Yup there's always something religious with the meaning behind anything that was common during the 19th century although the tune originated in the late 18th century though.
When I used ring the church bells I was told this is what it stood for, it is such a privilege to know. People don't believe me but now they will, and they will have to believe me now. 😊.
In Japan, they play this tune at 5pm to test the emergency broadcasting system and to tell children to return home. I always heard it on the speakers in the evening and it is very nostalgic to me
Those pole speakers from Japan are called Bosai Musen, they're are also used for natural disasters or other hazards like earthquakes, tsunamis or even missile launch
My grandparents had a clock that would make this jingle at the start of every hour. I always wondered what it was called, and I kept forgetting to ask it they knew. Finally, after all these years, I know what it is!
My grandfather had one as well. I always associated this chime with his house. He passed away 6 years ago and the clock now sits on the mantle above my fireplace, still chiming at each quarter hour
Same! And remembering it was why I suddenly realized it’s where I know the Westworld mind control bass melody from. The show offers the explanation that it’s the first few notes of a classic piece of music but in reality it sounds so much more like this than the piece they cited.
My aunts house had this chime in the 90's- I love the macabre and theres something haunting about it especially the low note thumps at the end when it counts the current hours. I need one !!!
I absolutely love the chimes on any clock, it must be the bell ringer in me. I have a mantle clock with these chimes which I saved for and it was so worth it, I would love a Grandfather clock but my house isn't big enough, the ground it stands on has got to be level and they cost so much to service, and if it stopped for no apparent reason it would freak me out because of the history of them. So I'm going to keep with utube. 🎶🎶.
Bro! My grandparents had a clock that would chime like this, and every time we visited them, we would make it a priority to listen and count the number of chimes together, whenever it sounded off.
My goodness! Sounds just like the tall floor-standing hand-wound clock my grandparents had in their hallway. I wanted that clock so badly as an adult but it wound up going to someone else in my family. Oh well...good memories. One of these days I'll give in and spend the money to get myself one.
I was 30 years old when I finally found the name of this melody, because my grandparents had this clock and I always wondered what this song was and I was asking my mom and she told me to ask Siri because we now have the clock in the house Thank you CZcams and Siri! 🙏 Miss you, grandma and grandpa and Leann RIP🙏
sometimes at 10pm when the rest of the house is sleeping, i’ll sit in my room with the window open and hear our church emitting this beautifully eerie chime in the dark distance. 11/10 experience if it’s raining outside too. aside from that, one of my childhood homes had a doorbell that played this chime. i also grew up hearing it whenever my sister played fnaf lmao. haunting but lovely
@@InkyEntity oh i know they use treador’s march in fnaf 1 when the power goes out, but they also use the westminster chimes in some of the games when you reach 6am :)) you can also hear it in fnaf 4 just as part of the ambiance

I remember every morning when my mom was leaving for work, she'd drop me off at my grandpa's house since he would watch me while she was working. It'd be early in the morning, like 6 or 7AM, and my grandpa would still be asleep just for a couple hours. And I was pretty young, but my mom and grandpa trusted me to take care of myself and be fine in that short time he would still be sleeping. I'd sit and watch cartoons in the living room until he woke up. Octonauts, Yo Gabba Gabba, Bubble Guppies, the list goes on. Anyways. He had a pretty big house, and it would always be completely silent while I was watching TV and my grandpa was sleeping. But every now in then, through the silence, I would hear this start to play faintly in a few rooms down. I had gotten so used to hearing it became like white noise, and it was actually comforting. At the time it meant nothing to me obviously, it was just a random sound from a clock. But hearing this now makes me feel so weird there are no words to describe it.
I remember an old clock tower that's in my town that used to ring this out, it stopped 4, maybe 5 years ago, and has rarely rung any form of tune since (when ever it rings, it's random bells going off then it rings the hours, but I think it's broken because I swear, I would here it ring more than 12 times when ringing out the hour)
i remember hearing these chimes when i was younger and in this melody now if only i can get a grandfather clock that i dont have to murder my wallet for, id prefer a fixer upper if i could could use a project
I got a Howard Miller triple chime for $50 at a flea market. That is a fabulous deal. I had to repair a lot just to get it running, but it was definitely worth it. It's a large wall clock, if you wanted to knoe
I still have this clock which ages more than 30years... date showing mechanism is dead but it still shows time and chimes each hour with 1 beep for 1AM and 12beeps for 12PM.
I've been looking for this sound name for more than 5 years and accidentally found it while searching Westminster's chime. Heard this melody at Poris station back on 03/04/2015 and feel like I'm in Japan. That was my first ever train in Indonesia.
For the life of me I couldn't remember how this ended and I kept whistling the first three semi-phrases (forgive me, I took theory in Italian). Finding this video was also surprisingly difficult.

I have my mother in law's grandfather clock. I pull the weight up every Sunday and I've messed with the pendulum a lot but it still loses a minute a week. It has the Westminster chime but we keep it turned off 'cause it makes Pops sad.. I don't know how to set the solar system/star chart part of it but I'm sure youtube could teach me.
