    I really enjoyed this video and technique. So I got some foil transfer stuff and gave it a try. What I ended up with is not bad at all, but I wouldn't say it looks like an opal; more like milky quartz, and one of my thumbnails -- which was actually the first one I did, my right thumb so I had to do it with my left hand -- actually looks exactly like white marble! So they look good, even if not the design I was trying for -- opals, because my husband just gave me an opal necklace and earrings for my birthday in May.
    So I'll mount some of my fake nails to the the little magnetic stands and keep trying! This technique is much easier than any of the other ones I found for opals, and I already had everything I needed for it, except the foil transfer stuff. The main problem I keep having is making the nail too thick, from all the repeated coats. If I wanted to get a thinner coat, would it help if I dip the brush in acetone before dipping into the color?

    Wow this is such a different way of creating a gem stone effect. I’ve never seen people use foils before. It’s absolutely stunning. Truly a thing of beauty. Thanks so much for sharing this with us

    Credible opal! Layers are important. Thank you. Such good work!
    The only tweak I might add would be to use some hard gel "builder in a bottle" on top and then file and buff to even up the final surface. Could also use it in an intermediate layer to add more depth..

    Can I substitute topcoat for the transfer gel foil? Beautiful nails btw! ❤️❤️❤️

    • @lunamothnails
      @lunamothnails  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you so much! If the topcoat has a sticky layer then yes. I’m not sure it will work as well with a no-wipe topcoat. If you don’t want to get the transfer gel, a lot of nail artists use a generic foil glue that air dries. It’s a nice low-cost option and it can be found on Amazon or eBay.

    Gorgeous opal...how much would you charge for a set like this? I'd like to add this to my services because it's so beautiful

    • @lunamothnails
      @lunamothnails  Před 2 lety +1

      Because of the time and all the layers and products used, I personally would charge $10-12 per nail just for the design. That’s not including the base cost of enhancements or gel polish. I recommend breaking down your own product costs and time spent on the design to come up with a price you’re comfortable with.

      @@lunamothnails oh absolutely..I've been a nail tech for 32 years but got very burnt out and let my liscense lapse, I was slammed every day for years but I was in downtown Charlotte NC, all banking woman and very conservative so I never had the time to learn nail art or design..so I got my license back this year and have been learning the more advanced techniques, but not sure how much to charge, especially since I'm not 💯 just yet, plus my timing is still not on point, so I just needed a starting point..the ladies I have started doing would love this so much...sorry about the life story 🤣, just trying to learn all I can. Even if you get burned out by doing nails, keep doing them on some level because you will loose your edge, I never thought I could loose my ability as I was on competition level as far as acrylic application..it's taken me a year just to get back to an ok level...anyway, thank you so much for answering me back, I love your work, God bless you always 💗
