- Captive raised yellow tangs have finally happened. Researchers at the Oceanic Institute, led by Dr. Chad Callan, successfully broke through a bottleneck in raising yellow tang fry. The first captive raised tangs were on display in Florida for the first time ever and in this Fincast John shows you the beautiful fish as they graze on real live rock for the first time, while Callan himself describes the process his team went through to finally find the formula to keep the young alive through the delicate larval stage.

wow.. what an incredible breakthrough. hope for the rest of the industry.
great achievement and wonderful thing to happen to the hobby, thanks for posting and covering such great break through
I wish it will happen more with other fish, both marine and Freshwater
as it helps the hobby and also stop and cut on hunting "or whatever it called" in collecting fishes from Oceans, Sea's, Lakes and Rivers
thanks for posting, am falling in love with this channel, it helped me learn a lot about fish industry.
keep the good work.
+MaLekElsharq Thnx. Much appreciated.
Only here to see the SuperCarlinBrothers dad
+JaidoesCZcams thanks for stopping by.

That is an awesome accomplishment for the hobby! Thank you for covering the story so well!
+Tin Goose I appreciate the comment! Kudos for sure to Chad and his team.
+Tin Goose Thanks. Please share and help spread the word about this amazing breakthrough.
I don't know about anyone else's, but I would happily pay twice as much for a fish provided it's captive bred.
goodall1bay Depends on how much the fish is originally, I wouldn’t pay double if the fish was already around 500
Hi! I love both of your son's wor on their channel and they showed me this channel.
Beautiful fish. Glad to hear of the progress being made in captive breeding on these
hey father!
Thank You Mr.Carlin
Seeing this is a fairly old video now is there anywhere we can find the information about how they bred them?
You should be very proud of your sons
+Quentin, The Arschloch I am !
that sweet father and son moment right here
I became a proud owner of one of these aquacultured tangs yesterday.
Matthew Jozefiak Hi Mathew. Congrats! How is it doing?
So far great! Eating just fine but I don't think it knows what the nori on the clip is. Hasn't touched it at all. Went nuts this morning at feeding time. Sunday's are a mysis day and gobbled it right up. Smallest yellow I have ever seen in a tank for sure.
This is great! Not just for the hobby but, also for the wild versions. Excellent news all round. Fantastically well reported too. Well done. :)
+Planted Nano Thanks. This is a great breakthrough.
this is so cool! i don't know much about the aquarium industry or fish in general, (i know more about mammals) but this is so interesting, definitely going to watch more.
Fantastic news! Great interview and very informative video.
Thanks Joleen!
These fish are beautiful!
awesome, here from supercarlinbrothers
I can see the resemblance between you and your sons. :-)
+Valerie Linares I get a lot of that :)
I love this channel

Fantastic
yellow tangs are my favorite fish
Ahh it's my hermo John, I actually watched you a bit a while back but now I'm back, I was under a separate account that was on my old phone, but I'm here now. You should do some videos with your pequeños tipos ;) they'd probably be really happy to bond with their Dad and you'd also probably get a massive amount of promotion. Good luck with Fincasters and thanks Ben for reminding me about this channel, I love sea life and everything that has to do with it, so expect to see me a bunch more
+De Rojo Manos - Des Welcome back!
+fincasters Thanks! Can't wait for the inevitable growth from that shout lol. Hope ya having fun with CZcams right now!
That is awesome. I hope we get to a point that all fresh, brackish and salt water fish get breed in large numbers. This will help the hobby.
nice video!
Well here is Ben and Jay's dad (from SuperCarlinBrothers)
It’s just J. Just J
It´s amazing ...
Wow so cool!!!!
That is so cool! I hope they can do this with gem tangs and purple tangs.
That would be cool
Gemtangs would take a long time seeing as they're so expensive because people would be scared it would go wrong.
also black tangs, some people need to buck up and get these fish tank raised because it will help them out in the wild so much
We need Sohal
Hi SuperCarlinBrothers Dad
the babies are so cute
fish are beautiful!
awesome
Hopefully they can start breeding Whitetail Bristletooth Tang.
Your kids are badass.
Wow 10 years from now with information he is sharing . We will be only buying captive bred fish.
thanks for that, saving the earth!
Heeeey brother!
Haven't they breeding tangs in fish farms for years now? In asia they have been making achilles/blue tang hybrids which is extremely impressive.
Hmmmm I have not heard of this.
wow
Now make powder blues and purples .
I want one they are so yellow 😆😋
Super Carlin Family!!!
Me, also!
You're John Carlin!!!
Brake threw !!+
which would be the hardest surgeon fish to breed?
0:57 ok but where can I buy one of those moon jelly tanks
SuperCarlinFather!
curious as to what happened to this? we could use some aqua cultured yellow tangs right now...........especially the ban that Hawaii has on them.
Supercarlindad
Hey brother!
Save the ocean
Ironic how one of the breeders (is that an acceptable term for "parent"?) of the SuperCarlinBrothers is talking about breeding. No? Just me? Okay...
Can these captive fish live in a 40 gallon nuvo fusion or they still require large tanks?
I’d still go larger
So the yellow tangs you have was wild and how did you manage to get them to breed or lay eggs?
10 year research you mentioned and its only achieved now??
Not too sure to think its a breakthru or waste of time??
Eggs must be layed in the tank for it to fertilise to hatch into fry's?
How did you manage to collect the eggs in the first place?
Yes. I did not get them to breed. That was accomplished by scientists in Hawaii.
Does anyone know why a yellow Tang fish have a white band next to his tail? Thanks
Yes! For protection. That is a sharp piece of bone.
yellow tangs blue tangs both now can be bred in captivity, now i guess we will see their hybrids too like clowns
Hey father!
regal angel eggs
hey my father and i have been in the marine trade for bout 10 years now with our big reef system and my 75-gal fowlr that we mess around with . Anyway we live in the Boston area and have some regal angel eggs every so often and out of the thousand or so that have been released in our tank, we've only been able to raise 5 beyond a month. If anyone wants to try their hand contact me. ....ps - please avoid the comments like "you cant put regals in a reef tank" or "regals dont breed in captivity" cuz if theres one thing i learned at the beginning of the system 5 years ago its that the normal aquarium rules do not apply to this tank. My father is computer illiterate and i figured i'd try the board since it has been of great help w/ my 75. And does anyone know the conversions to find out how many gallons a tank is? It's 144" L x 48" H x 40" W.....Yes it is a monster, its basically our entire basement but its been sorta a father-son lifes work for two fish freaks. He's wetting himself as I head off a marine bio major next year, thinks im gonna be sending him rare stuff from the lab. Again any questions about the eggs or whatever its no charge or anything lol we're just sick of seeing Saturday night feeding frenzy, it's like discovery channel.
Good luck Graham!
So I purchased one. It cost 5 times the ocean caught fish. Its also indestructible. Three ich blooms and not a spot on the flavescens.
Great to know! Thanks for sharing!
I know this is probably a dumb question, but why are some of them clear?
Just juveniles before they mature to yellow.
fincasters I bought a juvenile and he is white, any explanation there?
👋 hi super carlin dad 😂
Omg your dad
They look kinda off
Hopefully after they get all the kinks out of the tang breeding, they can set their sights on Mandarin dragonet breeding!!!
Mandarins are already being bred in captivity. ORA and others are providing them to the hobby in healthy numbers. They are more expensive but usually eat pellets etc. Hope this info helps.
Here from supercarlin brothers
Me
Yeah I literally only came here cuz Ben recommended it lol
I can see why you are an anchor.
+Erin Keough thnx.
Breed some firefish!
This is a good thing for the hobby but the problem is supply and demand there are enough wild yellow tangs out there for the saltwater Hobby the Hawaii fish ban is pretty stupid
Hashtag doryisamiracle
Anyone else here on here after Hawaii fish ban 🤷🏻♂️
Well they have to get this up and going now because they just banned the capture of wild yellow tangs!!! Hawaii needs to understand that the Aquarium hobby is not the enemy, it will be a sad day when you can only see a fish in Aquariums because their native reef no longer exists, the oceans are in trouble!!!!!
Which one is daddy Carlin?
I think they one in the beginning… John I think
yeah thats him
+Qoaster Stream Right!
dad's a youtuber sons youtuber, and my channel is all about my freshwater aquariums too, what are the coincidence, #supercarlinbrothers check out my aquariums too on my channel. tnx.
The USA needs to ban all wild caught marine fish, period. This will force those in the hobby to either figure out how to breed them in captivity or give up the hobby.
Too soon to ban. Biologists are working hard, but they are not nearly where they would need to be. Sustainably captured wild fish are still they way to go, with emphasis on sustainably.
which is something that the United States is getting better at.
