I'm here Aug 3rd 2024 telling you this works perfectly. And a bonus tip: If you create a profile for conversion and select "Keep original video track" and "Keep original audio track" it goes much faster because it seems to just combine the two files instead of convert them. The file size will be exactly the two files added together. If you have a long video, even when it says it's done, you have to wait because it is still processing. Just wait until the preview thumbnail of the video shows up. You can also watch the disk usage of VLC in task manager to know when it's actually done as well.

However, on the merged file, when played, I'm getting a weird 5 second black screen in the beginning. Sound comes on as expected, but the beginning of video is cut off.
Sound and video are sync'd as expected though.

it doesn't work. the resulting video files is just the video. it has no sound.
Check the exact version of vlc you are using..
