      Sucks that they removed the screens, but they at least still have a giant selection of entertainment through personal device on even some of their shortest routes. And their complimentary service is better than what I have seen on some European carriers (I'm talking about short/medium haul; I haven't flown long-haul on AA).

    I bet Larry Kellner from Continental would be proud of United for bringing back the IFE. The reason people got upset when United got rid of IFE in 2013 was because they had narrowbodies with IFE in the first place. The reason they had IFEs in the first place was because of Continental, specifically, a decision made by ex-Continental CEO Larry Kellner.

    Oh man, I remember those long long walkways at Sky Harbor back when it was America West. I hope I never have to connect there again. Sad to see the screens go, especially the map which is what I mainly used them for. But at least we don't have to worry about those computer boxes under the seats any more.

  • @sju_planespotter

    American say they are doing this to “harmonize” the fleet so passengers doesn’t feel the impacts of boarding two totally different interiors in one trip but it’s nonsense since their wide bodies will still have IFE and they’re using them on more domestic routes……. Cabin inconsistency at its best.

    Just flew one of these from Boston to Philly and back. I’m small as hell so I had no issue with space-Delta’s 737’s are actually hell on earth for anyone, and I had the privilege of red-eyeing back home on one. The seats themselves aren’t the worst in the world, really, but not having IFE’s makes it all feel so… bland. Doesn’t help that the Wifi conked out one way, thank god it was less than an hour up and down. Moral of the story, comfort in economy, to me, comes in seat width and *having the IFE’s!* I’d honestly want to fly American more if not for this, it just says so much about their management and would probably suck more if I had to do it for longer than an hour.

    check out seat 10A - right in front of the first emergency exit in coach - it is a disaster - window seat with no window, no reclining, and less seat width than "normal" coach seat width due to the protruded side wall as part of the emergency exit - feels even tighter than the 17" minimum noted - I would love to know if any American Airlines senior leadership or Board members have ever really sat in this seat on a real flight - I can't believe they feel this extreme comfort compromise is appropriate to squeeze a few more seats in the "Oasis" configuration

As for your wing question, I prefer setting slightly behind the wing so I can watch the flaps/slats in action but also see down below. Oh, and see all of the LAA 738s retrofitted for “an improved experience” now?😸

    I am scheduled to have flights on the 737-800 later this month and March and an A321 journey from Miami to Los Angeles in November, so I will see them first hand. Although I have to be honest, I am not looking forward to the trip from MIA to LAX with Oasis and American's reduced service, but the flight was only $80, so yes, I will get what I paid for.
    Personally, I rather have the setback screens; however, it is nice seeing that streaming actually worked since I have not been on a AA flight yet that has actually had it working. I have 7 AA flights this year, so I will be interested to see how many of them actually work.
    When it comes to parallel landings, I remember vividly landing in Atlanta with a plane parallel to us on the left and a third plane landing parallel to us, but the runway was on the other side airport, so not as close.

    But that's about it.....AA has really fallen. Our flight took 6.5 hrs. because of a headwind and AA did not offer any food for purchase during the flight. Nothing! We had on soda and a small bag of pretzels for 6.5 hrs. Plus it was over dinner time. Come on AA....why not offer food for purchase anymore??? (and please don't blame the pandemic!)

    I am a frequent flyer and I think removing IFE is a smart move. I initially hated it but shortly after, I really started to like it. The WiFi streaming system works well and the USB port puts out a good amount of current. Unlike UA and DL, all the USB ports are jacked and puts out tiny amount of current and you can't even fully charge your phone after a 5 hr flight across the country. Plus, it removes or reduce the metal box on some of the older planes as well. Delta decided to make their own IFE and the USB ports were easily damaged shortly after deployment - it's not exactly a smart move.

Seatback screens weight is not much of a fuel burn then you actual think. I also didn't copy and paste any of my comments. Also that's why delta is the most profitable airline cause they treat passengers with respect like they care unlike AA. Dont worry AA will have to put it back cause no one is playing there stupid games.

      @_w_w_ Před 2 lety

      @@kirkjoe6085 You are moronic... Delta is profitable? Are you joking? They are losing money left and right, lost billions in their JVs that they had to write off. They paid a $62M just not to take LATAM's A350. I am a Delta Diamond Medallion and Million Miler, plus stockholder. I probably know more about this than most people. Spirit does not have IFE of any sort. In addition, they have much narrower seat pitch and a super tiny tray table... because they use the special ULCC variant of the slimline seat.. AA has full blown seat and because they actually did slimline seat better than most had hoped, the slightly less seat pitch of 31" didn't translate to super tight seating. Yes, they carried more passengers with more seats but without carrying the stupid weight of the IFE, each passenger's carbon footprint is less. You are so clueless that you don't even know how silly your comments are.

      @_w_w_ Před 2 lety

      @@kirkjoe6085 And I am not done with you yet. Delta having the most IROPs in its history, disrupting, abusing and stranding passengers left and right. I was IROPed multiple times in just last few weeks; missed both business meetings and/or connecting flights. Their top 5% passengers are all considering leaving for UA/AA/AS except those that don't have a choice. Speaking of IFE, Delta design and make their own IFEs and they are plagued with software and hardware issues that the crews are constantly rebooting the IFE systems just so passengers can have light on/off control. I have been fortunate enough to sit upfront in premium seats and what I see that most of those high revenue passengers don't use the seatback IFE! They are either busy working or sleeping and the frequent flyers like me have seen most of the content that no one cares. I flew on UA/AA and did stream IFE and was blown away how well it worked. Using WiFi for streaming IFE is the most sensible solution but we, as a society, is not advanced enough for it yet. With fuel prices as high as they are, trust me that DL and UA are regretting the installations of those IFEs.

    I hate seatback IFE screens, plus the added weight wastes fuel. They should be switching soon to USB-C ports and power outlets that are about knee height next, and I've seen prototypes of seats with back and leg massage functions... Makes sense as the first airline to have this will do very well, it'll skyrocket passenger satisfaction scores and I'm not joking when I say it should help reduce pax aggression. Makes sense from a cost perspective as well, the total parts cost has to be under $30 per seat and savings from removal of IFE can be put to better use. Now if we could just eliminate plastics I'd be impressed... What's wrong with paper cups and square 2L cartons of water on carts instead of FAs using plastic bottles?
