Back when I was in School, I had a friend who was terrified of RE4's Regenerators, and I can do an accurate impression of one... So when I stayed at their house one night, I did that at about 4am in the morning to wake them up...
And aren't they also present in RE 6? Only they sound like squealing pigs, and can only be killed by shooting parts off then grabbing them and putting them in a nearby furnace? My Sister HATES them... had nightmares for weeks... I think the Licker is creepier, but hell, i LOVE Em...
@@matthewrowlett1564 I think you're thinking of the Rasklapanje, which is super similar, but it's body separates and the parts attack you individually. That was a cool enemy.

As a dying light veteran, I can confirm that I was so freaked out by my first encounter with a volatile that I had to pause the game and take a break because I screamed and fell out of my chair.
I pulled the plug outta the wall...
I have to say that the Volatile is not indeed the strongest ether Crane or the Night Hunter
I took a long breather and unlocked a safe house close to where the chase starts prior to this. I waited until the chase was done, and high-tailed it to the tower. Gladly, I am at a level that with a well placed attack can kill them straight on, but back then I was terrified. I still don't go out at night, unless I have to kill a bolter. Still careful, though. I use the cloak potion, but the evolved volatile is still a problem.

Oh trust me kid you are not a veteran until you have tried modded difficulty... After completing all side quests and missions completing the game 100 times and killing 200 thousand of every zombie and done every difficulty lots and lots of times and spent since the exact release played constantly. I have gotten every weapon and gotten every legend level HOUR AT A TIME... Well hello fellow veteran how long have you played?
The stalkers in Last of Us Part 2 were kind of funny at times. I’d catch them hiding behind a chair or something just bouncing up and down like a little kid waiting to scare their parents.
“UV light scare them away” shows a clip where that clearly didn’t work🤣. Good one
It's works but the flashlight is not that powerful, there are UV light traps to use but clearly the best strategy is to run as fast as you can
The shoulder light burns them for like 3 seconds then you have to run again

probably true.. but I do play most Resident Evil games thinking “god I hope that’s the last of that” after every zombie encounter..
It can be much worse with the mods people made for the PC versions of re2 and re3 remakes. Now you can be attacked by The Simpsons and Spungebob chars (and other cartoon chars) instead of zombies 😂

Just going to say, the Regenerators have made it onto so many terrifying creatures lists that I have truly lost count. Kudos to RE4 for that one lol

I found The Molded from RE7 pretty spooky, from the design, the unexpectedness ones around the corners, to the sheer strength when going against normal pistol bullets.
I just finished RE7 for the first time myself (always wanted to but never really put the time to do so) and my god, The Molded felt like a doppelgänger of the regenerators.

The Witch in Left4Dead always made my blood run cold when I heard her. She wasn't the scariest ever, but the crying/wailing leading up to it always made me rethink my decisions in life
i remember playing Left4Dead as a 9-year-old and screaming when me and my cousins heard the Witch. put me off zombies until a few years later when i became obsessed with zombies.

I've never played,, but those guys reminded me of the "cranks" from the Maze Runner movies which were unfortunately not book accurate. In the movies, they looked like that except instead of mushrooms, they had stiff flesh tendrils sticking off their bodies. They also fused with the walls the same way. Cool concept, should have put it in a different movie.
I was expecting the Witch from Left 4 Dead to be on this list.

The regeneratiors were legit terrifying in RE4.
Terrifying until you find out you can shoot their legs out with a Shotgun and then stun lock them with the knife until they die. Learning that took their scare factor to zero for me. 😆

In Ocarina of Time, I didn't go to ganondorf's Castle because as soon as I saw the redeads, I left immediately.
I remember watching this videos years ago and it was 2am and I was scared at 15. I'm now 17 and it is almost 1am and it is also a school night. I actually bought dying light because of this and I actually love the game. Thanks outside xbox

Quick note on ReDeads:
- In Ocarina of Time, they are indeed wearing masks. You can don a similar mask, known as the “Spooky Mask.” It plays a part in a sidequest that eventually unlocks the Mask of Truth.
- OoT ReDeads’ status as actual undead is debatable as their Trophies in Super Smash Bros Melee and Brawl both state that they’re magically-animated mannequins simply fashioned after corpses.
- This, however, makes the masks creepier as they are then basically confirmed to be burial masks either way, with the obtainable “Spooky Mask” even being said to have been carved from wood sourced from a coffin.
Also they do appear in one of the story modes.
Its easy to see the misconception tho, re-dead people assumed as "Reanimated Dead" aka zombies, and they sort of go after your brains when they grab you lol, But as you stated, its "Reanimated Mannequins of corpses" lol
Also the ReDeads in Windwaker unfortunately do not have a mask and have a scream that's infinitely worse than any other ReDead scream.
No trophy description will ever convince me that ReDeads aren’t zombies wearing masks carved from their own coffins.

The only thing that will kill them is separating a substantial amount of body mass from the main entity. I'm gonna say that counts as being a zombie. it doesn't have to be magical to be a zombie.

Yes! the Regenerator! That truly scared the heck out of me and so few of my friends had played RE4 i i could never convey how much NOPE they were.

In all seriousness, though, they come in massive hordes, deal a lot of damage, and have a fondness for ambushes.
I spent all night wondering where the sun went, then it dawned on me. Well at least the pieces of me left after volatiles had ripped me to shreds through the night.
Dead space still holds a terrifying spot in my "damn that's scary" list. Tlou infected is close to the top not only by looks but the sound of them scares me

this video was hilarious 😂 the commentary/narration was impeccable, I will say though, that hotel level in LOU2 has to be top scariest levels of any game I've ever played personally, the stalkers played part in that for sure, I cant wait for a part 3 im praying they do make one, HBO dropping the series based on the game is gonna be awesome as well!

I remember playing TLOU 2's office level with the stalkers for the first time, all alone with the lights off. Sheer pant-shitting terror.
Yeah the first time I saw a stalker in the game was chilling, the way it just darted past.
Yo I just played RE4 for the first time knowing the regenerators were coming but they still spooked me. They give me so much anxiety. They look slow but move incredibly fast when they want to and shooting off their legs makes them move faster. They end up slithering like a snake instead. They are horrible and I love them
LFD2 - The Jockey, no other zombie has caused me more pure anxiety in a game as hearing one but not knowing where it is.

Regenerators really will forever take the cake on this one. Their theme song, their sound, the environment we meet them, everything is just hell about them.
Have played through RE4 3 times this year and this part is what always gives me the creeps. I can't play the island part at night or alone

Spiked regenerator and armored iron maiden made me quit the game.
In my opinion the molded from re7 scare me the most they could come from anywhere and there so quite making it super easy to sneak up on you

The scariest part of the regenerators is that I had no idea they could die so I tried to do the levels while they slowly lumbered at me.

Omg the Redeads.. thank you for that journey back into my childhood nightmares... The babies in Dead Space made me want to quit, but it was the ones who regenerated after having all of their extremities removed with a rail gun that made me say "nope"

ive been playing re 4 my whole life since it came out, and i cannot describe the feeling of pure dread that settles in my stomach and refused to leave when playing it yet again in VR, that childhood trauma of it really kicked in hard i guess

The flood are truly terrifying the more you go into details, but to me the major thing is that it was my first encounter with any zombie in my life since i was like 5-7 at the time you can guess how it went, in fact i didn't complete halo 1 because of them, and now i have no means to play it again

Resident evil 1 remake on GameCube. How can we not mention that? You have to “kill them”, then burn them. Or they get up again just to be in your nightmares. That scarred me.

NONE takes the spot of cliquers in the last of us part 1 and 2 , especially when fall off in the basement of the hotel to handful of rooms filled with stalkers . And the worst part is , when you activate the generator , hehe , even bloaters will arrive , and as a last of us veteran , I admit that this part spooks me to this very day
The very first Resident Evil on Play Station 1. Back when you could rent games I picked it up. Tupperware party upstairs so I went down and fired it up. The moment (everyone might remember) when you go down the hall to the last bedroom and you catch a zombie chowing down on someone in the bed. When it turned around I hit the power button, ran upstairs, grabbed a beer and paced around for awhile. The company we had thought I was mental but up to that point my brain hadn't seen anything that nasty. Our brains are mush now and it takes something extraordinary to freak us out.
To this day, I think regenerators are one of the only game enemies that still makes my skin crawl every single time.
Yeah i remember stocking up on those thermal grenades ...well untill u finish the game 4 or 5 times and u get the tommie gun that shoots airwith unlimited ammo and then the unlimited rocket launcher .... then well its a how meany times can i blow off its lims b4 it gets to me simulator...res 4 really was ahead of its time
Agreed. As scary as the other enemies are, they can all be beaten quite simply by just shooting them. Regenerators require precision and discipline. Missing just a few times can put you in an "Oh shit!" situation. Engaging them can make you sweat...which you have to do since most are encountered in tight halls.

Exactly. For me that plagas along with the Iron Maidens made me crap my pants when I played this game back then. When I had to fight one of Salazar's Ganados in the basement I had to have my cousin play that level for me.
The Headless from Sekiro, if they count as zombies, gave me a heart attack when I first waltzed into one of their arenas
They are Undead so I'd say it counts and yeah those guys were a different kinda fight to every other type of enemy especially the underwater one but the most difficult for me was actually the mist one

Bro I hate those fights so much. Any enemy that inflicts terror is a pain in the ass but headless’s ability to restrict movement makes it extremely annoying to fight without the Lilac umbrella.

The air drop mission in dying light had my heart beating at 532 miles a micro second

On Dead Space 2 crawlers made me go, "Oh hey a weapon." The Ubermorph was the true terror for me.
You should see the orphanage level in Painkiller. That shit is pure nightmare fuel.

The Ubermorph is invincible unless it its diced to millions of bits instantly. Theres a fan in the second game you can push it into with the force gun to prematurely get rid of it.

The Elderscrolls: Oblivion - those zombies ignited my fear of zombies. They are awful. (Especially the headless ones) it's like "Hi, I'm zombo. I'm super slow and underwhelming... HAHAHA PSYCH IM ACTUALLY SUPER F****** FAST". Being an archer, the panic was real.

Especially their running animation, it's just uncanny. I'm replaying Oblivion now after many years and that first zombie in the tunnels almost made me quit.

You should make one of these about games you wouldn't expect to have zombies, but they surprisingly do. Like Time Splitters 2, by instance.
Mm. I gotta say the Raptor Morphs you encounter in Deadspace 2 got me pretty good. At first they just stare at you, and you think "huh. I guess they're waiting for a cinematic" then you hear the loud howl screeching of 4 of them and they rhino charge you like crazy psychopaths.
When I was 9 years old my parents got me resident evil for Christmas. My gaming experience up until then was crash bandicoot, rayman and age of empires, I didn't know horror games were a thing. I got to the scene where you meet the first zombie and he looks up from his human shaped lunchbox and turned the PlayStation off and put it outside my room for a week, I haven't played that game in the 22 years since
That first zombie is why i know the intro fmv so well, had to turn off the game and come back some weeks or years later.. Tried a few times, but still don't think I've ever beaten that one..

For me, the fast zombies in ravenholm from HL2 actively slowed down my game pace because I was scared to continue at times

Oh my God, everytime i heard that nightmarish sobbing, i immediately started scanning the area, and when i saw her, i’d either try to avoid, or prepare my trigger finger to fill her with shotgun shells-

Even worse when she detects someone, which can't always be avoided, and jump scares you with her scream.
Don't remind me. One time I tossed a pipe bomb off into the distance to distract a horde only to have it land right next to a witch. I spent the rest of the map getting ready for the inevitable jump scare.

in dying light those volatiles instantly make me leave even if i'm near them or i'll stay in a safe area the entire time and i love and hate at the same time that it shows their view on the mini map and i love it since i always know where they are as long as their on my mini map and i hate it because it makes them even scarier for some reason
The regemerators from R.E.4 is the most fear of all it gives me chill everytime i played and hear them coming around
I still remember my first time playing through Half-Life 2 and getting to Ravenholm and hearing the howling of the fast zombies. At the time I naively thought that because I was in a room on a rooftop I was safe, until one burst through the ceiling and made me take a break for a week or two.

That was the first ever game I played that had horror elements. I was NOT ok. Weirdly, later doing it while getting the achievement for not firing a single bullet was much less stressful. Gravity-gunning the saws around is very cathartic. And absurdly effective.
ekrathrawl it is indeed very effective... unless you miss and it sails out of reach. Waiting for the lift to come over was very stress inducing. I ended up running out of saws and didn’t want to ruin my achievement but managed to find a spot where I was safe to stand, lol.
Oh yeah. When I first played Dying Light several years ago I had to quit & come back later when the first (hopefully only, I don't mind spoilers but I've never actually finished the campaign) mandatory night mission. Even now that I'm more used to the game I still refuse to run around at night.
Considering volatiles exist that's a good idea to stay indoors at night time.
I have never swore and screamed so much as the first time I got chased by volatiles in dying light.
Except for maybe the one time I accidentally ran into a horde and fell off my bike and had to run back to camp in Days Gone and somehow made it back alive.
4:18 ik I've been playing dying light for years now but I can 1-3 hit volatiles 😂
Tip: use flares on a 2+ horde of volatiles and also play bozak horde and complete/die on trial 5 for a docket which u can use at the quartermaster to get gold HELLA powerfully weapons that can kill volatiles like nothing, if u get a machete, use it more than others, it can chop off viral and biters heads in 1 slice (when you aim for the head)

Scariest Zombies for me had to be the Licker from Resident Evil 2.
I remember my first encounter with it. Played with my siblings and when we got that iconic cut-scene, oh my god, why did they threw the control to me?! Why!?
This thing still haunts my nightmares and RE2 The Remake made it even worse. X_X
