- The elements are prepped for bending once again as Netflix will be releasing a new live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender this month. Once again bringing Aang, Sokka, Katara, and Prince Zuko to the forefront, the new take on the Nickelodeon classic aims to honor the source material while injecting new elements in the timeless tale. To get fans hyped for the first season release, Netflix has released a brand new video that gives bending fans a behind-the-scenes look at the actors and creative team that brought the series to life.
While the series is aiming to stay true to its source material, the showrunners have hinted at the idea that there will be some changes made to this live-action adaptation. Showrunner Albert Kim has stated in recent interviews that Netflix's series will be a tad more mature than the original animated series, stating that the series is looking to appeal to both fans of the original and fans of Game of Thrones.

Maybe I’m reading too much into this. But Zuko only wanted to capture the Avatar to regain his honor, NOT to ensure the Fire Nation was successful in the war. His main character arc revolves around honor, and seeking validation from this neglectful father. I hope they don’t botch Zuko’s character arc in this series.
I think what he says indirectly addresses that, by being a part of the reason why the nation succeeded, he will gain his father's respect

In all seriousness, chill. He was very much into helping the fire nation as a whole too. It's not like he didn't care for his whole nation. So if this is part of his motivation, how could everything be 'ruined' just because of that?
Do not expect a carbon copy of the animated series please, or you will suffer greatly. Expect an interptetation.
If this live action show will really be bad, you can always come back to the animated series. Nothing ruined there.
You know, the Zuko in the original show wasn't really with this "the fire nation must win" mood. He was just neutral. He didn't really care for the war. All he cared was just capturing Aang to come back, that's all. In fact, in episode 3 of season 1 he says a line "if my father thinks the rest of the world will follow him willingly, then he's a fool". But it seems in this adaptation they made him a bit more aggressive towards the war thing and not so neutral.
They turned him into a Lannister.
Hes the prince of the nation of course he wants his nation to win
it adds more to his redemption arc i think, its only a positive, that he was more "patriotic" in season 1.

I'm sure Zuko appreciates the fact that he's wearing more than just a loin cloth!
So he doesnt mention honor or banishment at all... Is this Zuko? That was one of his main character traits. He could care less for the war; all he wanted was to capture the Avatar because maybe then his father would approve of him. He always saw himself as inferior and carried great shame, and until late in the show did he realize that it wasnt him being dishonorable that got him scarred or banished, but it was his fathers cruelty.
Apparently they are eliminating the part where his scar is due to a fight with his father, and that his father banished Zuko, because those elements would be “problematic”.
I’m still reservedly hopeful about the show, but my enthusiasm is waning with every interview and press release from the showrunners.

So Aang no longer acts like the child he is and runs from his responsibility as the Avatar, Sokka no longer has a character development arc from him being sexist, Katara is going to apparently be depicted as less motherly, and Zuko is now no longer a banished prince who has to regain his honor? Whats next, are they going to eliminate every blind joke in the show about Toph because they think its ableist??

Its a short clip, chill. One of his main character traits is that hes a member of the fire nation. Thats his identity before anything else. So many of you forget that this dude becomes the fire lord.

Zuko never truly cared about the fire nation winning. Zuko only wants to make his dad happy and recover his honor by capturing the avatar. The entire idea of Zuko is him putting his personal mission above the general fire nation mission.
For that he must care about fire nation winning
OK I don't wanna judge too hastily but "I have to deliver the Avatar to my father so that we win the war" is just wrong.
It's to reclaim his honor.
And sure it can be both things but I'm really getting worried that they're gonna ruin a lot of the character development in this series.

@@ManiyaVinas It's Zuko's entire motivation...Capturing Aang is his only way back home. Fire Lord Ozai told him that he dishonored himself by failing to fight back in their agni kai, banished him, and told him that the only way to restore his honor was by capturing the Avatar.

@@xeniamartin5297 Previously, from a long shot, the scar seemed simply painted on, but now in close-up shots, scraps and wrinkles from the burn are visible. As for the eyebrow - there are always mistakes, it’s worth saying thank you that at least the scar looks like a scar, and not like an extensive eternal hematoma.
It looks more like a birthmark.
How difficult was it for Dallas to say "to regain my honor "?
If Zuko's dialogue (the one everyone is worried about) is in a trailer, then I can, at the very least, give the benifit of the doubt that it's an early , less developed version of Zuko. Possibly a novel take on his naiive thoughts/ideals that he had to start with, entangling his rise in the Fire Nation with his honor/self identiy. I don't think it's as such a big a deal as fans are worried about, and I consider this show in my top 10 all time greatest shows, and I'm also worried...but I'm not expecting a replica. I can accept MINOR changes so long as "minor" is defined by not affecting character arcs/development, the lore, the distinct personalites, the coming of age maturing, and the end of every episode/story giving eveyrone an emotional tug at the heart.
My son is going to love this, can’t wait to watch it with him ❤

Yeeea the entire point of this story is that Aang doesn't WANT to be the Avatar. Netflix might aswell have made a completely new story if you're gonna change the fundamentals.

The creators didn’t know the lore of avatar so they made, scene that captures the original but brings some differences. I’m hyped for this show in Feb 22 bro

He says he's doing it for the Fire Nation but that's out of his character, he needs to undo his banishment and that's what he cares about most, that's why he rescues Aang as the blue spirit. If he was in it for the Fire Nation would he not just be happy he's captured period?

It's not really integral to his character at all.
it's drawn that way on purpose. the physical look of a character is part of the character.

You know what, this is actually a awesome idea. Every season a character should start off the intro with their perspective on the war. And honestly I don't know if it's just me but can I ask a question to all the OG fans who grew up to the animations as kids, would y'all be hyped if Zuko voiced the first season for the opening on his perspective coz as as kid watching the show Zuko is definitely more of a main character then Sokka and Katara.
