I really enjoyed this. I find myself getting so engrossed in the prep that I don’t actually play though admittedly it is a major part of my fun factor. Your insight was really helpful. Thanks!

That is awesome that the video helped you see that. I also like the prep work and it is just as much fun as playing.

    Great video!
I believe it's a common first mistake to try to emulate the experience of those we admire (be it in solo or group RPG).
I loved the way you used the different way you and other CZcamsrs play and how we could be inspired by, but should find our own way.
Using your Stoic analogy, I believe that, as long as the "Z" goal is "to have an enjoyable experience", the steps B to Y become way easier.
Sharing a bit of my experience, I've found that I'm always looking for balance between the various methods and tools I use.
I try to have an idea of what I'd like to happen during a session, but leave room to chance and surprises; I like to roll dice, but sometimes I ignore them or simply choose the outcome; I like to have random events, but try to guide them in a direction that I'd enjoy; etc...

That is what is cool about playing solo, we all come at the games differently. Some people feel you have to roll the dice and that works for them while others just have story elements they really want to see happen in their games. Sounds like you have found that balance between the two and that is awesome. Keep it up and thanks for the comment.

Great video! If you don’t mind sharing, I’d really appreciate knowing the other stoicism books you rotate through, since I’m a student of the subject as well.

I reread four books every year and they go in this order, Meditations (The annotated edition by Robin Waterfield), Stillness is the Key and Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F@ck by Mark Manson, not necessarily a book on stoicism however I see the links between them. I really like the way Ryan Holiday writes his books and have the rest of his collection. Once I have reread these books I will just pick another one of his books and just continue reading. I read in the morning when I wake when my head is clear and will than journal after reading. This is my process for studying the material and making it part of my life. Thank you for asking it is a subject I am passionate about, have a great weekend.

@@solitaryrpg thank you for your answer, I’m also passionate about it! Good tip on the annotated edition, been trying to find a good version of Meditations to dig in. Keep it up with the great content and thanks again!

Yeah I have been playing around with dungeon crawling. Trying out different dungeon generators. It is kinda fun just messing with it. Seeing how each method turns out. Tweaking things, mixing methods. It is part of the fun. Were they epic adventure? No. But it was a chill time spent.

Yes lots of different tools to try out and see what works. Come to think about it, collecting is just as much fun as playing. Trying new things and just see what is on the market.

Philosophy aside, your solo stuff is pretty cool, and if this helps and adds to what you bring to us here, then cool!
You mentioned what Gary Gygax wrote about solo? Could you find that and link us to that info? I'd love to read all about it.
Also, I do totally agree about stressing out on all the stuff to get you going on solo and all that you "could buy" to get going, rather than simply starting and break it down into little pieces. Thnx for that!

Thank you and the kinds words about the videos. As for the link to the article Gary Gygax wrote I can't find one. The one I have is in Best of The Dragon magazine. This is a short article that shows the support from Gygax helping people play D&D solo. You can find PDF's of the magazine on line through file sharing sites I will not link those, sorry.
