We asked our Mexican Moms to try Thai food for the very first time (well actually, one of the moms has already tried it 😅). They tried all sorts of tasty dishes like pad Thai, Tom kha kai, red curry, laab gai, papaya salad, som tam, mango sticky rice! What will our Mexican mamás think?! Have you ever tried Thai food before? What Thai dishes should the moms try next?

My dad's Mexican, and my mom's Thai. The way our cuisines complement one another is something that I'm forever blessed with.
lucky you
There's a lot of similar flavors between Mexican cuisine and a lot of Southeast Asian cuisines. The lime, chili's, Cilantro, mangoes, etc. Imo it would be a low hanging fruit for fusion cuisine to combine them.
I’m 100% Thai and I loveeeee Mexican food as well!
The stars decided you should open a fusion restaurant.
same here , mom laos , dad mexican ❤️
Whoever picked the dishes/menu for this episode did a great job and did justice to Thai food 👏
Just needed Pra Kaw Paw or Boat noodle🤤
Too basic
They just whitewashed the red curry 💀
It’s not even that popular in Thailand
They don’t even choose panang, krapao, or even tomyam
@ccroww white washed meaning light a cream looking yeah. Alot of thai restaurants in the states water down the curries and cater to a more white/non thai palate because they believe those groups of people can't handle the spice. It's kinda sad.
@@ccroww The red curry looked nothing like a red curry.
Y’all forgot to pair them with sticky rice, sticky rice for Thai and Laotian people is like tortillas for us. It pairs with every dish
For Laotians, I believe it’s mostly sticky rice. But for Thai, we go with jasmine rice most of the time. Some dishes go better with sticky rice so we pair them with it. Thai culture was actually influenced by so many neighboring countries’ cultures so we have a lot of shared cultures with SEA and East Asian countries. For example, there’s a lot of Chinese descents here so our most common sources of carb are rice and noodles. Some of my friends can eat noodles everyday. lmao Most of us stick to jasmine rice 2-3 meals a day though. 😊
I’m Thai but from the esan part and I would have loved them to combine the food with sticky rice especially with the laab and the som tum
@@immy0205 right!! i feel like it would’ve enhanced so much flavors with each dish and they would’ve liked it
@@HolsteinDevil ooooh yes that’s very true!! i feel like with sticky rice or jasmine rice it would’ve enhanced the flavors better, we definitely need a redo of this taste testing haha
@@HolsteinDevil It's usually Jasmine Rice for central Thai dishes. Sticky rice is mainly North Eastern Thai (Esaan) dishes which are very similar to Lao dishes. North Western Chiang Mai region also eat sticky rice but not as much, their dishes have more influences from neighbouring Burma/Myanmar.
When Lucy says its good, you know its good 😂
I know
😂😂
That's right, send her your homework kids 😂
Some of the dishes were missing their traditional accompaniments, or rather those dishes were the accompaniments meant to be eaten with rice to mellow out the spicy and other flavours.
- "Tom Kha Kai" is typically eaten with Jasmine rice
- "Laabs" are typically eaten with sticky rice
- "Som Tam" also typically eaten with sticky rice
Yup…tired of these food tasting ethnic food videos that don’t even bother to make it as close to authentic or do any research at all!
The papaya salad didn’t have fish paste lol
If only they served all these dishes together with rice. Chef's kisssss!
Correct
Well… Westerners.
Indian food, thai food and mexican food are very easy crossovers. Fusion dishes need to be made.
Ok?
@@89iamfree no one asked ;/
Indian nothing like Mexican
I disagree because a lot of Mexicans eat a lot of beef and Indians would just get in the way.
@@robertoestrada20ot all Indians I’m Indian (well Indian-American), and I love beef!
It’s only really Indians who are observant or very religious Hindus who don’t eat beef. My dad is Hindu and Indian, but he’s not very religious at all - and until he started having problems with his teeth (and thus difficulty chewing certain kinds of meat), he used to love beef too!
Whereas, my mom is Indian and pretty religious Hindu and she’s been vegetarian since 1981 - and though she eats eggs, dairy, and honey, she doesn’t eat any other animal products like meat, poultry or seafood.
Basically, Hinduism prohibits eating beef, but it depends on the individual person and their beliefs, and how religious and observant or not religious and observant they are!
I agree with Lucy. “Thai food is the best!” And I’m Mexican too. I could eat it every day!
Being Thai and growing up in Los Angeles with lots of Latino friends, I can say that Thai food and Mexican food has a very similar flavor note: Salty, Spicy and most importantly Sour. Perfecto!
Same latitudepinak sun exposure and climate soil to some extent
I agree as a Thai growing up in Los Angeles
The laaab Gai is better when you wrapp it with lettuce like a taco or with plain sticky rice. My Mom makes the best laaab!
righttttt it needs lettuce or a cucumber for fresh crispness to combat the heat
@@Ica688 You need the lettuce or sticky rice. It’s like eating ground beef without the taco shells
@@Ica688 as you can see closely. The lettuce leaf was put in the side purposely for them to wrap it like a taco like any other Lao/Thai restaurants do when they serve laaab gai to the customer
@@asiandavidp chai
IMO that laab doesn’t look the best, every cook makes it slightly different.
And Thai style papaya salad isn’t as good as Lao style papaya imo.
It’s funny I’m Thai and I think Mexican is some of the best food 😂 but I love my Thai food too.
I'm mexican and i love my mexican food. And also i would love to taste Thai food. It look delicious
Thai people are just Asian Mexicans tbh. Similar food and northern countries look down on us.
I'm Mexican, and I love Thai food, some of the best food ever. Of course I also love Mexican food, too.
Both are incredible congratulations to both
Chipotle is my favorite mexican food.
As a Thai, I'm soooo glad Lucy pointed out how red curry should be and not the over-creamed, grey sauce that you sometimes find in thai restaurants abroad. Next time do the street food combis! Like thai grilled chicken, som tam and sticky rice! THAT'S how thais have their salads usually...
The thing that's interesting is that Mexican cuisine and SE Asian cuisine like Vietnamese and Thai we use a lot of the same ingredients. We put them together in different ways, but our ingredients are the same. Chilies, lime, cilantro, tamarind etc.
Maybe Thai but I don't see the similarities of Vietnamese with Mexican food
@@hughw2377 we do use a lot of the same ingredients in Vietnamese food. But then we also have French influence too, but we definitely use cilantro, limes, chillies, and such
Shoutout to Laotian food... That stuff fire too.
@@chdreturns I'd love to try Laotian food
Maybe global south thing? Similar ingredients from similar ecosystems
their language sounds gorgeous 🥹 btw im thai, and that orange pad-thai isn’t a typical pad-thai that we have in thailand tho
I'm sure they would be excited to know that the pad thai is made with tamarind to give out its sweet and sour flavors.
Tamarindo is popular in Mexico, just smaller than what grows in Thailand.
Aww they’re so adorable❤️
I’m Thai and I LOVE Mexican food. It’s really difficult to find good Mexican restaurants here in Thailand. Most easily accessible ones are just Taco Bell and Sunrise Tacos which are okay but not really that good. I used to be an exchange student to the US and it’s kinda funny that sometimes what I miss the most from my experience in the US is Mexican food. lmao
I thought they started to import foods from Mexico in bangkok now? I could be wrong but thats what I saw in someone's travel vlog not long ago. But anyways between me and you i wouldn't want mexican food in thailand anyways just like I wouldn't want thai food in Mexico. There's a certain essence and kick that the 2 people bring to those cuisines. So I'm very old fashioned when it comes to that. 😅
ikr. Have you ever tried The Spotted Pig? Sala Daeng Soi 1, not sure if this is an authentic Mexican but I think their foods are great.
I think there might be one or two in Pattaya, if they are anywhere...
hey im a mexican guy, and i just did a little google map search for bangkok to look at what mexican food is being offered, aaaaand, there is actually quite a few places, but most of them look like expensive hipster places that are not authenthic. buuuuut, this place called "cholols BBK" looks pretty good, based on the pictures, if i went there, i woudl order the birria tacos , the pictures for those looked pretty legit
I can find better Mexican food in Thailand than here in Hawai'i. And in general, Thai food sucks here too. It is not easy and/or too expensive for Thai restaurants to get all of the necessary spices here.
I just love the fact that they are so respectful and honest with their opinions.
Xochitl is such a beautiful name. And it's always great to see people appreciate other's food and culture.
"Xochitl" is a word from Nahuatl, a Language used by a group of ancient Mexicans. Xochitl means Flower.
You know it's an absolute win when Thai food makes Mexican Mama say “It's too hot and spicy" despite their local food being mostly spicy.
As a Thai myself I'm proud. ❤
AND I LOVE SPICY TACOS!
Yes, they have the main three mamahs. Looking like the old past videos. Xochitl be looking good in this video.
Yes
Yay!!!!! Lucy and Xochitl is backkk🥰🥰🥰🥰
I'm Laos/Thai from America but I grew up around Hispanic people. Now is we could never eat Laab without Chicharrón. It's a great combo!
When Lucy said: “we never add fruit to it, how dumb we are.” I really felt that.
I thought FOR SURE the mango sticky rice would be a slam dunk for Xochitl!! Especially after all the spicy food!😂
😂😂😂😂
Depends on how it is made. Sometimes it is plain sticky rice with condensed milk on top and sometimes they stir the condensed milk and coconut into the rice. The latter is much better, particularly for stuffing jackfruits.
I’ve never seen Thai red curry like that. Usually it’s in a soup container like that other one. I love pad see ew too
I’m Thai and I’ve never seen Red curry like that before its not even red.
The red ran away
@@Thatonelonelyfrogour Red Curry looks like Orange Curry lol
I said it before and I’ll say it again Mexicans and Central Americans think we’re hard core because we love chilies and hot sauce, BUT…. The day I tried Thai food I was sweating in places I normally never sweat while eating Mexican food like my nose 👃… Thai food is super delicious, but they know how to sneak attack you the chilies that you don’t really smell or taste at first bite… the salad I had was sooooo good like Lucy said “you want to grab more, but it’ll hurt” and yes that salad had me crying because it was soooo good that I couldn’t but it down but it hurt soooo badly 😋😭😭😭😭🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵
Foreigners never believe me when I tell them how I’ve never seen any nation enjoy spiciness on a regular basis more than Thai people. They would say other countries have the types of pepper/chili that are spicier than Thai bird eyes. Well, we don’t just use a few when we cook though. We use at least a handful each dish. lmao
When I was an exchange student I told everyone that I don’t like spicy food that much cause I don’t like being tortured. But when I had spicy food they were so confused cause I could handle spiciness better than most people. I had to tell them that I don’t like Thai level of spiciness but other countries’ level is fine for me. 😂
I recently found this channel and the Spanish dads channel and it’s made me so happy. So comforting for me to watch 😊
My favorite ladies Xóchitl and Lucy. ❤they always make my day.
I love thailand 🇹🇭 ❤ 🇺🇸
And the food is so tasty!!
@@MamahChannel yes imma try the real cheeseburger made out of only cheese 🧀
I love Thai food;!! But the weather? Well, no so much.
@@SV-kr9fuAs a Thai, I hate the weather its hot, super hot, Heck and rain
@@SV-kr9fu But what about the rain they need to water your plants man oh that’s right the movie impossible tsunamis but there hasn’t been a tsunami every since the movie came out in 2015 I think 🌊
I've been watching this channel for 3 years and didn't realize until now that Lucy has a peanut allergy. What a shame. Another great video and the similarities between Thai and Mexican food in ingredients make it a natural for both to love the food of the other. I know for a fact that Pakistanis adore Mexican food and I love watching these cross cultural experiences.
Lastly, Thai food in general is amazing and I'd recommend everyone to try Angry Chicken, if they see this dish on a Thai restaurant menu. It leaves this beautiful warm glow in the mouth.
What really?
Same
wat!? 3yrs alredy?
Lucy appearantly either just doesn't care or it isnt a lethal level allergy unlike most peanut allergies because she does eat them anyway.
@@chdreturnsshe just has to be careful and know that it's in there and she makes the decision as to how much is in there and does it in moderation if you notice.
There's sometimes one will be eating something and you'll clearly see that she does not try it because she knows that that definitely could set it off
I love tryygood after the mamas say they are good. Specially Xotchitl and Lucy being so on point all the time.
Lucy made me laugh when she said we should start putting fruit in our arroz con leche! 😂
Like the sliced mangos on top of tres leches. It adds a touch of sweetness ;)
Love seeing these beautiful young ladies and their very good opinions, both have cultures that have similar spices to Spanish roots because of the spice trade from asia and for to see them love this food the way they did just shows how close we really are together
This is great, i live in thailand and have been introducing my kids to Mexican foods.....plus we have been making "thai tacos" tacos make with thai fillings. The 2 food cultures actually have a lot to offer each other....we live in nth isaan so we eat a lot of chili's, we would probably give Mexico a run for heat and spiciness but Mexico has more different chili's.
As I’m Thai who has just enrolled Spanish class for few weeks now, this has made my day, thank you❤
As a Thai myself, I love you Lucy! ❤
Thank you for giving positive feedbacks on Thai foods as one of Thai food fans around the world.
These moms are ADORABLE ❤
I was in México before and I cooked some Thaifood for my host family, they love it! My sis even asked me after a year which sauce I used ; fish sauce.
My absolute fave reviews are from the Mexican aunties and uncles, because They share honest , fair & complimentary opinions. There's no hate or judgement if the flavours disagree with their pallette. ❤
I have been waiting for them to try food. All the dishes made my mouth water, especially the Mango Sticky Rice 😍 Pad Thai is so delicious 🤤 a bit jealous of the fact I have not tried any of the other dishes yet, still waiting for I go to Thailand to do so. And the fact that Thai food is probably more spicy than Mexican food due to all the chilies they put in there 🥵 still worth it tho‼️
The Thai government actually sponsors and regulates a LOT of Thai restaurants overseas to help with quality and authenticity, so you would probably be fine ordering them at a Thai restaurant :)
@@Ica688 I have had tried Thai food before and it was absolutely delicious 😍and I live in the United States, but I also heard that Thai food at restaurants in the U.S is not really authentic due to there not being some ingredients you would use in Thailand to make the food in the U.S
@@abbyortiz132 : You have to find a Thai friend that would take you to that hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant. In the U.S., most Thai restaurants have to lower the flavorful taste and the spiciness of the foods in order to cater to general American palate (they need to make money).
The Laab looked kinda flavorless lol. I wish they were instructed to try it with lettuce and pork rinds because that’s how a lot of Thai people eat it. We also take bites of chili after every bite, even when there’s already chili cooked into it🤣
I love this video!!!! TRADITIONAL Filipino food next, I think that the moms will like it since it has similar flavors found in mexican food
i love them, they are so genuine and pure
My three favorite Moms are on today! Hooray🥰
Love love Thai food laarb, green papaya salad and sticky rice my favorite 😍 I got hungry just watching lucky for me my husband works in a Thai restaurant can't wait 🤤😋
Hi 👋 from Thailand 🇹🇭 😊 , I love seeing all 3 Mexican Moms enjoying our food. Wish I could make you guys a home cook ones and yes we will make it less spicy for you just ask the papaya salad's seller how many chilli for beginners I would recommend 1 and when you feel more adventurous go 5 but be warn even for me tiny Thai chilli are very spicy😅
I’m surprised they didn’t include Tom Yum Goong or spicy basil which are just as popular as Pad Thai in Thailand. Spicy basil is probably the go to dish for most Thais if they’re looking for something that’s quick, easy, delicious, and classic. You simply cannot go wrong wit it tbh. But anyways, Thai food is really DA BEST PERIOD. 😂❤
Eating Thai food tips...
1) usually in Thai culture, the main dish for each ones is a plate of RICE, other KABKHAO* are for sharing in a meal.
2) simply use SPOON and FORK together is the most efficient way of eating. spoon in your dominant hand.
3) fetch small amount of kabkhao to your rice dish for one or two gulp at a time. don't be hurry, don't do buffet vibe.
4) use fork to push a scoop of rice and stuffs into spoon for one gulp, then eat it. any strong tasty food will be mildly taste in your mouth.
5) in case of eating noodles, using chopstick is better, but spoon and fork pairs is still effective.
*KABKHAO = foods for eat together with RICE
Tom Kha Kai - kabkhao // salty and little sour light white soup with chicken and herbs, pepper spicy, strong lemongrass and coconut milk smell.
Red Curry - kabkhao // salty and spicy curry look because of coconut milk, red color got from chilly mixed with other herbs paste.
Laab Gai - kabkhao // salty and sour grounded chicken mixed with challots and roasted grind-rice grains.
Som Tam - kabkhao / appetizer // sweet salty sour and spicy salad of green papaya mixed with long bean, peanuts, tomatoes, and dried shrimps. (actually there are plenty of som tam flavours/types in Thailand)
Pad Thai - main dish // salty and little sweet & sour fried noodles in tamarind sauce, mixed with tofu, dried shrimps, bean sprouts, and peanuts.
Mango Sticky Rice - dessert // coconut milk steamed sticky rice, pour a little salty coconut milk sauce on top, serves with sweet mangoes.
I love these moms ❤

I agree Thai is the best! I love Greek middle eastern food too.
as a Thai, we also love Mexican food, i have tried Mexican food in Bangkok and i love it, the taste have 3 main flavors salty sour and sweet same as Thai food. WeThai❤ Mexican.
I’m Thai and I love Maxican foods a lotttttt, especially quesadillas.

Love Thai food! My favorites are pad Thai with pork, yellow chicken curry, stuffed chicken wings, and spring rolls. So glad they enjoyed the dishes.
ขอบคุณที่ลองทานอาหารไทย แต่ฉันอยากให้คุณมาลองทานที่ไทยดูค่ะ นั่นคือรสชาติที่แท้จริง 🇹🇭♥️♥️🇲🇽
Xochitl looks so lovely with her hair like that 😊
🥰
I love introducing my Latino friends to thai food. I lived in Thailand for a few years and can attest to the heat level on everything is much higher than the Mexican food I had growing up.
The one most common thing is thais love to put sugar salt and chili on their fruit, much like tajin on fruit in the Mexican communities.
I’m glad you ladies like Thai food. My Mexican husband love getting homemade Thai food everyday too. Lol. He’s very spoiled now. We love doing combination of both culture in our house. Every Christmas I make him some green chicken tamales, pozole and strawberry short cake. on new year’s eve, we celebrate with hotpot.❤
Thank you Lucy! I love Mexican food too!
would love to see them try papaya salad but with corn variation

"pero nunca le ponemos fruta, veda, que mensos" me hizo reir jajajjaja
Lucy is disqualified for prejudice, she already loved the food before tasting.😅🤣
4:01 With the chicken laab i usually pair it with sticky rice.
I LOVE LUCY!!! she’s my fav ❤❤
I LOVE "Tom Kha Kai"! The lady was right, this is very much a comfort food like chicken soup. On the Food Network show "Beat Bobby Flay" an excellent Thai chef did indeed beat him with such a soup made with lobster instead of chicken. I was drooling!
Thai food is absolutely delicious, and it's way spicier than Chinese food.. You can't go wrong. The mango sticky rice is to die for, lol.
Hunan food is way spicier than Thai food.
@sebjake3793 You're not lying, lol. One taste of Hunan, and it will take your breath away.
Can’t forget Sichuan
@risingstar9903 Sichuan is a bit spicier than Thai, but Hunan foods are much spicier than both
@@sebjake3793 Southern thai food is spicier than all of them It's hot like burn you tongue then you need to drink water more than 10 time

So happy to see Lucy!!!!! Missed seeing her in videos for the last while. Lucy you are great on this show!!!!
Love mango sticky rice ❤
Aw I love that auntie who loves Thai food! Respect! But they should've eaten everything with rice! It evens out the intense flavors of all the dishes.
Finally Thai food. Hands down the best kind of food there is!
If I don’t want Thai food then I get Mexican and vice versa.
All the Mama's are open-minded towards new dishes. Bless their heart.
That's the best part about living in America I get to try foods from all over the world n I don't have to leave the country
Have them try traditional American Southern food!
Super cool
