      S-RAY it actually happens in some cases, like an aircraft with poor performance taking off full weight from a high altitude airport with a not very long runway. Example: A340 taking off full weight from Quito, which, if I’m not wrong, is the highest altitude airport in the world (ten thousand and something feet)
      (I know that this was very swoosh, no need to tell me lol)

    I flew to Kiruna in the Swedish Lapland summer 2018 with an SAS A320neo and I personally feel like it’s a pretty good trip. They serve reindeer sandwiches instead of normal sandwiches on this flight, and both costs the same, which is actually pretty nice because reindeer meat is a lot more expensive.

    Swiss sticks a clean landing about 20% of the time. But he says it’s a nice landing about 75% of the time. That 737 landing was pretty smooth

  • @davidzhuleiva
    @davidzhuleiva Před 4 lety +5

    I was there last week, the day after this video was released, to be exact. I flew with Norwegian. I believe SAS exclusively uses 737 for its flights to ENSB/LYR. Both airlines serve LYR all year round. Interestingly, global warming has caused thawing of the permafrost (a condition where the year round temperature of the ground is below freezing), which is causing problems for the airport buildings, runway and taxiways, as these are structurally dependent on the ground being frozen.
    Most landings with 737s are performed from the west, even with tailwind, as the approach from the east is less desirable due to terrain.
    What can you actually do there? Well, it is one of the northernmost settlements that are easily accessible to to the public, thus it draws some tourism and researchers for its polar nature. Animals. And some coal mining.

In that country (if you think it is, but is more of a territory/norwegian island.) is *prohibited to die and be born.* So they go with SAS or Norwegian to Norway so they can die or be born. And there are other things like there're more polar bears than people in the island and you need to go outside with a shotgun or like a shotgun (because there could be a polar bear vs human battle) but no one cares about what I said. :sob:

    The reason SAS flies to LYR is that people live there and boat takes two weeks to Tromsø. Also tourists like them islands.
    Things to do on Svalbard: Watch the northern lights, whale safari, walk on the glaciers, explore the abandoned russian town of Pyramid. So there is lots to do on those islands.
    Could you check out BDU/ENDU? It's quite hard landing at runway 10. Due to a 300ft hill right before the runway. If you want to here is the airport briefing: avinor.no/globalassets/_microsite/ais-portal/flyplassinfo/pilot-briefing-endu_v2.pdf
