It’s a fantastic country to live in, so many Aussies have never seen this great land.
Driving on the same road 20 years ago I got a double flat !
Phone service not extensive at that time.
Many pulled over to help but none could help fix two flats.
With the sun starting to set I started tp contemplate hitching a lift to Hermansburg and call a garage.
The next car that pulled over was part of a family group traveling together.
I told him the problem and he just smiled.
'Of course I can help mate, I'm a tire mechanic"
He then set to with his compressor and tire plugs.
He also offered me a cold beer from his travel fridge.....

For all of us west of the Great Dividing Range know all to well how much driving is involved between interesting and beautiful places and we know it's the biggest turn off for tourists. For that reason near all these places are largely untouched wildernesses. We appreciate them and the driving becomes something of a second nature. What I'm finding consistently interesting about both of you is you seem unphased by any of it, other than sharing it all with those bloody flies. That we all have in common. This is a top class real life adventure through the Australian outback that I feel that over time will become the go to series for all budding young adventurers it's that good. Keep on trucking guys, your doing really well.
Every week of the year there's many species of wattle trees flowering somewhere in Australia. That's why it was chosen as our floral emblem and our national colours of green and gold.

First nations people traversed the land for thousand of years without shoes so I think they'll be fine. Plus being from Arizona I would assume they're used to being careful where they walk so they don't upset a local scorpion etc

I grew up in the bush and only wore shoes to school and boots around horses or in the stockyards.
The majority of Australian natives flower in winter and spring, because water is often too scarce for plants to have the energy to put into flowering in the summer… late winter and early spring is usually the best time of year for wildflowers here! 😊

Temperature wise: if you were warm enough camping overnight in those freezing temperatures, you should be mostly fine in Tassie. The difference however: Tassie ground doesn’t warm up through the day, so the ground is freezing all through the winter & if you’re in a tent, you’ll feel the cold coming up from the ground- I recommend getting a mat or woollen blanket for underneath you….
40yrs ago, I went to Kings Canyon as a 13yr old …. It was stunning and it never leaves your memory.
My Hubby carried our 18 month old on his shoulders around the whole King Canyon walk. OMG this land is spectacular. Truely loved it.
PS the Star scape was gorgeous too.

I know it seems counterintuitive to non-Aussies, but many native plants flower during winter, because that’s often the best time for seedlings to sprout and get established before the worst of the heat and dryness.
The two of you have truly done a magnificent job of show casing the Australian outback. Bravo!. You have gone to another level on this trip.

Arkaroola in the Flinders Rangers in SA is worth a visit. The Ridge top tour (while awesome) would be out of your price range, but there are some 4w4 tracks you can do yourself in the area.
Skytrek at Willow Springs Station is great, costs about $80 for an all day 4wd self drive tour.
So good guys. Loved that you shared your Kings Canyon and Uluru with us. The Australian bush is a winter wonderland with its native wildflowers in bloom - all your senses are heightened but especially the nose. Love the perfume of native blossoms!! 🙂

Not only do we have the largest population of camels in the world, we actually have more camels than the rest of the world combined. Every now and then a camel herd invades outback towns and causes mayhem.

Glad you two did the rim walk. We remember it well, particularly the descent which was a bear after all those hours of hiking. But then again we were in our mid-fifties.
You needed to have the song "solid rock" by Goanna pumping as you approached Ayers Rock. That would have been epic! But I guess you get copyright penalties.

I've climbed the rock three times! twice in 1975 and again in 1999. The camp grounds used to be almost at the base of the rock.

Still can’t quite believe it’s been a year since your last trip. Time has flown so quickly.
At Uluru when you walk around the rock you can feel the life coming from the rock, it literally lifts the hair on the back of your neck and makes you feel the centuries of culture that has past. Truly a unique and precious place. Everyone should at least once in their life visit this place you won't be disappointed. Just sit in a quite place near the rock and you will feel it's sole.
I WAS SO EXCITED FOR THIS! We were at King's Canyon in late-June, 2011 and it became one of my favorite places on earth. We wanted to drive the short cut to Alice Springs but only had a 2WD rental that explicitly said "No Dirt Roads!" in the agreement. Still, I was tempted to do it anyway. We did both the canyon walk and the rim walk. We spent one night at the resort there, which was having a mouse infestation at the time. Dead mouse smell everywhere and live mice everywhere, including in the very modest dining room. My favorite memory was trying to figure out what to do about breakfast for our family of 5 before doing the rim walk. The restaurant was way too expensive (we could only accomplish this by tracking costs, much like you do) so I went to a little shop nearby that sold a tiny selection of food items and I bought a loaf of bread and a jar of Nutella. Our family sat on the rim of the canyon feasting on all-you-can-eat Nutella sandwiches for what was probably less than $10. Incidentally, the $AUD was spiking when we were there in 2011 and for that whole trip, was actually worth slightly MORE than a $USD. Made things rough for me as the budget keeper of our group. Thank you so much for helping me relive this fond memory! And yea, we did sunset at Uluru, too. Love you guys.

I visited Uluru in 2019. Even though I have aboriginal ancestry, it ended up being a much more spiritual experience than I expected. It went far beyond a tourist destination for me. I'm so glad they've stopped people climbing on it, even though I wouldn't have even if allowed. It's a must visit landmark for foreigners and Aussies alike.
The best travel vloggers I have come across. You guys are amazing. I too see your post and then watch; it is so engrossing that I can't wait for the next one. Have fun always.
My wife and I went there a number of years ago in our Mazda 3 but we took the bitumen road from Uluru. We walked the canyon bought fuel in the small town and travelled back to the roadhouse on the Stuart highway in one day arriving at the roadhouse in the dark. Not good travelling in the dark but we got there. 400 kms between everything out there. We loved it. And we were in our fifties.
I was waiting for the next BIG thing. I guess Uluru will do. But wait... no Tia for scale! Thanks, you two wonder bundles, for another dreamy ride. And double wow for your time lapse. Colours were amazing.
Kings canyon is an outstanding place. To stand at the top of the rim and look out at the vastness and beauty of our country is just magical!

Wow what a coincidence. We just left Kings Canyon this morning 23rd July. Stayed 2 nights. Saw a dead camel that was run over! Enormous! Loved our time but Uluru was magical. Lots of wonderful walks right close as well as sunset views. So pleased to see you enjoying so much.

Most Indigenous native plants flower during the cool season. Some are ephemeral and only flower when it rains. Enjoy! love love your travels.
I went to Kings Canyon and Uluru on a year 11 school trip. Never have been back since but I want to revisit one day. Thank you for showing us. Hope when you are back in SA you visit the Flinders Ranges; the towns of Quorn and Hawker and go for a bushwalk inside Wilpena Pound. I drove to the Flinders Ranges from Melbourne last year and loved it.
Also, since you love photography (and if you love trains as well) when you are In Port Augusta you should check out Yorkeys Crossing. The only spot in Australia where you can photograph an entire length of a 1-2km long train inside one picture; this is due to the S shaped curve to the north of the road. The Ghan, the Indian Pacific and all cross country freight trains come thru Port Augusta.
4:00 Fun Fact.On the road to King's Canyon you crossed the oldest river in the world, but the most time, it's dry.

Thanks Tia and Chevy (ozzie abbreviation) for all your videos showing parts of my own country that I haven't seen yet but would love to one day...including some I never knew about! Winter here is the time when the stars, star clusters and nebulae of Scorpius (aka Scorpio in horoscopes) and next door Sagittarius (towards the centre of our galaxy) shine directly overhead. Scorpius was beautifully framed in your timelapse! I'm lucky to live on a rural farm where you can see the full glory of the night sky...but the Outback probably is even better.
Wonderful to see Kings Canyon, just another place I missed years ago….. but you can’t see everything….absolutely amazing…. And you never ever get sick of The Big Rock…..enjoy….many more cooler nights ahead….. looking forward to what comes next.

12:13 the yellow flowers look like a type of wattle…. While you judge early or late spring with a groundhog in America, we can tell if it’s going to be an early spring, based on when the wattle starts to come out…. That said, I don’t know if that applies in the Northern Territory, but if it does, then we should start seeing some better weather soon…

I loved the Uluru sunset shots . Stocked you got a name brand air pump , not saying what pressures to run a gravel road but i find 25psi a good starter . Speed on a corrugated roads can vary too , if your speed 75/90kph you can find the "sweet spot" and you can virtually smooth out the corrugations . Great trip you guys :-)

The King's Canyon rim walk was my favourite part of my visit to the NT! It had rained and there were waterfalls. Truly stunning. Enjoy! ❤

Tips for compressor.. Turn them on before connecting to tyres.
And dont buy anything from Kings 4wd unless u want cheap rubbish.
You probably already know this, but be careful when camping around big gum trees....they can drop their limbs. Best to not setup your tent under them.
Aussie here. Never have put peanut butter and Vegemite on the same piece of toast. But now I want to try it! Love your channel. Travelling with you is so much fun. Do be careful of those bare toes with the snakes and bull ants!

Most species of Wattle (the yellow flower at 12:15) bloom in winter. The national flower of Australia, the Golden Wattle, blooms a bit later in August.

Awesome episode once again guys. Now I can get back to work!
We drove the kings canyon shortcut dirt road back in 1998 in a little Nissan Pulsar (Sentra in USA speak). Let’s just say it started out white and we handed it back brown, caked in mud. It made it though…. After shallow but vast water crossings and many bumpy patches…. Happy memories…. Back then the road was free, the park entry was free and there was little or no accommodation at Uluṟu. Back then we were permitted to climb Uluṟu which was mind blowing…. We have some photos from half way up and tourist buses down the bottom look like little toys…. Must go back some day and pay our respects to the Local people and again enjoy the monolithic icons of our outback.
