- Shortcrust Pastry
250g of Plain Flour
150g of Butter
160ml of Water
Filling
5 Granny Smiths or
3 large Cooking Apples
4 tbsp of Sugar
Egg wash (optional)
2 egg yolks
Pinch of sugar
Pinch of salt
Use a lightly greased ovenproof plate for this and bake it at 200C Conventional oven for 30 minutes
You will never achieve the same crisp bottom baking on a plate as opposed to metal which heats up faster. To avoid a soggy bottom keep the base cool in the fridge as I did in the video. You can also brush the base with some beaten eggwhite
I never thought i'd have a Dub living in Denmark telling a Corkonian how to bake a tart. top notch lad!!
Haha great stuff! Cheers for watching it pal!
Sure someone has to show ya's ,you must be fed up with donkeys grudge 😜
My Grandma used to bake apple tart... After school, she always made me smile with a big slice... Your tart brought back this joyful memory... And I'll will give a try to this recipe... Thank you kindly, mate...

Chris love this recipe, personally I put corn flour in the apples to control the juices in the tart
Yes that’s correct. You can use cornstarch for that. Cheers Paddy! ☘️
Was craving a tart after the Christmas hols at home. I'm living in Vienna and also went for the granny smith apples but got some Kerrygold easy enough ;) Tart turned out great, first time I've ever made one by myself! Hi Chris, I have been enjoying your really excellent videos. I admire your sifter. Is that a Danish model? Would love to get one like it. I'm in California, but will be in Ireland next month.
It’s from Brazil actually 😄 Ah you can get them anywhere really. Thanks a million for watching! 😊☘️
Chris Great and Simple Recipe. You forgot to say the Fork Holes at the end are to let the Leprechauns out.. Otherwise very good.
Cheers Thanks a lot! 😄🇮🇪
Hi Chris, Jackie here from Dublin, I watched your video right to the end and was disappointed that you didn’t slice the tart on camera. The reason being, I find the bottom pastry soggy and raw. So much so that it’s hard to get it up off the plate. Would it be ok to pre cook the bottom half 1st? Thanks Jackie ☘️🇮🇪
Howaya Jackie! Yeah this can happen when you bake it on a plate. Metal heats it up quicker ya see and it bakes more evenly. You could blind bake it first then add the filling and cover. You can also lightly beat an egg white and brush the bottom with it. Put it in the fridge after just like in the video. After you fill and cover the tart put it back in the fridge for about 20 minutes before baking it. The egg white seals it and prevents the juices from seeping through. I’ll do another video on it. I should’ve said it here ☘️
I can bake anything no problem but I can’t make good pastry 😩 that tart looks amazing just like mammy used to make 😋
Give it a go! You can do it 👌🏻😊☘️
@@irishbakerabroad I’ll try your recipe
@@DiddlyPenguin Let me know how you get on!
Omg i hate you more Kerrygold and Birds custard and 2 slices and looked perfect , Typical Dub loving his food. Cheers M8.
Cheers Simon! 😄
Ahh butter milk??
i make Apple Tart different from yourself, i'm fae Scotland and i refuse to call it Apple pie, it was always Apple Tart when i was growing up, i make a deep apple tart, so i cut my apples into wedges and i uses coxes apples they are fairly sweet and hard and i part cook them in a home made syrup sauce and i pre bake the lower half of the pastry
Sounds lovely! Yes, I make different types of apple tarts and pies. This was just one I grew up with being baked on a plate ☘️
@@irishbakerabroad the syrup is basically made up of butter a lot of sugar 100 mls of water and 150 mls of Flambé Magners (Irish cider) and add it to the syrup mixture containing the apples, my dad used to make his apple tart on a steel plate and his apple tarts were made the same way as yours
@@SaorAlba1970 Yes, steel will heat and bake the bottom better. I generally bake pies and tarts in metal dishes or pans. That sounds lovely! 😊
It looks good, Chris. But whatever happened to the cloves and cinnamon? Tipperary apple tart always included these spices.
Love you beautiful 😍
Chris I thought you would a baker you never made your own custard
I did Vinnie! Sorry it’s on Facebook ☘️
@@irishbakerabroad I'm a baker I Work in Ann's bakery shop in Mary's street in Dublin City centre

That coffee icing you were asking about his here too on the channel and there’s a pink fondant icing for tipsy cake too which is the same process
