After watching Doc Martin for so many years, I was determined to see Port Isaac, and did so in February of 2024. Stayed a couple nights in Bodmin. Seeing that area from the air was brilliant. Thank you, Captain! 🧑‍✈️ Mark / Minneapolis, MN 🇺🇸

This is brilliant. What a fantastic video. I know Cornwall well many a holiday there as a child growing up in '70s and '80s but our family never visited the Scilly Isles. But to see this journey via microlight is just the best. My dad flew gliders and light aircraft and he would have loved this footage. What a way to travel, happy flying.

When I saw the approach over the Islands all I could think of was a poem...
    High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
    high in the sunlit silence.
Hov’ring there, I’ve chased the shouting wind along,
and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace.
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
    John Gillespie McGee Junior. R.C.A.F.

Great video, reminds me of my one "sea crossing" in a trike. It was a bit more primitive than yours, back in the early 1980s. We flew from the usually busy microlight "airport" at Middleton Sands, south of Heysham, across Morecambe Bay to either the old ex RAF/USAF field at Cark or the grounds of Holker Hall a little further north, can't remember which and my log book's not handy.
Single cylinder 250 cc two stroke, and practically no instruments, no radio, no parachute. I had a boat's compass, bought from the local chandlers, and a climber's or hiker's cheapo altimeter. Fuel gauge was a transparent sight tube on the tank, and airspeed was the feel of wind in my face, but John had a home-made ASI on his machine. I have to admit, I felt less comfortable on that flight than any others! I got a nice photo (on film in those days, of course) of John's aircraft below me as we flew over Heysham Harbour and Lighthouse.
    Happy days!

Took me back to my flying days.
Certainly choppy at 500 foot (I remember those days) and as predicted, it was the same landing.
    But a good flight.
Flew over the channel in 2011 to south of France that took 3.5 days to get there , flying for 3 hours in the morning, then resting and then 3 hours in the evening then camping under the wing.
    Happy Days.

@@davesmicrolightadventures I first visited the Lake Diistrict after finishing my second Pennine way Hike from North to South and thought I would attempt the Coast to Coast thinking that going through the Lake District would be tougher than the Pennine Way, it turned out to be so much easier walking up one valley and crossing over a hill at the end to the next vally, then came the middle section from Kirkby Stephens to Richmond, once over the moors it was a simple case of walking down the Valley to Richmond then over to the North Yorkshire Moors and the coast just beyond the moors, but the Yorkshire Moors seem to go on forever. Still eventually I reach the coast and thought Yes the Pennine Way is Longer at 370 mile to the C2C route of 180 miles but its hard to say which is the most strenous. Once again loved the video and will look out for more of your output. Tony the Retired Hiker in Essex

@@davesmicrolightadventures No worries, thanks for posting the vid. Might be worth noting that them that live there prefer 'Isles of Scilly'. The Scilly Isles are a roundabout between Esher and Thames Ditton, one of the earliest multiple roundabouts in the UK. Locals called them the Silly Isles and the legend is that some of 'em worked at the Ordnance Survey in Chessington just down the road. So the 'SCilly Isles' name got written on the map. Well I think it's funny... Want to see a vid of some very nice biodiverse habitat off St Martins at 30m? If you say 'yes' I'll reply with a link, but I thought I'd ask first 'cos this is your channel.

Thanks for posting Dave. I'm new to your channel and am always looking out for flexwing Microlight vids so as to appreciate the spectacular pictures at snail pace. Are annotations feasible when editing? Keep posting!

I enjoyed the video. But it would've been 10x better if you had pointed out, maybe with graphics, the different towns, villages and landmarks. Such a shame

Maybe it is a good idea to put some stats at the end of your video like: flighttime, distance, etc. Might make an already interesting video even more interesting.

Amazing! The first video of this kind I've ever watched! I had a PPL so am used to restricted views with Cessnas! I showed your video to a friend today and the question they asked was, 'Does he have a parachute?'! I assumed the answer is no, as I never carried a parachute in a Cessna but please confirm the answer! What's the furthest you've flown in that machine and what's the range on a good weather day? And another 'silly' question from the same friend: Ask him if the machine has a name! (LOL!) Thanks!

Hi, first of all, no we don't carry parachutes, myself and a friend flew 2 of these all the way to the North cape in Norway and back last year, almost 5000 miles in total, as for range, we can do up to 4 hours on a full rank at around 80 mph, so 320 at a time, the most we've done in a day was about 550 miles if I remember correctly, all the videos of that journey are on you tube, check them out at dave bromley microlight adventures, let me know what you think, regards, dave

Very nice! I like your editing and choice of music, but your voice was very quiet compared to the music volume. We've tried a few times to get to St. Marys but the wx has always been against us. One day...

I have some doubts as to wether this real or a flight simulator. I think the hands give it away and the lack of other humans.

    • @davesmicrolightadventures
      @davesmicrolightadventures  Před 28 dny

What's wrong with my hands ?, and there aren't a lot of humans about while I'm flying, this is all totally real and happened just the way you see it

Just wondering what precautions you have to take for that distance over water, is it just height for glide distance and hope? Sorry if it’s a dumb question

Hi, most of the music I use comes from soundstripe which is part of the power director video editor, the clips I used in this video were called, chasing the northern lights, come and see, and, interim, probably not very helpful if you don't have power director, regards, dave
