    Just finished watching it with tears in my eyes, so fantastic and a brilliant montage, so thanks that really portrays that rock’n’roll spirit and you’ve either got it or you haven’t. I got it decades ago and I’ve still got it, musically speaking. 70 years old next birthday and still rocking 😂😂😂

    I knew about this film but the first chance I got to tape it off the television was early 1990s and instead of just setting the timer on my VCR like any normal person would, I stayed up for the 2am start so I could pause out the ad breaks in real time and fell asleep before it started. Which was quite vexing since I was a Ray Campi aficionado of approximately 12 years standing.
    The real charm of 'Blue Suede Shoes' is of course that it's first and foremost about the kids, with the camera following them around and catching candid observations. The dance hall scenes are beautiful: the mix of teddy boys (and girls) and rockabilly rebels on the scene at the time expediting an array of dancing styles. In proceeding years, those tribal factions would diverge to their own respective club nights and the dancing, at least from my perspective on the rockabilly end, became rather more regimented.

      @JSavic There are bands in the UK still playing the music. And there are rock n roll events to check out around the UK as well. You can get all of this info from Vintage Rock magazine.

      @JSavic I agree. However, if one looks around hard enough there might be some new and original generation Ted's out there, like finding tumble weeds. I know that is what I did way back in early 2000 and continued the search and it paid off.
      I myself am a rockabilly/Greaser kitten, and thanks to the internet I learned there are other Cats and Kittens in my area across the pond, thanks to the website MeetUP.Com
      I created my own Greaser meet up page and our group goes to car shows, old movies, rock and roll concerts, and next up we'll be meeting up to go bowling. ☺🙋‍♀️

    • @joeblack8915
      @joeblack8915 Před 2 lety

      The King never visited Caister, and his name wasn't Bill. Rock Around the Clock still had one foot in the jazz age, and every record Haley made followed the same monotonous formula. There's only one king - the one that truly changed music and popular culture forever. Elvis made his first record in the same year that Haley recorded Rock Around the Clock. Haley's record was different enough to interest teenagers, but when the true king became known, Haley (who looked more like a kindly uncle) was left floundering in his wake. I actually don't mind listening to Bill Haley, but him being 'the king of rock n roll'? Don't be bloody silly!🤣🤣

    Freddie Fingers Lee was a great performer, but smashing up a piano with an axe is just embarrassing to watch. Remember, this was the late 1970s, so isn't a reflection of how the original Teddy boys were in their outlook. A different generation.

    Way back in the day we were all ready to explode and rock n roll lit the fuse.Maybe there was something from the recent world war in our genes - either the violence and aggression of it - or else a frantic determination to celebrate life after the horror of millions of deaths. Just about every family had been damaged by it to some degree BUT it wasn't of OUR making - it was the older generations nightmare. They'd taken part in wholesale slaughter and yet had the effrontery to demonize us kids for playing beat music! They were the demons - we were just noisy angels1
    English rock n roll was a pretty crude imitation of a handful of American records. We did not have the background of folk, blues and jazz that naturally permeated their music so ours just sounded monotonously repetitive - it didn't 'swing' and it certainly didn't bounce - and the less said about the lyrics the better! Our rock just thudded and crashed... but for a while that was good enough - until we got hold of more American records and began to develop the right feel... or as close to it as we could get.

    • @joeblack8915
      @joeblack8915 Před 2 lety

      @willie otoole. Wholesale slaughter? You mean brave young men, who in many cases lost their lives fighting an implacable foe, led by a madman who was intent on taking over Europe?? Those young men enabled loathsome creatures like you to live in freedom. I'd swap a million like you in place of just one of those brave souls who fought for and gained our freedom from an impending tyranny. Braver, more decent souls than you could ever be. Have you ever studied history, or are you only capable of uttering such pathetic platitudes, no doubt based on some pathetic political ideology, or are you just as thick as mince? Probably. As to your opinions on rock n roll, the same dreary 'English rock n roll wasn't as good as American rock n roll because....' commentary I've read a hundred times before - cut and pasted from elsewhere, because I'll take a guess you weren't even around in the 1950s.
