    • @NeverEverClever
      @NeverEverClever Před 6 měsíci +19

      In a scenario with an alliance between austria and france, Bismarck wouldn't have been as aggressive. Austria cant attack Prussia in this case, the Prussians have been allies of Britain for a long time and would be able to secure Russian support as well, that's not a risk the pretty shaky austrians could take.
      France would get into a napoleonic wars situation in case of an attack on prussia, Napoleon III was certainly not capable of winning this, as France was neither the behemoth in terms of population advantage it had been 60 years earlier, nor was it particularly advanced in military technology or in industrial capacity. An attack on prussia would have turned the southern german states towards prussia just like we've seen in our timeline aswell.

    The existence of so many more Romanians in Austria could alternatively lead to a weakened Hungary, with the Romanian minority in Hungary opposing Hungarian autonomy, strengthening the Croat minority in Hungary too, leading ultimately to a more equal federalisation of the Austrian empire. Without the Italian economic base, the nobles of Austria would be more inclined to fight Hungarian super-autonomy too.
    Can't envisage a world where Austria is on the UK/French side, wins, & then concedes its Italian wealth & hegemony for guaranteed future conflict with the Ottoman & Russia with less defensible borders & a poorer economic base.

    Bismarck would never simply hand Baltic territories for Russian neutrality since that is a terrible blackmail scenario for Prussia that Russia could use later to gain more territories (e.g., East Prussia and areas around Koenigsberg) just to maintain Russian neutrality in future conflicts. It would also jeopardize his position as chancellor if he didn’t get something similar in return besides short term neutrality. If it were how you speculated, then what guarantee does Prussia get if Prussia has a harder time unifying Germany than OTL? Russia stands to turn Prussia into a protectorate, and there is no Bismarck in that scenario. Rather, Bismarck would offer the Russians an exchange of territory at a minimum for prestige sakes. For example, the Baltic territories for Polish territory in western part of Congress Poland that also borders Austria and gives Prussia more advantage in a conflict with Austria. More likely, not all Baltic territories would be offered, especially Lithuania and Courland, but maybe up to Riga, which would’ve been a nice deal for Russia at this time. In this scenario, Bismarck maintains leverage over Russia and has the ability to provide non-German speaking territories for future bargains with Russia that make sense. This is how a great power buys neutrality in the late 1800s, not by offering ones territory without compensation in kind, which implies one is no longer a great power, but a lesser power, like Sardinia, that can be highly influenced or directly controlled.

      @@fireandblood8142 Is it certain that Prussia would've been crushed or was stalemate possible? I think a certain advantage for Prussia in that time period would've been that the other major European powers could've not come to Austria's aid because of their involvement in the Crimean War. What were some of the main weaknesses of the Prussian military compared to Austrian military before the reforms you mentioned?

    • @fireandblood8142
      @fireandblood8142 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@hendriktonisson2915 Yeah, absolutely. The Prussian army had fundamentally not changed since 1815, both in terms of command structures and numerical size. It numbered 150 000 men, half of which were reserve units from the Landwher, which was just crap militia. On the other hand, Austria had a standing army of 300 000 battle-hardened veterans who had just fought in the recent civil wars of 1848, and an additional 100 000 reservists could be mobilized, boosting the Austrian army to a theoretical huge strength of 400 000 men, only France and Russia had as many or more soldiers. Furthermore, the Prussians had not yet generalized the needle gun (breechloading rifle) which gave it its technological superiority in 1866 IOT. During the times of the Crimean War, they were still using muzzleloading rifles which were not even the best of their time (France had the best muzzleloading rifles, the Minié, which was quickly copied by practically all European nations, notably Austria with its Lorenz version released in 1857). Finally, no one had yet experimented the use of railways to mobilize troops, the first nation to do so was France during the 2nd Italian War of Independance in 1859, so Prussia would not benefit from its IOT advantage in mobilization which allowed it to overwhelm the Austrian defense on the border and ultimately crush it at Koniggratz.

The purpose of the Allies here is to unify Circassia under one banner and then use it as something to distract Russia, most likely to launch raids against Russia. However, the Commonwealth and the Ottoman Empire will definitely be competing with one another over Circassia for influence with France supported the former while Britain supported the latter. With the divided Circassia but with heavy foreign influences from Western Europe and the Balkans, Russia wouldn't dare come into Circassia. At least for a while. A russian conquest of crimea, while possible, because it happened, it's really difficult. The terrain in the land bridge with Ukraine is a swamp with only a few possible safe crossings, which makes the invading army vulnerable. This is in part the reason of the late conquest of crimea by russia, which they fought various wars with the ottomans for. So, if the german unification lasts the same as in OTL, there's no way russia could conquer the ottoman territory that easily.

    What if Russia had adopted the cult of Makima, Revy, Cutie Honey, Marin Kitagawa, Trixie Tang, Judy Neutron, Marge Simpson, Wendy Corduroy, Lois Griffin, Sailor Moon and Maddie Fenton instead of Abrahamic shit?

    My based scenario for decisive victory over the war.
    Ottomans got their lands back from Russia, integrates Romanian and Crimean and Circissian vassals so controls %100 of the black sea. Swedish Empire shines again in North. Prussia get some lands in Belarus.

      No, give the ottomans… all of Central Asia and all of Siberia to Mongolia except the USA gets reverse Alaska for symmetry obviously. Then force Russia to turn into and equal polish-Muscovy union and give Crimea to Lichtenstein to compensate them for not willingly not buying Alaska

    An important facet not discussed in either video was the sale of Russian America after the war. Eventually the Russians would have discovered the gold there and an interesting colonial conflict could have occurred again between Great Britain and Russia.

    No matter what, Sweden retains Finland! Nordics stronk!
    That aside what would have been interesting to see explored would have been a Swedish intervention to defend Denmark from Prussia in this scenario. Historically the lack of help signed the death warrant of the Scandinavian Unity movement which was decently strong prior to the war

    Wouldn't the Ottomons gain major territory in a carve up of Russia as it was mainly the French and British naval campaign with Ottomon troops to prevent Russia from gaining a foothold in the Black Sea and eventually the Mediterranean?
    Sure French and Geneo (Italy?) along with the UK did land some troops in Ukraine but it was mainly an Ottomon land campaign since Crimea was a Tartar territory that in turn was a vassal state to the Ottomon Empire. It didn't become Russian until around the World War 2 era where Stalin made Crimea "Russian" by expelling the Tartars.
