    Nothing wrong with expecting cyclists to abide by laws like one way systems, red lights, pedestrian crossings etc.
    Dunno really why its even party political.

      @davidkelly499 Před 22 dny +3

      It isnt a political issue at all. Most people that dont like cyclists are drivers because they see how badly so many cyclists behave on the roads. A far bigger percentage of cyclists break laws than drivers.
      Im all for cyclists. But Id like people to stop dressing in dark clothes and cycling on the roads at night with no lights.

      @davidkelly499 the standard of driving is abysmal. I see 10 plus drivers a day on their phones, whilst driving a 1 tonne plus killing machine.
      Then you have all the bad driving. Trust me more drivers break the laws than cyclists.

      @@davidkelly499 As a Police Officer, and formerly a driving assessor for a living, I can assure you the opposite is true. The overwhelming majority of cyclists actually tend to behave, and you’ll get the odd one that breaks the law. Every motorist breaks several driving rules and/or laws everyday.

    As a cyclist for my whole life (I currently live in New York but I keep a bike in London bc I often work in London) I will say this: If I'm on foot I'm incredibly annoyed by motorists AND cyclists, if I'm in a car I'm incredibly annoyed by pedestrians AND cyclists and if I'm on a bike I think of motorists and pedestrians as plebs. It's a problem mostly of subjectivity - (as well as civil planning and perhaps corporate interests who only want people in cars) but it's mostly the fact that as human beings we find it VERY hard to put ourselves in the shoes of any one else.

      Just this morning out on my BMX within 10 minutes I witnessed two motorists driving well in excess of the 30 mph speed limit,three using mobile phones,2 Red light jumpers. And if you want to cross the road using a Zebra crossing, it's like playing the lottery but with a bigger chance of losing. Now our government would like to blame young drivers for most accidents and poor driving,but from a pedestrian, cyclist and public transport user I've found it's equal amongst all ages and gender. Cyclists, some as with motorists,are equally as bad road users only they're far more obvious and blatant. The only difference is poor, careless or reckless driving can and does result in serious and fatal injuries. There is no answer to bad road users,no preventative measure can stop people who do not care.

    Cyclists present less risk to those around them than cars do. As a pedestrian, I've had close calls with cyclists using pavements not intended for shared use. One, if I'd stepped forward a second or so earlier, would have hit me at easily 30mph, and aside from the damage to me would likely have ended up flying into traffic, also moving at 30mph. This is by far the worst I've seen wth a cyclist, and nothing else comes close.
    With drivers, however, I've been run over twice on pavements this year, once by a van and once by a car. The driver of the car waited for me to go past, then immediately ran me over. He claimed he never saw me, while his passenger told me I was hit because I'm disabled. The van swerved from the far side of the road, mounted the kerb and knocked my crutch from under me, then claimed he was nowhere near me despite me showing him the paint from his van on my crutch. The van luckily didn't do serious damage, but the car put me in hospital.
    I'm all for expecting cyclists to follow the law, but they're not the worst offenders. Not even close.

      Too many British cities are anti-pedestrian. Every junction without a pedestrian phase shows that the local council chose traffic flow over pedestrian safety. I hate the tories, but tbf certain cyclists can be very anti-social - riding on pavements instead of the road, blocking footpaths and bridges by attaching their bikes along them, and riding through red lights at pedestrian crossings. I don't think regulation is the answer, however, just a little consideration for fellow human beings, especially those already with mobility difficulties. Admittedly, a lot of the problems could be dealt with by better provision of cycle paths and bike parking.
