    I have to say, this is probably one of the best reviews of AK's Xtreme Metal and comparison to Alclad that I've seen out there. You are not pushing one over the other and I totally agree, that each can/does have its place in a build. I, myself, use them both, and I've used them on the same build cohesively without any problems. My hat is off to you my friend for an excellent review! Just joined your site and glad I did!
    Just a note, I'm headed to my first trip Down Under this December! So looking forward to it!

      +Jeremy Elliott thank you very much mate. I have just painted a model using both alclad and ak over each other and i have to say i will be keeping both on my shelf. Thanks again mate.

    I've just experimented and found that if you apply AK chrome over their aluminium you can get that mirror shine without that unrealistic black base shining through as you do with Alclad high shine metalizers. Apply the AK black base first though. Spraying AK chrome, without first applying their aluminium, over their black base created clouding due to the heavy coats needed to hide the black base - same like Alclad.

    Have you used the Vallejo metal colour paints? Just trying to see how they compare. Just wanting some metal paints for jet exhausts and other effects here and there. From what I have seen the procedure is pretty much identical. The Vallejo range seems to be much easier to get in New Zealand which is a plus, but if the AK metals are better Ican always get them sent over.

    A superb review, I'm planning to paint a P51 but I thought i would ask if you tried the chrome finish yet or do you think i should go with the polished alum ?, thanks.

    • @scalemodelmania
      @scalemodelmania  Před 7 lety

      Thanks mate. I would use the polished alum as the chrome is way to bright to look like alloy. I have done a P-51 in the polished alloy and its beautiful. Let me know how you go mate.

    What are the alclad 105 polished aluminium and the alclad 119 airframe aluminium based on? Enamel? And do you need to properly thin them for your airbrush? I am building a P-51D mustang and P-47N from Revell and I want a nice shine metal finish. It is the first time i’m using paints like these and I wanted to buy the AK interactive but then I saw the Alclad stuff.

      @scalemodelmania  Před 6 lety

      alclads are ready to spray out of the bottle. The AK is much easier to use but for chrome and polished aluminium alclad gives the best finish.

      @@scalemodelmania glad i bought alclad polished aluminium and xtreme metal for other aluminiums

    I found Alclad polished aluminium dulls a lot after some time ... Total crap. AK is the way to go.

      i have found the same on some older models. But its fine on others.

    Thanks again love your channel!!! So you sealed it with gloss?

    • @scalemodelmania
      @scalemodelmania  Před 8 lety

      Thanks mate. Sorry i missed your comment earlier. I used a light mist coat of gloss so it would not distort the metal finish. I am getting some of the new AK metal finish clear and will post a review video after i give it a test.

    • @scalemodelmania

      +Homerlovesbeer2 thanks mate glad you liked it. I clean the airbrush with an all purpose thinners or mr color lacquer thinners.

    where you able to compare alclad chrome with the xtreme metal chrome? and is it more durable to handling compared to alclad? Since the alclad chrome, when not topcoated, would rub off and lose the chrome finish, leaving you with the black undercoat showing

    • @scalemodelmania
      @scalemodelmania  Před 8 lety

      +Dennis Tiu no i did not have any chrome. I will be ordering some soon so i will let you know. May do another vid just on the chrome finishes.
