Ma'am, what a fantastic video you took! I'm currently on Active Duty in Germany,, was offered to buy a 1996 C180 Benz...crank no start! Shot some ether (?) into intake, motor fired. Fuel pump relay clicked behind batt in trunk, no pump noise. Faulty fuel pump. No will change it out my self thanks to your amazing video! Thank you. 👊
Awesome tutorial, I had my "mechanic boy" jacket on, thinking I knew exactly where to find it. Looked under the seats and more probable places to find it, "well fuel pumps should always be easily accessible, RIIIIGHT?", and was I wrong... Then I saw your vid and I was like "wow no way how can it be", then my dad and his ego together went on to find exactly what I did, trying to search for that "easily accessible" fuel pump, then I shoed him his vid, surprise surprise he thought the same I did. Actually took the initiative to look for it at the place stated in your vid (was my dad against it...), and there it was. Thank you so much for this vid.
I need to now do this on my 99 C43 and this great vid will help a lot. Very thankful that the pump is not in the gas tank like so many cars. Thanks for the vid!
Needle nose pliers with a set of vice grips on them also work as a good clamp Also my pump has 2 inlets I’m guessing one is a return line for excess pressure/fuel but now i get to wait 4 more days since literally none of the parts stores sell the correct pump for my car HFP-433 is the part number of anyone else runs into this issue
To prevent the massive amount of fuel which is under pressure start the car if you can and disconnect the pump relay, that is only if the pump still works but may be weak.
Or remove the fuel pump fuse next to the battery in the trunk. Then when the engine dies out, depress the pressure relief valve on the fuel rail on the engine block. It's behind a brass cap.
That's awesome that you got this job done yourself, but you really must wear protective gloves+sleeves when working around gas like that. Gasoline permeates through human skin like air through a screen door. You won't feel anything immediately, but it's very hard on your kidneys, and some compounds in gasoline settle in the soft tissue around your joints, and cause chronic problems later in life.
@@jamesmcguire6706 That source is going to have to be me. 30 years ago in an auto shop class I took at JC they showed a film about the various hazards of working on cars and they showed a some kind of x-ray movie that actually displayed the progress of gasoline permeating this guy's hand. I'm sure you could research it further if you were so inclined, though common sense it's a good idea to try and keep fuels/coolants/brake fluids, etc off your skin. I mean if all those skin-care products they sell permeate your skin, so will all kinds of stuff you don't to get in you.
I am also a mechanic or a professional. I tried myself at home to replace it. just a suggestion, for new people who want to try, it's better to use glasses, to protect your eyes from the gasoline that is released from the hose. .my eyes were hit 2 times every time I released the hose because of the remaining vapor pressure of the gasoline. and be careful with the biggest hose, you really have to move fast to install it, otherwise the gasoline will wet your clothes. 😂 🙏🙏🙏 Thnks...
Thank you for the video. I have the same car, today I noticed fuel smell and leaking at the tire. Do you think it is a fuel pump or anything else? Could it be a fuel tank?
If a Mercedes 1998C200 don't start at all and does not even crank ,how would I person know if it's the starter ,solenoid, or the fuel pump ? Can somebody inlighten me please !! I'm desperate ,I'm pensioner can't afford to send the Merc in for repairs.
If you can get back to me on this, i got my fuel pump changed a month ago and my car stopped running again. Is it possible it could the fuel pump relay?
I have this exact same car and mine shuts off every once in a while and when I’m at a red light or about to park but it cracks back up. It don’t do it while I’m driving. The engine light it’s always on. What could be the problem?
Gerardo LOPEZ I believe the relays are in the truck under the carpet. Up toward the back seat. Hope that helps. Sorry I don’t have the car to go out and look. Also make sure it’s not you ignition because after changing my feel pump it ended up being my ignition that went bad
Cindy Bentz unfortunately I paid £170 Garage to replace fuel pump .. fuel pump it’s only cost £45 if I watch your video before I definitely do it by my self
1313AslanBey here in the United States it would of cost an easy $800/$1000 that’s why I did it myself. Always look to CZcams first. You’ll be amazed at what you can find.
Cindy Bentz wow 8( that’s crazy I always thought London/England is more expensive than United States but that’s a crazy price 8( thanks for your great video as you said now on I always start to look you tube and try to fixed by my self thanks to nice people like you and You Tube .
