    Years (and years!!) ago I did commissioned watercolors and taught watercolor- I had such a blast throwing in backgrounds on full-size watercolor paper. Then I’d take them to the local printshop to be printed and cut into my business cards- each snd every one, a tiny original.
    Unheard of at the time. They still turn up now and again- so fun 😊

    Before ATCs and all the rest, I used to order ultra-cheap business cards and do mini collages on them. I'd seal them in an acrylic medium as protection. People loved them and I found all sorts of uses for my mini-art. One Ceri does not mention are places like doctors' offices that need you to confirm your information, even some hotels where you made e-reservations. Also, it was cool when I met someone new and wanted them to get in touch. The most fun were restaurants and other places that had prize drawings. Mine were personal, not for a business so that's an option for everyone.

They looked nice, the only thing is that I did what you mentioned about the label, I printed labels with my info and stuck it to the back, and as you said, since the white of the label was not the same white as the watercolor paper, it didn't look quite good or cohesive. Julie, as you know you can gel print onto almost anything, my personal preference is to create on 12x12 250gsm cards stock, as I always get the backs of my prints messy I then back them with paper, I tend to go for a white presentation paper as its a little less transparent…….I’ve also backed with old book pages, pages from old art pads basically anything that I think will suit the purpose and cover up my messy paint marks.

      Rene, you could but at the end of the day its a business card the first impression is the most important after that people accept wear and tear in their bag or packet.

    Wonderful idea and video! Thank you! Are there any swap groups, like there are for ATCs?

    Hey Ceri, loved this, thank you. Just a thought: because you have an overhang on one side of your plate and a shortage on the other side, do you think by turning your gelli plate on the plexiglass 90 degrees that that may solve the problem?

    Love this! It appears as though your gelli plates are on plexi? Can you tell me your layout and why? I just got my 1st gelli plate and have been watching your videos. Thank you!

      Lisa you’re correct I have my geli plates on plexiglass so that I can lift and move them around easily for filming purposes but theres also another reason I like them on clear plexiglass and that is if I wish to print onto a larger piece of art where placement is important I can turn the plate over and see where’re I’m positioning it.

    *** QUESTION: I have not used my gel plate yet cuz I didn't have paints. I just got a box set Arteza paints. But I didn't get any transparent paints cuz I can't seem to find them. *** IS IT WORTH doing gel plate without any transparent paints??? ***
    Or should I just wait???
    Thanks!! Austin,TX USA

      Barbara you can gel print without transparent paints however you need to remember every layer you put on will cover up the previous layer, you could create a collection of backgrounds to be printed over later when you do have transparent paints. You could even try using a very thin layer of paint which should give you the appearance of slight transparency.

    Love this idea, but I am not in business so, I thought about making a set of personalized playing cards. My family all play cards especially at family gatherings. I think they would love to have a handmade set. I am trying to figure out how to make them a but slippery. I have no luck with mod podge in my climate it is sticky. Anyone out there have any ideas.

      I love your idea of cards! Would laminating the cards be an option?

      Rub the sticky with wax and buff. You could try a candle if that’s what you have, or buy some Dorlands wax.

      Janice thats a wonderful idea, as for sticky from mod podge when I work in my art journal and when I’ve finished creating a page I then give it a coating a satin varnish for acrylic paint, when that’s fully dry for me in my climate then its no longer stick, not sure if that may be the solution.

      A coating a satin varnish for acrylic paint will prevent the stickiness.

    May I ask what type of paper did you use to back up your cards? Also, wouldn't haveit been easier to do that first, before cutting them all out first?

    • @CeriGriffiths
      @CeriGriffiths  Před rokem +1

      To be honest sometimes I back the cards prior to cutting other times I do it later. The paper or card I back them with depends on how thick the image is but it’s normally about postcard weight.

    Don't know what a gelli plate is, or how to make one?

    • @CeriGriffiths
      @CeriGriffiths  Před rokem

      Wanda you can make them and there are videos on CZcams about how to make them but they’re made from food products and can break down over time I also feel I don’t want to work with food in my art room. I buy mine on the internet from companies such as GelPress who make gel plates in various sizes, these are commercially made and not made from food products therefore will last a lifetime if they are looked after correctly. I would suggest doing a search for gel printing or gel press on CZcams to get a variety of videos which will show you how one can be used.
