  • Gambia's Electoral Commission chief has declared Adama Barrow, the opposition coalition candidate winner of the country's December 1 presidential election.
    The announcement marks the beginning of the end of over a two-decade rule by Yahya Jammeh who took power in 1994.

    I am definitely possitively surprised and happy for the gambian people. I hope Adama Barrow keeps his promises and Gambia is able to be a haven of stability, freedom and democracy where people are able to recieve education and employment opportunities.

    It was about time, but it is now the real work starts.
    Word of advice to Gambians, be EXTREMELY weary of the so called NGOs henceforth, they have an agenda, and your nations welfare is not it.
    Yes you were at times scared of your safety compromised by ruthless regim cops as you walked the streets of banjul or sere kunda, but in the next fifteen to twenty years, crime will also rise because thugs will also be free to do their biz.
    There will also come a time when you will have a need to ammend your constitution, but dont be cowed by the ngo's and employ a cut n paste version borrowed from a foreing country thinking that you will be addressing and locking out dictators of the future, that is a flawed narrative and bound to bounce back hard at you. it will come to haunt you and have a very negative impact and weaken your institutions. And lastly, be proud to be Gambian, know it the best country on Gods earth for any Gambian in the world, in every other nation, you are just another foreigner.
