What's the worst game you've played on Steam? 🎮
Battlefield 2042
Samurai maiden
I'm not sure if it is on steam yet I think when I got it, it was a direct download freebie on one of the humble bundle monthly choices, it's a game called Torii
I downloaded it and played it because I heard the developer was argentinian, a country next to mine.
Man, did the game needed more time in the oven
I haven't looked if the dev improved the game, I'd like to know, the concept was not bad but the game was not finished at all when they published back then.
I hope they put more work into it and my comment reads as dumb now.
EDIT: Just went into steam and the game has positive reviews, I'm glad they stuck to it and it's in a better state now, maybe I should give it another chance now.
@@RealunmakerIt's much better than before iirc.
Blood and Zombies
The walking dead perma locking perks when a character dies is a really interesting mechanic for a game. Shame it isn't being used in something playable.
Some good ideas there, just misplaced
@@YourFavoriteSon1 I am pretty sure it was a get rich quick scheme with NFTs. That's why the game doesn't try at all.
@@Iztreshtelia is that like, what it was originally supposed to be or something? I saw no mentions of NFT's around this game anywhere
@@trickbaitmanbecause Steam has an NFT ban, so they had to scrub it in order to be allowed on
@@Gloomdrake didn't know that was a thing, but I can totally see why that'd be
Excited son, you are dad's favorite non-biological child
I was sold on the Grinch game until you said $40! Definitely a $10 game at best
Extremely odd choice that Code Shifter's art style (or at least the character sprites) seems to match that of the Disney "Tangled" cartoon series. The Stella character looks exactly like Rapunzel. I guess they probably just had the same artist on crew, but kind of a weird visual choice.
It's close enough that Disney could sue. She even has the same hair color.
Before I got to it I thought it was a tie in game. Hopefully it's just the same artist though bc it's a very distinct style
Yeah, that was my instant thought as well. That's just Rapunzel, practically traced over the Tangled artstyle. Even if the same artist worked on both, it...kind of feels off? Especially with Stella looking the way she does.
It looked like the art style of corporate training videos to me
Stella looks like she's straight out of a million mobile management-sim games, I'm playing one right now & it's like they've all got the same freaking template for the female characters like Stella... The fighters all look to be modified from other properties - including Tangled - that's why they all look so incongruous. Anyone could have designed it because they did. Lots of people.
Personally speaking, I reckon kid's games should be held to the same standard when it comes to the quality of entertainment given to them. I think it can be condescending to treat kid's entertainment with 'kids gloves', as if they should have things of lesser quality because they're too young to know otherwise.
Not to mention, if the quality of something is allowed to slide, then it can give devs a license to put out more poor quality content, albeit with a shield to excuse away criticism.
Honestly the biggest reason why I don't think kids' games should be held to a lower standard is because, if kids grow up seeing those games as "good" or as the standard for modern games, then those kids end up setting a low bar for other games once they grow up. For example, if they're overwhelmed with microtransactions on games like Fortnite, they'll be more tolerant to scummy p2w/p2p features on other games too because they've grown used to it.
Definitely agree. Children need high quality games, tv shows, books and movies more so than adults. Good quality entertainment shapes the child's mind in a positive manner. When they are teens and adults, they will easily recognize garbage and have developed good creativity skills. Good entertainment for kids is important period. Without it, we end up mentally delayed creeps like Chris Chan.@@anonymous-wk1nh
Everything with regards to kids should require MORE effort. Look at toys, food, cartoons, etc. It takes a lot to make these things good, safe, and valuable for kids. People who say "Who cares? It's for kids." probably feed their own kids McDonalds (which you absolutely should NOT do), because "they're just kids".
Bruh. Kids should not even be playing these games in the first place. They need high quality bicycles not high quality The Grinch (TM) platformer videogame 😂😂😂😂
Are you not aware that kids are capable of having _both?_ Shocking, I know! @@N99622
Grinch kinda feels like a stocking stuffer video game. One of those shovelware Christmas game where its more to get people in the mood for Christmas. I do think it should be cheaper.
This is the case of most Outright Games games. Some are genuinely bad, but most are just exceedingly mediocre and not that bad for like $7 or less. Clearly the budget is like $5, a pizza and a prayer.
Some are genuinely okay or pretty good (with the caveat that they’re licensed games). The only one with genuine content they’re released that I’ve played is the DC game they made. Not Super Pets.
It’s pretty long, albeit repetitive. Neat art style. Full voice acting (rarity for their games; including Super Pets which was based on a movie so idk why they couldn’t get clips from the movie to cram into the game). Even has some animated 2D scenes. Not sure if they came from a show or movie or what but it was nice to play one that felt like a real game with content to match’s
The first Dragons game was decent but also short. Most of their games are 1-4 hours of content. Even at $40 that’s insane.

@@e7193 illiteracy
@@e7193what are you 12 years old?
Arent people allowed to talk mate? Are you the youtube comment authority 😂
To be fair, that grinch game looks like it COULD have been decent, had the developers taken just a little more time to polish it. The animations were surprisingly good.
To me it just looks like a holiday reskin of one of the Oddworld games, which I do think are pretty fun
One small nit: this is a 2D/side-scrolling platformer rendered in a 3D engine. An example of a 3D platformer is Super Mario 64
Yeah I think they’re also called 2.5D sometimes?
@@darthfastball11502.5D is usually stuff like the New Super Mario Bros series, or Littlebigplanet, so yeah
To your comment on the walking Dead characters looking slightly off from their TV show counterparts. Most likely the developers saved money by not licensing the looks of the actors, which is something that you do actually have to do for a lot of these projects.
It’s just funny that they licensed SOME characters but not all, just goes to show that they had a rather small budget that they clearly wasted
Could be they got the license for the comics? Haven't watched the TV show or played the game, so I can't really tell
@@Hwyadylaw that's more than likely what they did. Im basing this on an article from like game informer I'm half remembering. But basically most big actors put in their contracts that they own their own likeness, so if you want to do a spin off series or something, you have to get their sign off/pay them royalties.
But if they just got the licence then doing someone who almost looks like Rick but not quite will be enough.
It feels a little more like they've tried (and failed) to "cartoonify" each character? Their eyes are larger, their features more exaggerated - probably to try to disguise the terrible graphics...
@@Blue_Sonnet for some reason those models remind me of adult 3D games... they have that distinct weirdness in them, even camera panning feels the same
Its always crazy to me that new games can be released with worse gunplay than 22-25 year old games. There is literally no excuse for that.
Trust me, people were saying the same thing 25 years ago.
@@txckaiiz391 er, okay
what 22 year old game has better gunplay ??
There has long been a simulator where you play a natural predator. WolfQuest has been in development seemingly forever; the most recent "Anniversary Edition" (not to be confused with the now retired WolfQuest "Classic") continues to see updates. It also appears to be well researched. The maps are recreations of areas of Yellowstone. One of the many (#235 was uploaded a couple of days ago) dev log videos shows the real basis for some of the appearance editor options, while another shows them recording animal sounds. Unfortunately, the free "Saga" expansion (allowing you to play the full life of a wolf raising its pups) has yet to be released, but they are clearly still working on it.
Sounds wild, will have to check it out!
came to the comments to see if anyone had mentioned it. I remember playing the original as a kid and hadn’t thought about it in years until I saw it on steam earlier this year and picked it up again. Just a very charming game that holds a special place in my heart lol
i really need to check this game out because i tried classic as a kid and thought it was neat but not my cup of tea, but my tastes and interests have changed quite a bit since then and I feel like I'd like that game alot now. The premise of Saga sounds interesting and reminds me of the Shelter game series.
@@YourFavoriteSon1 "wild", I see what you did there lol.
@@YourFavoriteSon1yes!! Plz!! It's such a niche game and I genuinely convinced myself I had made it up till years later. It's so unique and I think it really gets what people want from a game like this.
There's an old win95 educational game that simulates how a lion's pride survives in the Serengeti. You can also try survive as a nomadic lion or lioness. It goes pretty indepth as you have to manage hunting parties and decide on the pridelord and his mates as well. I believe that game was merely called Lion and I'm sure that you find it on abandon ware sites.
Sounds like I have a new game for my old compatability machine. Thank you!
I remember a similar game from around that time which was simply titled "Wolf". I looked it up and yep, made by the same developer.
These have become a go to for my "shit I watch while I edit" playlist.
Glad my pain could assist in the editing process
Kids games definitely SHOULD be held to a higher standard. Cuz as any parent knows youre gonna be helping get through some of it, and it shouldnt be an absolute boring chore.
About the whole its for kids debate, kids cartoons have kinda been overshadowing most other areas of TV lately in terms of consistent quality (you at least have a friend who wont shut up about owl house lol), so its not like media has to take an inherent hit just for appealing to kids. I think its simply that the people making these games don't care.
I thought about it for five-seconds wondering who I knew in my life that wouldn't shut up about Owl House. I quickly ascertained that it was me, I'm the culprit, I'm the annoying one. I must be fun at parties.
@@Goldenkitten1 It would be easier to shut up about it if it _wasn't so good!_
Why does the programmer girl from Code Shifters look EXACTLY like Rapunzel from the Tangled TV series? Same style and everything.
I was gonna say!!
What did I tell you about playing bad games son? Just don't let me find these in your room later. Don't have too much fun
Can't help myself
Wow son, I just watched the previous one last night, either good timing or you are in my walls, both are fine, just don’t touch my cheezits please
I'm more of a cheetos guy so if you could grab a bag of those I'd appreciate it.
@@YourFavoriteSon1 you can have a couple bags as a reward for your hard work
Those drawings in the Grinch special features are literally the illustrations from the book but with a pencil filter and color scribbles over the top.
You know what the main art style from Code Shifter looks like? The Tangled tv series.
thats what I was thinking!
I hnoestly thought it was Arc System making a Tangled game.
I'd forgotten about Code Shifter. Somewhat interestingly, a similar model has just been used for another Arc System Works game, BlazBlue Entropy Effect. In the case of Entropy Effect, apparently the developers had been creating their own original property Dead Cells style game, and somehow ended up with a license to turn it into an official BlazBlue "spin-off" using BlazBlue character assets. The core game is pretty decent, but it is also very obviously some other game that just had the BlazBlue sprites inserted. Like Code Shifter, it justifies the BlazBlue character game as being a virtual world, and also has a bunch of boring "real world" wrapper stuff involving an original character.
I agree with you on the "one day for ched" art style. SORTA reminds me of those really iconic MGS images. That water color heavy line looking stuff. Forgive my description if it's offensively wrong lmao
It reminded me more of Sin City, tbh.
Im on the side that kids games have to have quality, make them a bit easy but with quality.
yeah kids games shouldn’t get a pass for being bad just because they’re for kids
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet but the whole"Explore to unlock stuff" mechanic in the Grinch game was done better in American Mcgee's Alice Madness Returns where you need to explore to get teeth and upgrade your weapons.
Who in the world spends 40€ on a GRINCH game??
This is why we need to stop memers and speedrunners from reproducing.
They should really speedrun life and wrap it up right this second.
Someone who wants to troll their kids?
@@hansmoleman2666😂😂😂
I think my favorite part of Lightning Fast is how the dandelions are about as tall as your leopard cub. Makes it seem like you're playing as a baby housecat instead.
great vid to watch as i procrastinate doing my final and then studying for the rest of them
I LOVE this video series son! I've watched all of them so far, and look forward to another potential one next year!
My favorite game you talked about in this video was "Homeless Simulator 2" (starting at timestamp 32:51) because I liked how you "analyzed" a potential deeper meaning for the game only to completely disprove the deeper meaning "argument" due to the company having a history of making shovelware.
I really like the effort put into these videos. It would be easier to look at the lowest of the low but i appreciate the variety of ratings and fair perspective
Wave of darkness reminds me of vanilla WoW. Playing WoW as a 13 yo without WoWhead or guides really felt like you were dropped into a huge world and told "good luck bud"
I love this as a series man, super fun to watch in-between the big videos
Woa that The walking Dead game looks like an early 360 title that is strangely performance demanding for what it is. Super jank
In some parts it looks like a Wii game. Remember that silent hill on Wii? It actually looks better than twd Destinies overall. Competent art design is the main reason. Whatever engine they made silent hill shattered memories with was so good. I'm actually annoyed it wasn't used for a better game
that code shifters one is killing me cause why does stella look JUST like rapunzel from tangled the series, like same mouth, eye, nose shape, same hair flip thingy, same colors... pretty suspicious lol
The Walking Dead Destinies having easy stealth actually sounds like a bonus to me! I'm playing Ghost of Tsushima for the first time and purposely have everything as easy as it lets me. I like bein charge and not struggling with games, so feeling like enemies don't see me and being able to kill them actually sounds nice to me personally😂
Slightly melted Andrew Lincoln will forever haunt my dreams
omg I love these! Excited to watch another. Don't burn yourself out playing hot garbage though, dude!
Yeah me too, love these Steam dumpster diving type of videos.
That's the best content! I don't want to watch "good games". I only watch videos like this because bad games are so much more entertaining!😂
@@fuzzyotterpaws4395 exactly!
Thoses videos are pretty interesting and are obviously very successful so i'm glad for you, but i hope you'll keep doing your game retrospectives too !
Of course, I'll always branch out, but always come back to retrospectives.
There's a game with a similar premise to Lightning Fast called Shelter and other games in the Shelter series. I don't remember which one exactly but in one you play as a lynx mother raising her cubs. But I agree that it's a niche I wish more games would fill. Aside from maybe Tokyo Jungle I can't think of any along those lines that I've liked. Shame cause Lightning Fast looks like it had a lot of potential.
Thank you for using a very nice remix of a Persona 4 Golden song for some of your background music. :)
Wild to see an arcsys game on this list, the fighting games they make have so much care in it so a bad collab of their franchises is insane.
I was intrigued by the Baba Yaga game, and checked it out on Steam. I think the developer heard about your comment, and they fixed the mouse. I bought it.
Code Shifter is such a shame, such an idea could have really used a competent developer and a decent art style.
Gamer girl Rapunzel. That's all I saw everytime blondie appeared on the screen.
Oh my what a weird game. A buff guy in the yakuza gets kicked out of the yakuza and beats people up to survive. Hmm I wonder if that'll ever catch on 🤔
Might make a decent anime with a bit of work...
@@Blue_Sonnet I feel like if Sega made an anime adaptation of the Yakuza series now it would be awesome. RGG has been popping off lately
There is actually a game similar to the Leopard game here, but with wolves instead.
idk if anyone commented this but you might want to try wolfquest ^^ the premise is somewhat similar to the cheetah game, though you can't do unrealistic colors and the point is to hunt and survive, find a mate, get a territory, and raise pups.
you can age your wolf up and select small stat/ability perks for each year, there are a lot of achievements to collect and places to explore, plus a DLC map that comes with a lot more of these, which i think is absolutely worth it as someone with hundreds of hours. there's multiplayer so you can play with a pack of other wolves too
That Grinch one felt like it had some heart in it.
The Code Shifters art style for character's portraits reminds me so much of the Tangled animated series.
I haven't seen the show but it looks good visually.
Excellent use of The Witcher 1 soundtrack.
I'm kinda curious what the worst fighting game or 3D platformers are. I'd like to see those in maybe future episodes.
I'll have to seek out a fighting game. Don't think I've had one in any of the videos so far.
In the meantime, Matt McMuscles has quite a long running series trying to find the worst one - they're getting pretty bad...
@@Blue_Sonnet that's a fun series. That's why I kinda thought of that also with that Blazblue game
"it's a kids game" is a shit excuse for laziness same with "It's a show for kids" Kids deserve good stuff and specially for things that cost a lot, There isn't a good excuse for laziness or poor design and kids do like good content which I know is hard to believe nowadays but that is because they get slop and get given the poor excuses, give kids good games and shows with actual thought and effort behind it and you will have less kids with low attention spans that sit Infront of their Ipad watching Skibbidy Toilet crap. people that make the excuses "It's for kids" there for it's ok to be bad, are the same people that want kids to sit Infront of phones watching crap made in 5 seconds thrown out for them to sit Infront of instead of training their brain or going outside.
11:45 I'm sorry but that's not a leopard, that's a cheetah. They made the pattern wrong though, so it does look like a leopard, but the body proportions look like a cheetah.
I really really like this series you're doing. Hope you keep it up. I am pleased, my son.
As an ex-arcsys fan myself I literally had no idea that game existed and I'm honestly suprised they signed off on something so soulless
25:53 I saw a screenshot of this skill tree a few weeks ago and I’m still terrified of it. What a goddamn mess of a screen.
As a long time Arc Sys fan and player of their games. We did not like Code Shifter. Still on the fence with BlazBlue Entropy Effect.
Woah woah woah battle for bikini bottom is not a bargain bin game it goes hard
He did it again boys.
Anotha one
Trying to skip the dialogue in the grinch actually made me cackle out loud haha
Thought your full game reviews are well done. The little reviews really are a fun distraction. So many are ones I haven’t heard of…probably for a reason.
I like how Code Shifter straight up uses a character with a slightly different color from river city ransom
The Grinch game was $40!?!?!? I was like "ah, looks like an innocent, fun little time-waster for kids who don't play video games often or adults who enjoy the Grinch, etc." But $40!?!?!?!?!?! WTF!? I thought it was $3.99 at the most!
You misspelled *best! also, son. This deplorable state of the steam store has been like this since I remember. Just like the nintendo eshop store being filled up with absolute garbage
I love that someone else played One Day for Ched! Jim Sterling livestreamed the "I'm very, very drunk" level and eventually got past it. It took a LOT. I still watch it sometimes 😁
Wait...people actually *watch* Jim Sterling?
@@mukhylogregorivich4995 Yep, I really like the Jimpressions/Squirty Play stuff since there's some real trash in there from the good old Greenlight days. My favourite is one where the MC is a green alien with wonky hands, that has to fight dinosaurs and giant snakes because reasons.
i remember there was actually another version of that gamer shop game where you sell weed instead and moist critical played it for awhile and it looked really fun. but also the weed game seems like it has more mechanics tied to it so theres more to do in general
The Walking Dead Destinies was the first Walking Dead thing I've ever seen lol. I know nothing about the show or what characters look like, so I'm only relying on bad games now haha😅
I only semi recently binged all of the walking dead original show. I highly recommend it. It's absolutely fascinating to witness a show go from one of the best things I've ever seen to some of the worst in such a short amount of time. I went from praising it enthusiastically to nearly bailing on the series on the next episode. It has absolutely nothing to do with characters dying off which is the usual complaint, it just suddenly has characters doing things that make absolutely no sense at all and it was so jarring that I wanted to just stop watching. It does briefly get good again when Negan arrives but that only lasts a season or two then it drops into the abyss of nonsense. It's fascinating to witness
If you want a game like the Leopard one, I highly suggest checking out the Shelter series by Might and Delight.
As a Walking Dead fan who hasn't had a good game since Telltale, I wanted Destinies to be so damn good. But we have Saints and Sinners, so that's a plus. The problem is that every time a non-telltale Walking Dead game comes out it has like, none of the stuff we want out of it. Overkill's game is a great example of this. Their cinematic trailers showed us a gritty, dark, setting where we'd be playing as some down-to-earth characters trying to survive. Instead we got Back-4-Blood 0.5. Which is nowhere close to what we thought it would be. Granted it was made by the people that did Payday, so maybe that's on me for hoping for something they just don't do.
Wave of Darkness is one of those games where I take one look at that UI and I'm instantly exhausted. It's part of why I've never gotten into any MMOs, they all look like that.
Would you ever review Two Worlds? Back when I was just getting into games all I heard about that game was that it was awful, but I looked at some reviews recently and it sounds like it was actually a promising but janky game with bad voice acting, and that there's plenty of fun to be had playing it. I won't be playing it anytime in the near future because I just started Pathfinder WOTR, but I'm thinking of playing it next.
Could check it out. I remember playing it when I was younger.
Honestly, that Walking Dead game would've benefited if they just based it on the graphic novel instead of the TV show. That way they don't need to try getting the likeness of the actors and their voices.
Yea but its gamemill so I didn't expect much lol the funny thing is that 3 original voice actors for the walking dead TV show did do their voices in that game. Lori T dog and Beth are all the original actors.
That Bill Clinton skit had me in a flashback of my childhood back in '99. Dunno should I laugh or relive the trauma?! 🤣
Code Shifter uses the "corporate art" art style. No one likes that trash. That's why corporations are the only ones who use it. And bad game devs, apparently.
The reason max was barely used in the grinch game is because the game supports multiplayer and max is the character for the second player.
The Bill Clinton picture slowly fading in got me, especially that smile. You deserve the subscription now.
Code Shifter's art reminds me of the old animated esurance ads lol
if you liked the idea of that leopard game, there's the isle (and I think path of titans is similar?) which is basically that but working and with dinosaurs
21:16 It really makes Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 stick out more with how great the game is, despite under a very shitty publisher.
Narrator: "The Grinch isn't happy. In fact, he is fuming"
Grinch: "Erh erh erh erh erh"
I believe it; sounds like malding to me. Good writing lol
113k I hope you fully understand you aren't an imposter or a one hit wonder, your videos are amazing and great quality thank you for all of the hours I've gotten to spend learning from your videos
Thank you for an actual review of these. I appreciate you going in depth and actually explaining the flaws.
Thank you for your sacrifice, Son.
That IS a great retro style UI, color palet. The colors are like an old conversion van or game show set.
Always proud of your work, son.
Why does the art style in Code Shifters remind me of the Tangled animated series?
A game like lightning fast but actually works and still occasionally gets updated is Wolf quest. You of course, play as a wolf. You go through a wolf life cycle of finding a mate. Having pups and raising them. Then you can pick to play as one of the pups you raised. I think you get some state bonuses if you picked a good mate and raised the pups well. It'd a little silly looking but honestly a nice time dump.
Goo to hear your voice again, son. We're proud of you.
Until I saw your thumbnail, I had forgotten about the Walking Dead game... It was nice.
Hey Son, isnt quite the same concept as lightning fast but Tokyo Jungle is an fun little game about being an animal and just surviving. Wont say more than that as to not spoil anything, but you might have a good time of it.
Game mill is such an appropriate name for them smh. Just crankin em out asap.
in regards to Dreamatrix, i feel like i remember Legends of Dawn being so bad they were pretty much forced to give refunds before the refund policy was even a thing....maybe i'm mistaken.
We’re simpatico when it comes to nostalgia hovering around the middling licensed games of our youth.
FORTY DOLLARS FOR THE GRINCH GAME?? I think my brain just melted out my ears
Code Shifter, The Grinch, and baba yaga didn't seem bad perse, just mediocre. Not sure they deserve to be on a WORST games list. The rest look pretty bad though
Gamer Shop simulator must be an asset flip, I've seen sth near identical but with different name on LGIO
Is Code Shifter a Disney property..? If not and Disney finds out they basically not only Tangled the shows style but also RAPUNZEL HERSELF AS A DESIGN for one of the characters they’re screwed..
I kinda wanna play Walking Dead Destinies now. Just because it's so broken lol 🤣
if you want to play a game as a beast hunting, check out shelter and shelter 2 where you play as a badger and lynx
Holy cow, son. 44k views in less than a day. You're taking off!
