  • Many of you have asked me to show how I finish my postcards and ATC's however its a long process and one I don't think would be interesting within a video format.
I have decided however to make this video which shows the next stage of the process which is building multiple layers giving the backgrounds character, these layers are what normally inspires me to see shapes and images within my compositions thus steering the final stages.
Here is a link to the first video: • Postcard & ATC Backgro...

I listened on my iPad and iPhone in order to answer your question about volume. Both devices have clear, even and adequate volume. Not too loud and not too soft! I enjoyed watching your process as you explain how you are seeing each postcard and intuitively adding what it needs. Your explanations are wonderful…educational and inspiring. Thank you!

Mister Ceri your volume is awesome! There can be a wide discrepancy between videos, so some small adjusting may be needed, but I have zero trouble hearing you at whatever my volume is set to when I get here. A 200% gain on the audio without distortion ... I'd have NEVER guessed! It sounds like you are talking to me from your desk right next to mine! Thank you for dropping by and sharing an art evening with me! :) I loved watching you make all the pretties and hear your thoughts about them!

No one is an "expert" at gel printing. It's part of the allure of it all -- that none of us know what will happen every time we print. I have been gel printing for years, nearly every day. I still am wondrously surprised many times! It's so fun!

If possible I would really love to see you finish one or 2 of the postcards off in a video. I feel like it's a cliff hanger without one or 2 finished. They are looking beautiful so far. I really enjoyed part 1 and part 2. I have watched the videos now a couple times. I have now begun my own postcards/journaling card for my junk journal. Thank you for the inspiration.

    • @CeriGriffiths
      @CeriGriffiths  Před rokem

Debbie you are not the first to ask this, I feel that it would be a hard thing for me to film as I make the backgrounds and then put them with my other backgrounds in my storage box and then when the mood takes me I’ll pull a couple out and work on further layers, then put them back in the box etc. postcards can take a long time to get to their finish with the way I work, I’ll consider trying to do a couple end to end on a future video but I’ll have to think about how I’m going to make that work and still end up with satisfactory designs.

When you talk about the depth of some of them, I like that & find it interesting! I’m inching closer to being brave enough to try! You mentioned what would I like to see you do? I’ve started collecting interesting things to make art with, so I’d love to see you play with found objects, circles from bottles & lids, combs, imprints, etc. You may have already done that because I’m a bit late to the party! I never thought of using gel prints for anything but collage & junk journal papers & pages. I do make quite a few cards for my family & friends all year long, and these would make beautiful, and unique cards. I notice how you put down only a part of a card to pick up color & patterns. I think that's one reason your gel prints are so great. I bought a gelli plate 6 months ago and haven't gotten it out yet. I'm trying to finish projects that are not finished, before I do anything new. Gel Printing will be my REWARD!!! Hahaha! Otherwise I will only have more unfinished projects around. It seems so relaxing, like collage. Its difficult to NOT open it and make a bunch of prints, but I know I won't use them for months. I'm working on my self-discipline!! I don't have much paint, so I buy 1 or 2 each month, so when I'm ready to gel print, I will have paints. Yours are always so beautiful. I relax when I watch you. I often just LISTEN to your videos while I do other projects. Like this morning, I'm just finishing a bead embroidery piece for my journal cover. I'm making 4 journals at same time, so once I made a bead embroidery on some lace I have, it is so beautiful, I want to make 4, one for each cover. So I have to stay on track. Bead embroidery is very tedious & requires my focused attention. So I'll put your video on, then at end, I know I have only looked up a few times & have missed whole video!!! So I rewind and "watch" it again. Hahaha! I'm on 7th time "watching" this video right now!!! What a weirdo I am. LOL!!! I often listen to music, but I listen to certain channels most of the time while beading or crocheting or crafting. I also think doing this gives me inspiration to craft. When I take a break, I start video over and then watch with total attention on what you are doing. Plus, it makes my brain think I'm spending time with people. Cuz I'm a homebody!! None of my friends & family are crafters. So spending time on CZcams, I can be with my online crafty "friends"!!! It's terrible not to have anyone who loves arts & crafts in my off-line world!!
I think "real" or "good" artists know what looks good or what needs more. Then some less creative people need to LEARN that skill. (That's me!!) So watching others really helps me learn. You have taught me so much!!
I know what you mean about layers being covered up with later layers. I retired 6 years ago, and finally had time & energy to craft & do needlework. My 1st collage took me 3+ weeks, cuz I planned what went on where and when, so I limited anything being covered up!!! I finally learned from videos, that you have to cover up the earlier layers. And even being comfortable glueing on papers sideways & even upside-down. I'm a musician, so I still can't glue music paper upside-down!!!
These gel prints are FANTASTIC!!! Thanks so much for sharing the video.
    Hugs from Austin,TX USA

Barbara I also have trouble glueing music paper in the wrong orientation as I used to be a dancer and singer however I’m getting better at it. Many years ago I made a small panel of seed bead work of an Art Deco woman, very beautiful but so time consuming so I really appreciate the artistry it takes to do such things. I do allow myself to have some unfinished projects but I do control them, if I don’t feel like creating in a certain project then switching to another one is very productive for me. Have fun in all you do and I hope you enjoy your journey with your gel printing when it beginnings, I love it.

I enjoy watching your gel printing episodes and I can hear you very well. It's probably just as well you can't hear me when I'm yelling at you "That it's just a background Ceri, remember what Dyan says about backgrounds, 'Don't fall in love with the backgrounds' ". Of course I say this all in jest, but I do talk to you while watching.

Hi Ceri, the volume is fine. I am using a cell phone and a bluetooth speaker.

    Hi Ceri,
I have never had a problem with the volume on your videos.
I’m loving this series of videos on ATC’s and Postcards.
Your eye for colour is inspirational. Is it an instinctive or learnt technique?
Thank you for sharing your talent. 😍😍

Thank you, I think I have a natural eye for colour however my whole life I’ve worked in careers where colour is important so some of it may also be learnt.
