- In this video we take a look at four of Guiding Light's past Villains. We look at the brief history and some of the bad things they have done. I'm a big fan of all the Villains, but these four in general are ones I looked forward to watching everyday. You never know what they would be capable of!
Also, take a look at Guiding Light: Villains Part 1 for clips of many of the past villains. - Zábava
I think the first GL villain I really remember was Roger Thorpe...he was the quintessential baddie. But, Marian/Brent and Annie were definitely rotten to the core!
Actually the first Dinah was played by Paige Turco when I first started watching GL back in '87. But back then she was a nice midwestern girl. She got a personality change somewhere during her years in Europe. I will say that Wendy Moniz was by far the most striking looking of all the Dinahs.
Fantastic! You featured three of my all time favorite villains: Annie, Carmen & Edmund. Man, GL was so fun when they were on!
Annie was the one that got me into Guiding Light and had me stick around for as long as I have.
God this show was so good for so long. How did it all fall apart. I will never understand. It broke my heart when it was canceled.
Jeanne played a lady named Cecilia who was an "Old Friend" of Vanessa's and Christian Leblanc was her "Boy Toy". Jeanne Cooper said on the GL's 40th Anniversary Primetime Special in 1992, that if she didn't do Y & R, she would have loved to have done GL.
By far Brent/Marian. It's my all-time favourite storyline. So layered, multi-faceted and well done. So over the top but pulled off brilliantly thanks in large part to the actor pulling it off flawlessly. Thank you for posting the Brent/Nadine scene. I haven't seen it since it aired but remember it well. His attack on Susan I still have on tape :)
Annie is a close second :)
this was so much fun. thx
I remember the Brent/Marian storyline. It was the first one I saw when I started wathcing GL with my grandma. The actor playing Brent was so convincing, he scared the living hell out of me/
My two all-time favorite villainesses are Diane Ballard (played superbly by Sofia Landon) and Lucille Wexler (played brilliantly by Rita Lloyd). Jerome & Bridget Dobson and Douglas Marland developed these characters as complex, multi-faceted human beings (as opposed to one-dimensional cartoon villains) wonderfully during the late 70s and early 80s, and there was such a rich subtext in their scenes.
On Guiding Light, Silas Crocker will always be my favorite. The only character who reminds me of him is Gul Dukat on Star Trek: Deep Space 9.
Loved the Brent/Marian story. He looked like Mo Bauer! ;)
I think that MZ remains one of the most mesmerizing actors ever to hit the screen. RIP Mr. Zaslow!
OUTSTANDING VIDEO!
Annie and Brent\Marian were the vilians I lliked most when I was watching GL.
Absolutely loved all of these villains. Brent is the one that brought me back to GL
Due to my screen name, have to say Ben Warren.....but ultimate baddie was Annie Dutton!! I love your clips and the music you set this to! Great job! I stopped watching shortly after San Cristobel...your Edmund clips make me wish I'd seen some of that! I'm gonna miss GL. :(
Carrie Todd Marler, Silas Crocker, Darci Dekkar, Susan Piper, Brent Lawrence, Annie Dutton (Cynthia Watros), Sonni/Solita, Wil Jeffries, Annabelle Sim's father (I forgot his first name), David Preston, Bradley Raines, Alan Spaulding (Christopher Berneau). . .
When Christian Leblanc (Michael Y & R) and Jeanne Cooper (Kay Y & R) visited the GL Set, Justin Deas (Ex-Buzz) talked about how the Actor who played Brent/Marian got too carried away with the storyline and actually would come to the set dressed as Marian.
I always love Carmen Santos she is beautiful but powerful mob boss to do.whatever it takes to keep her family together
She was a villain in the mid 80's. She was only on the show for one story arc. She was played by Carrie Nye.
Brent/Marian. Hands down one of the best villains ever.
Hi, do you know where we can watch all the episodes of the brent/marian saga?
That was Susan Bates. She was dating Nick McHenry. Susan didn't trust Marian so Brent thought it was best to get rid of her. She survived but was in a coma for a while.
Another video that needs to be redone with the amount of videos become available, in the last couple of years since 2008, that have and detail much of the evil Diane Ballard wrecked upon Springfield and it's residents. A matter-of-fact Spauldingfield really needs to a character profile on Diane.
Annie, Carmen, Ben! Oh!!! I loved the Ben/Blake/Ross storyline!!! I adore Cynthia Watros as Annie Dutton! I first began watching GL when Annie had that nurse help her get pregnant...the baby died and Annie framed Reva for the death by throwing herself down some stairs making it look as if Reva had pushed her! Soooo GOOD GL was back then!!!
What always got me about the Brent/Marion s/l is that the farther into it they went, the more old horror film tropes McT added, particularly the whole Hitchcockian "Psycho" elements. I mean think about it: Marion Crane was the name of Janet Leigh's character whom Norman Bates knifed in the first thirty minutes, Lucy's new friend's name was Susan Bates, Brent split into two different personalities just like Norman Bates did, and he ended up going into psychiatric care at the end just like Bates.
All of them. . .Guiding Light was the BOMB
My favorite was Susan Piper. Also Annie Dutton, Sonni/Solita, Carrie Todd and Diane Ballard.
I loved marion Crane such an awesome storyline. Please post more clips of her with the original audio!!!!
Overall, my fave was Roger Thorpe...of these, it was Annie.
do you have anything with India Von Halkine ? remember her?
Roger Thorpe and Edmund Winslow hands down.
That's why that name was familiar. Was she more diabolical than Carrie (Carrie Nye's other villainous character)?
Did hear that Susan died with something dealing with Lava? Sounds pretty crazy, I would have loved it!
I loved Edmund, Carmen Santos, and Carrie.
Edmund sure made things interesting!
Who is the little boy Villain??
Yw! Yes Lucy and Alan-Michael moved to France in '97 after getting tired of all the Spaulding shenanigans.
According to bandstandmike who has what I consider to be ONE of THE definitive GL channels for the 90s, Frank Beaty has since retired from acting. I too think it's a shame and have repeatedly commented that he could have had ONE HELL of a career as a leading man. Or perhaps an antihero. He's certainly got the looks for it.
Yeah compare Edmund with somebody like, say, Alan-Michael. Both of them were second fiddle to their older brothers, but they took divergent paths as adults.
My faves were Silas Crocker, Rodger Thorpe, Susan Piper and Diane Ballard.
i think Carmen and Edmund were so deliciously wicked they were the best.
edmund, hands down!
BWHAHAHAHAHAA....hands down...ANNIE DUTTON!!! She was LOONEY BIN CRAZY!! When she got busted trying to marry Alan...Reva told her, "I'm going home to my family and you're going to HELL...in an orange jumpsuit!" ROFLOL!!
Too many to name. I loved Dinah before she left and then came back stronger. Annie is that bitch man. I cried on her last episode. Edmond was so fun to watch while Brent was so creepy, but had me rushing home after school to watch him terrorize springfield. My Top fav villains was the Santos clan. Carmen and her mother was nothing to be played with at all.
u forgot that Edmund kidnapped Lizzie and Johnathan 's daughter and he killed Jeffrey
Your best bet is to check out this clip.
CBS Guiding Light Road To the Finale With Christian LeBlanc
Go to around 01:56 and Justin & Michael talk about The Storyline. Also, it wasn't Brent Lawrence who was sexually abused as a child, it was Ben Reade, Fletcher Reade's Adopted Son. (He was the son of the late Maeve Stoddard and Kyle Sampson).
Susan Piper was before my time. What things did she do? Do you know the actress that played her?
Carrie Nye played Susan Piper. She terrorized Tony & Annabelle Reardon, kidnapped Annabelle, hired Tony's best friend John to try to kill Tony, etc. I think she didn't want the Reardon to have the house that was accidentally sold to them because there was a murder she was trying to cover up. Annabelle had a psychic connection to it and found a secret passageway and more. Susan also sent bombs to people. One was sent to blow up major families of Springfield. The other was an exploding music box which killed Hillary Bauer.
my favorite villains are Edmund Roger Carmen Annie and alan
Annie dutton was a plain fool! Cra cra! I miss my guiding light. Now cynthias gettin ready to fool on Y&R! Shes already gotten started!
My favorite villains Tom pelphrey and he is so. Cute and a hunk and god Tom pelphrey so cute. That my opinion
i like carmen, annie but did anyone remember from 1983 darci decker lujakcs girlfriend who kidnapped beth?
Hell, GL is missing the villians period. This stuff that they attempt to portray as villian screams "what a moron!"
Annie Dutton all the way ...with runner up Brent Lawrance loved both stories...Great writing when soaps still had stories worth watching.
That's what GL's been missing for years. A DIABOLICAL villain with a PLAN! How about a storyline where Dinah ends up in the looney bin with Annie, Brent Lawrence and Phillip. LMAO!!!
Edmund was my fav!
I think Bradley Raines was the worst. He was absolutely disgusting in every way. Still cant get over that rape scene. Everytime he called Beth Kiddo I got chills
Hands down the best villan of all time Ms. Annie Dutton! With Carmen sneaking up the rear.
Yes it is a shame. I myself stopped watching in '98 or '99, after they broke up Pharley. I simply got tired of seeing the couples I loved and rooted for (Rusty/Mindy, LAM, Pharley, to name a few) either not being used, written off in a lame way, split up, or simply not "make it" as a couple. *sigh*
The Brent/Marian s/l was going on when I first started watching.
@sammysmom2010 : thats the little boy from the Omen remake too.
I watched this show in the early 70's with my mom...But my favorite villain was Marion/Brent....OMG what a great performance. And as I remember, the actor was not able to finish the storyline? Anyone remember that?
The actor did get sick in the end for a short period of time and was replaced. But he did finish the storyline. What is really sad he never did anything significant after GL. He was a good storyline.
I would have to say Brent Lawrence. Annie was a good villains but I just hate they switched her personality!!!! She wasn't crazy when she first started the show at all!!! My guess is Guisling tried to compete with Sheila Carter from YR/BB which there was no competition ☺️☺️☺️☺️
THEY FORGOT TO INCLUDE JANET JOHNSON,LEE GANTRY,STANLEY NORRIS,AND SEBASTIAN,(ROGERS SON) AND CARRIE TODD
I started watching GL when there was the Ross/Carrie/Joshua triangle.
FIEST my condolences TRAvis SECOMd LOve how thisvideo was Made
DR.WILL JEFFRIES
@sammysmom2010 That's Will Winslow.
Annie was definitely one of the best villains on the show, closely followed by Brent/Marion. Don't forget Susan Piper...she was evil!
Annie and Brent
AND CHARLOTTE WHEATON
Nick and Susan moved to Italy.
YW!
Why'd Annie KIdnapp Lizzie I forget?
Sunni/Solita was my fave
MINE TOO
Well I think I pick tom pelfrey
There will never be another Annie Dutton....Cynthia Watros is the best soap villianess ever bottom fucking line.
