    Take a close look at the last lap. As Muller crosses the start/finish line he passes the leading but stricken #5 Toyota that has just pulled over by the pit wall. Next, the now leading P1 Porsche flies by. Then the leading P2 Alpine goes past. Keep your eye on that Alpine. Just as it's disappearing over the horizon Muller starts to reel it in. Then, he passes the Alpine and the Porsche that have slowed and are proceeding in formation to the finish, probably aware of the time line. But Muller is still foot-to-the-floor. He must get a message from the pits telling him to back off so he won't have to do an extra lap because, as he nears the finish, Muller slows right down and pulls wide as the Porsche and Alpine pass him again. He then steps in line for the won, won, won, 1-2-3 finish.

      I stopped wandering about how wrong people are about things because their foundation coming into the conversation was incorrect. Having experience or not experience at all is irrelevant to that I said before. I've realized how people think, sometimes it cannot be easily erased or erased at all. I had to mentally challenge myself to fix certain things about how I think to get to where I am today. The idea is to be as precise as possible because no one can tell you, you are incorrect because when the extreme situation arises and you are prepared, everyone will be picking up their pieces, in pain, and left behind compared to you.

      Blaise Terry America is a continent not a country. United States is a country not a continent. America a continent that was named after Americo Vespucio designed the map of the CONTINENT AMERICA wich begins in Argentina and the Falkland Islands close to the south pole. The map made by Americo Vespucio starts at the south and goes all the way to North Greenland after Canada. United States is only about 240 years old, the first country founded in America with the oldest government is Dominican Republic wich is over 515 years old. United States didn't exist yet until 1776. America is not a country it's a CONTINENT with many many countries that make it up.

    Why can Fran of Superlite car build a Ford GT that weighs 2500 pounds and Ford can't? Also he makes a lot more horsepower using V-8 motors. They also have a larger cabin and center mounted fuel cell.

    • @drawmaster6343

      this is called the FIA/WEC regulations for the GTE PRO and GTE AM classes. there a restrictions upon horsepower and weight for the cars participating, for these I will list them below for you:
      weight: 2745 pounds minimum
      power: 500hp
      top speed: 180mph
      wheelbase: depends upon the production vehicle design
      height: varies based upon production vehicle design
      width: may not exceed 79 inches
      permitted engines: (as of 2016) Aston Martin v8, BMW turbo v8, 5.5 Liter chubby pushrod 2 valve, Ferrari v8 turbo, ford ecoboost 3.2 liter twin turbo v6, Porsche flat 6.
      gearbox: 5 or 6 speed gear box
      engine based TCS is allowed.
      this is why FRAN of super light can build a better ford that is lighter than what ford performance built.
      (source IMSA GTLM class requirements, note they obtained regulations from FIA/WEC officials.)

    LOL,WHAT A FARCE: to beat a Ferrari production car(of course race mod) Ford needs a prototype with 60 percent better aero efficiency and much lower center of gravity, this is just pathetic.How the hell did they allow Ford to omologate a prototype in the GTE class? I smell bribes.

      The Ferrari 488 is based on the fully tested 458 (finished 1-2 in GT AM). But Ford went from zero to the big win in about a year. Everyone pays attention to drag and the Ford racer is very similar to the street version. A new design has benefits but also risks. Ford struggled in the initial races but the learning curve went vertical at the right moment. It was a close race. Lots of lead changes. Bourdais had all of his electronics fail during his double stint during the night. He picked up a 20 second penalty because he couldn't shut off the engine during refueling and he didn't now how much fuel he actually had. The problem was solved with a new steering wheel/control
      module. It wasn't until the #82 Ferrari spun out that the race was handed to Ford. It was an all American IMSA teams podium. The question is, where was everyone else? The 5th place Aston was two laps back. That little, flat sounding, eco boost, F150, six engine probably has close to 700 HP and it's been absolutely bullet proof; the heart of the Ford victory. And great drivers! What I don't like are all of the balance of power, performance gap rules/penalties.

      you don't get the point:
      anyone who is not a dumbass Ford fan boy knows : the 2016 Ford GT Le Mans is LMP-2 disguised as a GTE and only god knows how they allowed that thing to race in the GTE class
      why? as many people already mentioned
      A:it got a Waiver for not meeting the required production numbers of the road car
      ( and very big one that will set a precedent ;now anyone with a big complex of inferiority and a lot of money to waste can build a prototype and race it in the gte class)
      B: team Ganassi basically cheated the Balance of Performance test: they sanbagged at the test day to get very few and irrelevant BOF penalties and infact they were
      several seconds faster in the race compared to the test day ( and they should have been disqualified and banned for many editions for that alone)
      c: They without a doubt violated the spirit and the purpose of GTE class namely bring to racing your production car : a car built for actual\comfortable road use and profitable to sell ;not a super expensive prototype specially built for the sole purpose of racing (with the obvious huge aerodynamic and chasis advantages) which is not profitable to produce as a road car ( infact Ford has not produced enough production cars, it will go bankarupt otherwise,lol, and got away with a waiver for that too. )
      And the funniest thing is that those Ford scammers would have lost anyway with their stupid prototype against a production car if one of Ferrari's drivers had not spun his car, loosing the lead, during the night.

    • @leswilcox7726
      @leswilcox7726 Před 8 lety +11

      Your comparison of the Ford GT to LMP-1 is a big stretch, and even to a P-2.
      Don't know about the waiver, does it have a time line? Since the Ford GT racing program has been extended through 2019 it'll be interesting to see how this works out, both in terms of production units and the effectiveness of the GT. 4 years is a long time for a racing car to stay on top without serious upgrades.
      The GT Amateur class (Ferrari came 1-2) is the class for "your production car : a car built for actual\comfortable road use and profitable to sell". GTE Pro is the modified version. As Ford GTs become publicly available there is the potential for privateers to enter GT Am. You have to look at the GTE class in the same light as NASCAR stockers.
      Sand bagging is a legitimate strategy but I don't agree that that's what actually occurred, at least not to the degree you're implying. I think Ford truly set out to win every race they've entered. Daytona and Sebring are pretty high profile events. The performance of all teams has been tracked since the beginning of the season. The GTE Corvettes, Astons and Porsches aren't exactly comfy, roady sports cars. What I don't like is the balance of performance criteria, period!.
      I agree that it was the Ferrari spin that handed the race to the #68 Ford, which got tagged with a total of 90 seconds in penalties.
      And now we have the 1-2 finish at the Glen. It'll be interesting to see what happens at the Ring.

    • @trolly4043
      @trolly4043 Před 8 lety +1

      I actually meant to mean LMP-2, sorry typos, just edited ( the 2016 Ford GT Le Mans without its restricters actually meets LMP-2 spec). The waiver has been imposed for the race le mans24h 2016 and affects this edition only not sure about ELMS, ALMS and other champioships le mans24h based since they have different ( or partially different ) regulations.
      " The GT Amateur class is the class for your production car, GTE Pro is the modified version. " Nah, that is not the difference between the two classes: both GTE-Pro andGTE-Am are production-based and both race mod but GTE-Am cars "must be at least one year old or be built to the previous year's spec, and have limits on the quality of drivers allowed in the lineup".
      "Sand bagging is a legitimate strategy but I don't agree that that's what actually occurred ".That it actually occured , is a fact ,confirmed by the times set in the race several seconds faster compared to the test day( and it was even raining at the beginning and anyway colder conditions which is better for savin' fuel and tires but not to set lap record).
      AS for ,Sand bagging being a legimate strategy , i can only laugh ; Can you imagine that epic ADS in which Ford was bragging it's triumphant win at le mans24h 2016 followed by a disclaimer " actually we sandbagged all the time at the test day to avoid effective BOP penalties ,cause it is a legitimate strategy, LOL, and in addition to that we also got a waiver for not meeting the required production numbers of the road car, because our philosophy is racing prototypes against production cars,LOL".

    • @leswilcox7726
      @leswilcox7726 Před 8 lety +7

      I've been thinking about the sand bagging thing. It doesn't make sense that you would sand bag to get on pole, not worth much in endurance racing, and then receive penalties for the race. Ford was handed ballast and boost penalties. Ferrari got a ballast penalty. So they weren't sand bagging during the race. Also, the balance of performance is based on what everyone else is doing, so you'd really have to be tracking every car right down to the end of qualifying to make sure you were positioned just right. You still wouldn't know absolutely where you stood. I'm assuming penalties would be handed out per team so that individual cars could not be bagging it.
      I can't see any drivers actually light footing it either. I think Ford has benefited from being the newest design and that they did build a car to specifically fit the rules. There was a Ford promo video where Dave Pericak said, they built a race car then figured out how to put a license plate on it. But the races have been close and the other teams won't sit still. The new Ford GT has definitely raised the profile and interest in this class of racing. I'll bet the media/advertisers love it.
