He worked tirelessly for decades, she stayed away and they made it work.

A good job done by all. It's important that FZ's music lives on not just for audiences, but especially that it's now a part of all these students who will carry with them whatever aspects strike their fancy to whatever projects they'll be involved with for the rest of their lives. That's really how music survives through time.
And for all the old FZ fans like myself who just love it when bands today take on his pieces, there is a band I'm surprised nobody's mentioned in the first 147 comments. All these students are doing a great job and I don't take anything away from them, but they are still students. For over twenty five years some of the finest professionals in New York (read: the world) have been continuously been performing and recording FZ as a big band. It's the Ed Palermo Big Band and they're easy to find on CZcams, as well as having several albums still in print. Much of it is FZ material outright, and he also weaves FZ lines and ideas into other's compositions as a mash up.
Should Mr. Veilleux read this, you might enjoy contacting Ed. He too is an educator, and an all around nice guy. There's no telling what kind of good could come of it. You can email him at his website.

For some reason my Grandad knew who Frank was and what he represented... I grew respecting freedom and Intelligent creativity. This is what Frank and his music represent to these people. Good in a world where it easier to start a war than a Jazz group we need these people. All hail freedom... After all its free.. Don't costnowt.. I'm sorry but you can try to imitate frank's sound and it it will never be what it was. Especially Frank's guitar tone and style of playing the entire fretboard never reapeating himself twice. Good on them for keep his music alive.

Zappa's music without FZ's involvement always just sounds... I dunno, like a recital or something. (There are of course exceptions, like when Mike Keneally played Inca Roads on an acoustic guitar.)

Fantastic!! Really well done, congrats to all involved. This is a great way for young up and coming musos to not only experience what it's like playing in a big band but to also to be playing challenging music of the caliber of Zappa's whilst also preserving the music of Frank that people don't usually get a chance to experience in a live setting like this. Great work by all of you and thank you for such a great doco, you should all be very proud.

If you like this kind of musical expérience by amateurs, watch Swing Girls, a japaneese movie, amateurs, beginners forming a swing orchestra. A good movie, funny too.
