You are very welcome Charles, glad I could bring back some happy memories for you and thank you for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it.
@@MrPaulsPantry Couldn't stand and made it... Tasted the way I do remember! I didn't have the proper equipment. I took a soup plate instead of the pie pan. It worked like hell. Thanks again a thousand times.
Went 5 years in GB in the middle of 70's. It was in Hereford - Herefordshire. @ Belmont Abbey where they were dispensing English Courses. Since then, sometimes on sundays, have my English Breakfast and 5o'clock Tea. A way to tribute for all the good I recieved...
My all time favourite, my mother was good at making apple pie, sometimes in the summer we added blackberries, that combination is so delicious! Thanks for the method on cooking the apples, this is going on my priority list of things to cook, unfortunately I can’t get Granny Smith’s apples where I live but I’ll find an alternative.
Hi David, I can't get the usual apples we used in the UK here in Spain so I found the next best thing. Good luck and thank you for commenting.
My brother has took a real liking for your apple pie so far I have made him 2 which he has really really enjoyed thank you Connie

Hi, you can share your photos on my Facebook Page at: facebook.com/MrPaulsPantry/ Thanks
I’ve always made apple pie with raw apples before but I’ll have to try this method because I bet it sinks less than my old method. Thanks, Mr Paul!
Yes Kirsten, with my method you don't get the big gap between the lid and the filling. Thanks for watching.
YES. "The Best Apple Pie."
Thank you Gerard, nice to hear from you and thank you for watching.
Hiya Mr Paul.
Great to see you looking well...
Best parts off winter here in england is good oldfashioned deserts
Not just in England, here in Spain too it gets pretty cold where I am, in fact had the central heating on last night and a bowl of Pea& Ham Soup too.
Thank you, Mr. Paul! This is the time of the year for apple pie.
Thanks for watching

Awesome, never thought of butter and cornflour, mmm gonna have to try this one. Take care and thank you for sharing 👍👏❤️
I love your recipes for favourite dishes that we all love. Thank you! This looks delicious, and custard of course. Yum.😊
Glad you like them, thank you for watching.
A timeless family favourite, I really like your method of thickening the sauce and adding the apples back, that is were I think I've been going wrong, did you ever post about making home made custard.
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with everyone
Yes Mike, go to my website and on the home page is a search box, just type in the word Custard.
Here's the link: mr-pauls-pantry.com/home-made-custard/
My mum made hers with apple that had been cooked then cooled. I loved Sunday bake day wonderful memories in a bowl with evap poured over it 👍🏼❤️
Hi Brenda, Yes a pie filling should always be cooled otherwise you'll get very soggy pastry.
The pie looks delicious, but I am obsessing over the custard! 😋
Hi there, Thanks for watching, you can see my recipe for the custard at this link: mr-pauls-pantry.com/home-made-custard/
TQ very much Mr Paul for recipe. Constantly having problems with my pastry. Your recipe for pastry is quite easy to follow. TQ so much. When I first came to England to do my training the hostel dining room made delicious puddings like Eve's pudding and Apple Charlotte's. Eve's pudding is just like apple pie I thought. TQ
My pleasure Dorothy😊 Eves pudding has a cake topping not a pastry on. See my recipe at this link: mr-pauls-pantry.com/eves-pudding/
thats beautiful mr paul ive looked at other videos and give up half way you make things look easy thats another one on the hit list to which i will post on our fb page
Wow, thank you Dave. Also thanks for the FB share too.
Perfect! ❤
A friend of mine recommended your channel. I am very pleased that she did. My partner wanted to know where 'the bird' was to hold up the pasty. He doesn't do cooking! (If we keep watching, he might make something not just Angel Del...t)
Welcome aboard Sarah. Tell your partner it's better to let the apples hold up the crust than a china bird!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, I really appreciate that.
He says he might have a go!!
If he does, please let me know how it goes and if possible a photo vis my Facebook page or email. Thanks
Many thanks a thumbs up from me ..👍
That looks delicious! I've never put butter or cornflour in with the apples before so I'll give this a go - thank you, Mr Paul :)
You're most welcome Sharon, thank you for watching.
Definitely one of my favourites- especially with custard 👍 Your technique for the apples is similar to my mother's; although she used Bramleys
As others have said, I find raw apples leave a gap after cooking. The only recipe I've used with raw apples that doesn't is from the Hairy Bikers
Thank you Graham, nice to hear from you again.
Thank you Mr Paul, it's been awhile since I've made apple pie, and it looks delicious. With Christmas just around the corner, it's time to dust off the Holiday recipes.
"Santa's workshop"
Start by dressing the rim of the mugs with ground peppermint candy
Hot chocolate, with a double shot of espresso, shot of peppermint schnapps or Baileys a scoop of peppermint candy or vanilla ice cream, topped with toasted coconut, and a drizzle of caramel or chocolate sauce, lastly served with a chocolate Santa and a candy cane
Sounds good. Thanks for watching
Perfect 👌🏻
Thank you for the apple pie recipe Mr Paul I've been waiting for that one. Missed your armchair intro today!
Glad you like it Belinda, sorry about the armchair intro, didn't have time to sit down, even for a cup of tea today.
Love it ❤
Oh yes, just saw the link, Thankyou
Best recipe sir...
Dr Pratap, India
Thanks for watching.
Proper delicious and unpretentious apple pie. My mother and my maternal grandmother made their apple pies in a very similar way, but perhaps not as nicely spiced as yours. I have to try this recipe. Another great video my friend 😋 Shared.
Thanks Pete, The old fashioned recipes are still the winners I think. As for Those old days you mention, remember Pete, the apples had more flavour themselves than they do today, Thanks for watching and also for the Share too.
@@MrPaulsPantry That's a fact!
@@MrPaulsPantry unless they are grown in your back garden 😉
My Granny Smith Apple tree will be ready for harvesting in week around November 15th so very soon.
I see one on there that must be around 300g in weight.
Excellent pie and video thank you very much I always thought that you had to blind bake the bass is that not true?
I made the filling and the pastry Friday night and good lady has just put it together tonight for me since I haven’t had time to do it myself and it’s sat in the oven waiting to be tasted...will have to wait 16hours to try it 😢
Really looking forward to it with Lidl’s Madagascan vanilla custard
Sounds great, do let me know how it it please.
@@MrPaulsPantry magnificent! 🙌
It’s great firm pastry your shortcrust, and the piece de resistance in the filling was your method of thickening the apple juice to act as a flavour suspension device...the flavour pops!
I’ve eaten almost half of the pie already in two sittings in the space of 4 hours.
Thanks Mr Paul for a wonderful alternative to my usual fruit crumble.
For me a nice slice of slightly warm cheddar cheese on top and a cup of tea. Thanks Mr. Paul!
Sounds great Betty, thanks for watching.
Looks delicious. Is it using 180c fan oven or normal conventional oven?
I always top apple pies with sugar, but I use milk instead of egg wash.
Looks great . I would like to make a deep apple pie. What’s your opinion on using ceramic or Pyrex dishes?
As a professional baker we would never use either as they are very poor heat conductors. Metal is much better.
@@MrPaulsPantry ok thank you I’m finding it hard to find a deep dish.
@@maryrose7842 Use a cake tin
Beautiful as always. Thank you, Mr Paul. However, I noticed you used Granny Smiths apples. Why not baking apples? Is there a difference?
Hello Elaine,
Over the past 60 years I've tried all varieties of apples and for taste and texture Granny Smiths are crisp and quite a sour apple which makes it a great cooking apple.
Thank you. Mr Paul :)
Have made a mango pie before. Bramley apples go brown as soon as they're peeled, so yes, Granny Smith's are a better option. Too much ground cloves also turn it brown...
If you place the cut apple in a bowl of acidic water (lemon juice) that will prevent all apples turning brown. I use 1/4 teaspoon of clove to 1 kg apples.
@@MrPaulsPantry Thanks, might try it...
How do you make your short crust pastry?
