Gabe, it warms my heart to see how intentional you are in having Luke and Jake share these times with you. You are building a great foundation for them to draw from as they grow older. I know it is a rhetorical question but the answer is so interesting I just have to give it. The reason you have a hard time hitting fish that are close to you but not far away is do to refraction. I wish I could give exact numbers for adjusting your aim to hit fish but anything dissolved in the water can change the index of refraction or how far the light bends. the angle you are looking at the fish also drastically changes how far the light bends. The closer fish are being observed at a steeper angle and that means their shift in position is a lot more then the father away fish making it an easier shot.
Luke in the background at 7:15 cracks me up. That snakehead still had some kick!

I bow fish quit a bit and find the line frays after shooting a number of fish. Like fishing check. Your line and retire. The largest was 55 lb amour(grass carp).

Hint of advice. Water deflection you have to aim 2.5 to 3 inches below the fish. Same applies to spear fishing

I've recommended your channel to everyone I know who likes the outdoors,...even my brother who has 4 boys that we take fishing and camping (and scare the life out of the younger boys with our Sabe/Sasquatch/Bigfoot stories, no lie, I've had two really weird encounters). My Brother and I chat every now and then on the phone and after the normal stuff the conversation generally turns to "Did you see where Gabe and Kelly are now?" or something along those lines. I just subscribed recently after I discovered Kelly’s channel 1st and have been binge watching since yesterday (05/31/22) can’t seem to git enuff. My surprise is how you guys are keeping it clean and family dedicated are very much appreciated. Trust me when I say I use harsh language daily but I watch and listen to content like yours and I appreciate it more for some strange reason. I just moved to North Carolina from Florida (Tampa Bay Area) and I miss it dearly. I think you guys are doing a great job(all your family and friends) and I don’t see any reason or issues from u-tube to take down any of your vids. And I also didn’t notice anything wrong with the videos with your son taken down that hog …. Go figger?!? Please keep up the good work that you guys do!
Bluegabe, are you considering the parallax effect of light thru water? Been an archer for over 50 years and found the light bending as it passes into water throws off your ability to line up the shot accurately. What I suggest is you aim a bit low to compensate for that. Seemed to work for me. Cheers.

and I’m told there’s been a few snakeheads caught in the river, but I’ve never caught one yet. The invasive fish we
here in our waterways is the carp. Some call them yellow carp or mirror carp, I just call em ugly carp. NOT fit to eat.
We get these things to eat shiners all the time in Coral Springs....throw shiners up ahead of you along the banks of these residential canals and you're bound to get one pretty quick. They're everywhere in Springs.

I find it funny when they call them non native, not because they aren’t but because they’ve been here for over 40yrs because I use to catch all of them when I was young in Ft.Lauderdale growing up. To me they are native now.
